And here is the designer-video where you can take a closer look at the new LEGO Imperial Star Destroyer with Senior Designer Henrik Andersen. He will show you some of the cool features of the set, as well as the interior structure.

The #75252 LEGO Star Wars Star Destroyer is available directly from LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop from September 18, 2019 for LEGO VIP members, and October 1 for all other builders. Prices are as follows: US $699.99 – CA $849.99 – DE €699.99 – UK £649.99 – FR €699.99 – DK 5299DKK –$1099.99 AUD (Euro pricing varies by country.) The set is listed at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO released several Star Destroyers in the past, from miniature versions all the way to Ultimate Collector Series sets. The largest have been the #10030 LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Imperial Star Destroyer (37 inches long, 3,096 pieces, original price $270) released in 2002, and the #10221 LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer (50 inches long, 3,152 pieces, original price $400) released in 2011. As you can see, the #75252 LEGO Star Wars Star Destroyer comes with significantly more pieces than the previous sets. #10030 LEGO Star Wars UCS Imperial Star Destroyer used magnets to keep the hull together, so it is going to be very interesting to see how LEGO designers handled the construction of the newer version of this massive ship.

What do you think? How do you like the new LEGO Star Wars UCS Star Destroyer? How do you think it compares to the 2002 version? Is this a set you would like to get? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

The press release doesn’t say anything about an interior. Is there an interior?

    • Håkan September 10, 2019, 4:54 AM

I believe I read somewhere that the interior mostly consisted of a Technic skeleton to rigidly maintain the shape of the enormous model.

      Alas.

It’s a nice upgrade from the previous version, but man, what’s up with the price? 4784 pieces for 700 dollars?!

43 inches long!?! That’s freaking huge! I haven’t the faintest idea where I’d put that! :O Also… I tried clicking on the video and it told me ‘this video is private’. Well, I don’t the video will be watchable at some point. Yeah, I’d love to get this model, but… bigger house to put it in, I guess. 😀

Try the video now. For some reason LEGO deleted and replaced the first upload. I just replaced it with the new one.

      • Master Builder September 5, 2019, 9:53 AM

It plays fine for me. Thank you. The video really puts it into perspective how huge this set is. I don’t even know where I would put it.

        Works now!

I wonder if this is going to have issues with sagging like the first one did. Beautiful set though. The interior structure looks amazing.

Well, Lego managed to make the Millennium Falcon look cheap. It’s a wonderful set, but with only two minifigs and not much playability, I rather have the Falcon

  • Legostuff14 September 5, 2019, 11:59 AM

” impressive ,most impressive” ( Darth Vader).
Every time I see the Imperial Star Destroyer , I keep thinking about a slice of pizza. Lol! Too expensive for me. I keep thinking about how Lego fans got the Millennium Falcon and had a difficult time finding space for it. Round two. It’s a great set and display piece, but, it’s huge.

    • admin September 6, 2019, 12:05 PM

      Ha-ha! A very boring pizza slice! 😀

      • Håkan September 6, 2019, 3:04 PM

        Il piatto grigio!

        (After some googling…)

  • Giza September 5, 2019, 4:10 PM

Wow!! This thing is massive! I would sure love to build it, but have no place to put it afterward.

With so many other ships they could make into UCS sets, this rehashing has pushed me further and further away from LEGO Star Wars. It is basically the same model, upgrades like replacing the magnets with Technic, but twice the cost. It didnt need to be rehashed. X-Wing, Y-Wing, Death Star, now the Star Destroyer. They are trying to cash in on the aftermarket prices rather than bring something new to the market.

Why not something like a UCS Landspeeder, Mon Calamari Cruiser, Medical Frigate, A-Wing, Rebel Transport, or Tie Bomber to name a few.

In short, I am not impressed. Just another money grab that I will not be adding to my collection.

I don’t know about this…….did we really need a star destroyer of this size? I mean, you can’t do anything with it besides just looking at it. At least the Falcon has play features.

    • Håkan September 5, 2019, 6:19 PM

I don’t know, play features tend to come across as pretty strained on display pieces like this, anyway.

Personally, it’s not for me, however. Too gray, too big and only two relatively uninteresting minifigs. But I’m not really the target Group, anyway…

      • Håkan September 5, 2019, 6:25 PM

And yeah, too expensive even for a UCS display piece. (The largest set I have ever bought myself is 76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle, but even that I have left in a box since I really haven’t found any good place to put it…)

  • hushpuppy September 5, 2019, 9:46 PM

It’s an impressive set, but not very practical for display. It’s too big. But I appreciate the work that went into it. The designer did a great job. By the way, the background sound on the designer video is too loud. It’s hard to hear what he’s saying.

  • Tom September 7, 2019, 10:14 AM

    I don’t get it.

Main bonus is it will enable those who missed the previous one get one should they wish but the price point is just silly.

I’m also not really sure who this is designed for. Collectors will complain at lack of minifigs and kids can’t afford it/lack of play features. Major star wars fans and afols sure but that’s going to be a minority of Lego customers.

Also any serious collector will already have the prior version….

I agree it’s a stunning model but I don’t quite get who Lego are aiming for with it…
