New LEGO Ideas Sets Designer-Videos

There are a couple of designer videos LEGO recently uploaded to their YouTube channel that I thought you would enjoy. Both videos are about newly released LEGO Ideas sets, so they are especially interesting for the adult LEGO fan community. Hearing directly from the designers gives us a glimpse into their work, the challenges they face, and the decisions they have to make. Watching the designer videos can also help with deciding on purchasing a set, which is especially useful around the holidays. So, let’s take a look at two of the latest LEGO Ideas sets.

The #21319 LEGO Ideas Central Perk project was originally submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform by French LEGO fan Aymeric Fievet (a.k.a. Mric76) back in the fall of 2016. It achieved the required 10,000 supporters two years later, and since its approval early this year, LEGO’s own designers have been working on refining the model. The set was released at the beginning of September, but it sold out almost immediately and has been completely unavailable until the end of October. For a brief couple of days, it was available again, but now it is on backorder. (This means that you can order the set, but there will be some delay in delivering.) In the video below, LEGO designers Milan and graphic designer Crystal will show you the set in detail.

Here is the official description of the set: Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Friends, the legendary American TV sitcom, with this highly collectible #21319 LEGO Ideas Central Perk set. This wonderful LEGO recreation of the café TV studio set is packed with authentic details, making it a must-have Friends memorabilia item for fans. The iconic seating area with a couch, armchair, and two chairs for the friends is removable for easy play. And check out the stage where Phoebe performed her songs on guitar (and where Ross once played his keyboard and everyone except Phoebe thought he was terrible). This LEGO Ideas set includes seven new-for-September-2019 minifigures: Ross Geller, Rachel Green, Chandler Bing, Monica Geller, Joey Tribbiani, Phoebe Buffay, and Gunther. Each character comes with accessories to role-play famously hilarious scenes. An ideal Friends-themed gift for your own friends and family who love the TV show, this set is great for play and will grab attention when displayed in any room. 1,070 pieces. Price: $59.99 – BUY HERE

The #21320 LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils set is the latest in the LEGO Ideas lineup. It was originally designed by another French LEGO fan, Jonathan Brunn (a.k.a. Mukkinn). In the video below, LEGO designer Niels Milan Pedersen, and design manager Sam Johnson will explain how the finalized set came about.

Here is the official description of the set: Learn about life on Earth millions of years ago and create a stunning centerpiece with this collectible #21320 LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils building kit for adults. This 910-piece set offers an immersive, creative building experience for natural history enthusiasts who will appreciate the authentic details of the two dinosaur skeleton models (Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops) and the pterosaur reptile (Pteranodon) skeleton model. The models are built to 1:32 scale, can be adjusted into lifelike poses, and each one comes with its own stand so they can be placed alongside the included sapiens skeleton figure for a museum-style display. To complete the set, there’s also a paleontologist minifigure with various accessories for imaginative role-play fun. All in all, this archaeology set makes a great dinosaur gift for adults to build solo or to share their passion for natural history with family and friends. 950 pieces. Price: $59.99 – BUY HERE

Both of these sets are not just excellent designs, but they also make great Christmas gifts. If you are planning to get either of them or both, I highly recommend you order them right away. The #21319 LEGO Ideas Central Perk already demonstrated that it’s extremely popular, to the point that LEGO can’t keep up with demand. As I mentioned above, it’s on backorder now, which means that you should be receiving it within 30 days. Although the #21320 LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils set was just released, I expect that it will have similarly high demand. Kids love dinosaurs, and a dinosaur LEGO set is likely on the top of their Christmas wish list. You can find both sets at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like these latest LEGO Ideas sets? Are you planning to get either of them? Or even both? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

I’m planning to get both. Great sets and they are not too expensive. They should make designer videos for every set, or at least the themes.

    I want both! 😀

The Central Perk set is awesome, but it’s so hard to get it! I hope I can order it this time.

It goes in and out of backorder, but you can still order it. There may be just some delays in delivery. Hang in there, they are making more! 🙂

Santa will bring me both, I hope. The dinos are epic, and the Friends sets is for parts.

Thanks for the videos. I love to hear from the designers. It makes me appreciate the sets more. As a dinosaur fan, I especially enjoyed the interview with Niels.

I saw someone on facebook making a whole series of dinos using the same style and scale. That could be a fantastic project with kids.

      Hm… that’s a nice idea! 😀
