Building LEGO BrickHeadz Heroes Book

Since 2016, the LEGO BrickHeadz line has been providing LEGO fans and collectors a host of brick-built characters from the Easter Bunny to Super Heroes. The busiest year for LEGO BrickHeadz was 2018, when over fourty LEGO BrickHeadz sets were released. In 2019, the LEGO BrickHeadz collection went back to a more manageable size with only an occasional new release They are still very fun to collect and build.

Some people view the LEGO BrickHeadz sets as collectibles, similar to Funko POP characters. Others like the sets because of the interesting building techniques, colors, and printed parts, and there are also those who can’t relate to the figures at all. LEGO BrickHeadz also inspired fans to design and build their own characters, build together with their families (including making BrickHeadz characters of themselves!), and even participate in LEGO BrickHeadz building contests.

Personally, I don’t collect LEGO BrickHeadz characters, but I do have several of them just for building, customizing, and for the parts. My favorite LEGO BrickHeadz set is the #41597 LEGO BrickHeadz Go Brick Me customization kit. This set comes with over 700 parts and encourages you to build yourself, friends, family, and colleagues into BrickHeadz. The instruction booklet demonstrates how to build different hairstyles, facial features, clothing combinations, etc. which you can use as templates for your own builds. There are pieces to replicate different skin and hair colors, as well as accessories like eyeglasses and tools that you can give to your characters. The set is great for playing and building with family and friends. I wrote a full review previously, which you can read here: LEGO BrickHeadz Go Brick Me Review. Unfortunately, the LEGO BrickHeadz Go Brick Me set is no longer available directly from LEGO, but you can still get it on Amazon: LEGO GO BRICK ME ON AMAZON

Recently, I learned about a new book, titled, Building LEGO BrickHeadz Heroes – Volume One: The Unofficial Guide by Charles Pritchett. The book provides instructions for ten superhero characters turned into BrickHeadz. If you already built all the official LEGO BrickHeadz sets, played around with the LEGO BrickHeadz Go Brick Me set, and you still want even more, you may want to check out this book. Below is the official description.

LEGO BrickHeadz: they’re cute, they’re blocky, there are never enough of them! With the help of this book, you can build even more! Readers will find detailed, full-color illustrations and step-by-step instructions for the following characters: Ant-Man, Beast Boy, Daredevil, Deadpool, Green Lantern John Stewart, Gwenpool, Robin, Starfire, Thor & Wolverine! Each set of instructions includes a photo of the finished model and a list of bricks needed to build it. The creative and charming designs surprise and delight lovers of superheroes and of course, LEGO. Clear your shelves, because you’re about to have a lot more BrickHeadz to put on display!

The book is self-published with 88 pages of high quality and easy to follow instructions. It is available in paperback and digital versions, both of which are listed on Amazon: LEGO BRICKHEADZ HEROES BOOK ON AMAZON

I should also mention that Charles has another self-published book, titled, Expanding The LEGO Winter Village. It includes step-by-step building instructions for six models, including a couple of charming classic style vehicles, a sleigh, a little shop, and more. This book is also available in printed and digital version on Amazon: LEGO WINTER VILLAGE BOOK ON AMAZON. And there is another book in the works about LEGO trains, which will be published by No Starch Press.

Also, you might want to take a look at the currently available LEGO BrickHeadz sets. There are some fun sets in the collection we haven’t talked about yet. Like the recently released #40367 LEGO BrickHeadz Lady Liberty, the colorful #40348 LEGO BrickHeadz Birthday Clown, and the super cool #40354 LEGO BrickHeadz Dragon Dance Guy. You can find them at the LEGO BrickHeadz section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Do you have any of the LEGO BrickHeadz sets? And do you like to build your own BrickHeadz characters? And what do you think of the BrickHeadz book discussed here? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

I don’t so much care for brickheads, but the winter village builds are nice. Might get that book for Chrismas.

Same here. The Christmas mocs are great! I especially like the pickup.

I think at this point a lot of people are tired of Brickheadz. Lego ruined the theme by releasing way too much of them. They were everywhere. Even clearance isles couldn’t get rid of them. So, I don’t think I would buy a book to get even more Brickheadz. But the Christmas book is nice. And I’m curious about the train book.

I bought the Joker from the first wave of Brickheadz. They’re OK. I do appreciate the printed pieces, but too much of each set is just filler bricks. More than anything, I’m annoyed by the sheer volume of Brickheadz MOCs on r/LEGO. They’re all 95% exactly the same, just with a slightly different skin.
I hope they move on to another similarly sized/priced theme soon.

Good point of needed another series of small sets.

I have a Jack Sparrow BrickHead which I bought cheaply on a thrift store, although I haven’t gotten around to build him yet.

And I saw a 2020 list mentioning the theme Dots (possibly jewelry and accessories), Leaf (?) and Zebra (?). I have no idea about what the latter two themes might entail, although Zebra seems to overlap with the Disney, Marvel and Star Wars franchises…

Hm… dots sounds something maybe like Clikits? I vaguely remember hearing something about this. But I can’t remember the details.

There was a rumor about Dots earlier, but apparently they theme got cancelled, and now it seems that the release has been pushed forward to 2020.

Clikits have gotten a lot of slack, but they were meant as craft, rather than a building system, and they often work nice as ‘highlights’ on say a mech or a living room. If the price is right, and they’re System-compatible, I might consider trying out some Dots.

There also were rumors about a new Girls IP. I’d hope there would be something similar to Elves. (Hopefully Sci-Fi/ Space Opera…) But the descriptions were quite cryptical.

Hmm, this Spanish site states that Dots will be a customizable slapping bracelet that could roll up on your wrist, customizeble with Lego studs on the outward side.

In my humble opinion, it sounds extremely uninteresting if that’d be the case, but perhaps it would sell with the target group.

I was reading on Brickset that Dots was either canceled or delayed. Something about the bracelets not meeting quality standards.

Admin, it looks like they also have another book with Brickheadz villains. It’s on the same page as what you linked to.

    • admin July 25, 2019, 3:35 PM

Yes, Charles emailed me that he has a new book with BrickHeadz Villains. Perfect timing, I guess! 😀

The Christmas book looks cool. I would get that one. I agree with others that Brickheadz has been overdone. Right now people want to get rid of their Brickheadz sets not get more.

  • Sith015 July 26, 2019, 10:11 AM

Some of those brickheadz look pretty cool. The thing about brickheadz is that once you get the basic pattern down, they are super easy to build. It’s only the hair that can be a bit complicated. But the rest can be figured out just from pictures.
