LEGO Harley-Davidson Designer-Video & More!

The latest in the LEGO Creator Expert vehicles collection is the recently released #10269 LEGO Creator Expert Harley-Davidson Fat Boy. We talked about the set already in detail (see: LEGO Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Coming! and LEGO Creator Harley-Davidson Review & Fun!). The set was developed in close collaboration with Harley-Davidson, recreating many of the features and details of the real bike, like the solid-disc wheels, teardrop fuel tank, integrated speedometer, and dual exhaust pipes.

With some delay, LEGO finally released the designer-video for the set with LEGO Design Master Mike Psiaki, LEGO Senior Designer Carl Merriam, and LEGO Element Designer Mani Zamani. The three of them go into great detail about how the #10269 LEGO Creator Expert Harley-Davidson Fat Boy came about, including visiting Harley’s headquarters and working with Harley’s own designers, challenges faced while building the model, special parts created for the bike, and some very cool Easter eggs hidden in the set. Watch below.

I really enjoyed this interview. It’s great to get a glimpse into the everyday work of LEGO designers, and the way they collaborate and inspire each other. Their sharing made me like the set even more! And speaking of sharing, there is a really interesting article on the LEGO Ambassador Forum blog about members of the AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) community in China meeting up with members of the local H.O.G (Harley Owners Group) community. It’s fascinating to see how two seemingly so different hobby groups meshed together so well based on their love for customization. Check out the customized Harley trike and Harley bike with side-car built at the event! You can read the full article and see more pictures here: When AFOL Meets the H.O.G

Here is the official description of the set: Build and display your own Harley-Davidson Fat Boy motorcycle! I would love to build those alternate versions! Are there better pictures of those?

Same. I would love to have instructions for those! Both the designer video and the article about the Chinese event were insightful. Who knew China had Harley fans?

Ha-ha! The HOGs are awesome! I bet they are going to buy the set and customize it! The designer video was super interesting too. I wish I could visit them one day!

Carl is so funny, and Mike is one of my favorite builders. This is one of the best designer videos I watched. Really interesting material

So, I just got the latest shop catalog with the Harley at the front. They make it look metallic instead of just light gray. They really should have used silver parts, or best, chromed parts. Other than that, the bike is great.

I would love to watch designer videos like this on all the sets. Or at least themes. So nice to get a behind-the-scenes look at how sets come about. I also like to hear about the collaboration between different designers. Like how Mark Stafford “stole” the T. rex. 😀

Where in the world did they get the trikes? I would love one of those.
