LEGO published an interesting press-release today, about a new idle simulation mobile game called LEGO Tower. Below, you can find details about the game, some images, info on availability, and an upcoming contest. Take a look, and let’s discuss. 🙂

LEGO has joined forces with NimbleBit, creators of the classic mobile game Tiny Tower to craft a brand new mobile experience. NimbleBit has a long track record of building lovable mobile worlds for their players, and both companies are excited to be taking the Tiny Tower formula to new heights inside the world of LEGO.

“Having the opportunity to build upon one of our signature games inside the world LEGO is a dream come true for us.” says David Marsh, co-founder of NimbleBit. “The building blocks of LEGO are a complete creative match for our style of games. It’s sparked a lot of the feelings of creativity and joy we’ve experienced ourselves while playing with LEGO since we were young.”

LEGO Tower gives players the ability to build and operate their own LEGO tower. Construct a wide range of apartments and businesses for your minifigure residents to live, work, and play in. Visit your friends’ towers and trade items to help them build. Collect hundreds of unique minifigure pieces and discover hidden characters. Build your dream LEGO tower to new heights, the sky’s the limit!

Speaking of building, visit LEGO Ideas on March 26th to participate in the LEGO Tower Building Challenge. Among the prizes, winners will get their creation featured in the game! The LEGO Tower mobile game will be available directly from the App Store and Google Play starting this summer.

I have never heard of NimbleBit or their Tiny Tower game before, so I looked it up. According to Wikipedia, Tiny Tower is a popular business simulation game developed by NimbleBit and released in 2011. The game tasks players with managing a tower filled with virtual people, referred to as “bitizens”, with the goal of building new floors and gradually making the tower taller, which attracts bitizens to move in and work in any floor the player designates. It appears that the LEGO Tower game will work in the same or very similar way.

What do you think? How do you like the idea of the LEGO Tower game? Did you ever play the Tiny Tower game? How do you like it? Do you think it is a good match for LEGO? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

So is this aimed at kids or adults? I’m not familiar with the original game, but it seems to be aimed at adults. Building an office is not something I would have enjoyed as a child.

It seems to be about building a house with different floors, which – when you think about it – seems an extremely natural fit for Lego…

Will this have in-game mi.cro purchases like in the original? I thought Lego doesn’t do their gaming audience is kids. Having said that, I enjoyed Tiny Tower, so will check this out when it gets released.

Not a fan of Lego connecting with video games. It defeats the purpose of creativity with Lego bricks. However, it may help builders with some ideas on how or what to build. You can do the same with a pile of bricks in front of you and a imagination.

I’m not a fan either, but hey, whatever gets people into LEGO, or makes money for the company. Being a toy company is not easy. The attention span and interest of kids are fickle and there is a lot of peer pressure too.

I don’t know what’s the point of all these Lego mobile games, but as long as they keep making good sets and don’t get distracted, they can do whatever else they want. I checked out some of the other games, and they aren’t anything special. But they are free, so for a few minutes of mindless playing they are okay.

If they bring in all the different lego titles, this could be a fun game. It seems they already have ninjago and city, but they should also do star wars, super heroes, and maybe some of the old themes too like castle, space, etc.

Super Heroes and Star Wars might be a problem, due to the requirement of buying additional licenses. Old fan favorite shoutouts might work, though…

These games are just for a few minutes of braindead relaxation while you are waiting for the bus or in between phone calls. I wouldn’t have my hopes up for anything super developed but may check it out.
