Participate in LEGO Build to Give!

If you already got the 2019 LEGO Christmas Catalog, you may have noticed on the second page that LEGO is running a program for the holiday season called LEGO Build to Give. This is the second year LEGO is running the program. Last year, they were able to donate more than half a million LEGO sets to children around the world. This holiday season, the company seeks to double the donation. To achieve the goal of donating one million LEGO sets to children in need, LEGO is asking the help of their fans. All they need to do is build a holiday ornament and share it. Below are the details.

Through LEGO Build to Give, the LEGO Group wants to donate one million LEGO sets to children that find themselves in difficult and vulnerable circumstances during the holiday season. That is why the LEGO Group is encouraging fans of all ages to take part in building a fun LEGO holiday ornament. For every ornament built and displayed in a LEGO store or shared online, the LEGO Group will donate one LEGO set to a child in need within hospitals, children homes, or underserved communities.

LEGO Build to Give events are taking place around the world during November and December. Anyone can join the good cause to help spread holiday joy. LEGO fans can use LEGO bricks at a LEGO store or at home. Simply build a fun, sassy, or whacky LEGO ornament and either display it in-store, or take a picture and share it on social media or LEGO Life using the hashtag #BuildToGive.

Kathrine Kirk Muff, LEGO Group Vice President of Social Responsibility and Engagement, says: “Being able to follow up on last year’s amazing donation and even doubling our commitment is an achievement we are all very proud of. The enthusiasm from LEGO builders across the world to build beautiful and fun ornaments to help children in difficult circumstances warms our hearts. We cannot wait to see how builders of all ages will unleash their creativity again this year and help us bring LEGO play into the hands of one million children in need.”

The LEGO sets will be donated in countries where the campaign is active as well as countries where the LEGO Group has large offices or factories. For more details about our local charity partners, visit LEGO.com/BuildToGive.

The LEGO Build to Give campaign takes place November 4th to December 8th. You can participate at LEGO retail stores, LEGO certified stores, and some third party retailers. People can also participate from home using their own LEGO bricks and share a picture on social media or in LEGO Life with the hastag #BuildToGive, and their creation will be included in the grand total. LEGO employee engagement activities will also take place encouraging LEGO colleagues to build and share ornaments at events and online.

What do you think? Did you participate in the campaign last year? And are you planning to build something for this year? What are you going to build? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

So just build an ornament and post it anywhere with the hastag? We can do that!

Yes, that’s what it said. And you can also go to the lego store to build.

Do we know what kind of sets they’re donating? I assume small ones? Polybags? I’m just curious.

My understanding is that they are small sets. For a kid, even a small set or polybag is a big deal! 😀

I wonder where they distribute those one million sets? What countries/continents?

I’m not sure. Maybe they will send out another press-release with the results after the event.

This appears to be a nice program. I hope they will do a followup story on it with the kids enjoying their Lego sets.

      Yeah, that would be nice!

Is there a limit of how many one person or family can post? I’ thinking of making this a family project. It would be educational for the kids and we can do something good.

I don’t think there is a limit, so go ahead and do your project! Sounds like fun! 🙂
