LEGO Ideas International Space Station

Step into your astronaut boots with the new LEGO Ideas International Space Station! Today, the LEGO Group announced the new LEGO Ideas International Space Station, packed with authentic details as part of its 10-year celebration of the LEGO Ideas program. Realize your own dreams of becoming an astronaut with the new LEGO Ideas International Space Station, available to buy from LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop from February 1st. Details below.

LEGO fan Christoph Ruge submitted the original design for the LEGO Ideas International Space Station set after submitting other various space model entries via the LEGO Ideas platform. LEGO Ideas offers fans the opportunity to submit their own brick creations with the chance to have their concept brought to life with the help of LEGO master designers and a share of the profits. After three years, Christoph’s design was selected through the special review to celebrate the 10th anniversary year of the LEGO Ideas program that has seen amazing sets come to fans including The Flintstones, Steamboat Willie, and Friends Central Perk in the last year alone.

Hasan Jensen, Engagement Manager at the LEGO Group, said: “To celebrate 10 years of crowdsourcing and collaboration between LEGO Ideas (called LEGO CUUSOO until 2014) and LEGO fans around the world, we decided to dive into the archives of LEGO Ideas projects that had gathered 10,000 supporters but hadn’t quite made it into production. We decided that one of these great ideas should have a second chance, so we thought we would turn the LEGO Ideas process upside down. This time we started the internal review and came up with four exciting projects that we thought showed the greatest potential – and then it was up to the LEGO Ideas community to decide which of the four would be made into LEGO Ideas set number 29. It was great fun to follow the fan vote and we were excited to be able to finally welcome the International Space Station into the LEGO Ideas family.”

I like it very much especially the scale, although I’m not sure how well it looks on display next to the Apollo lander and Saturn V- probably no issue but jeez I can’t keep up there’s so many sets I would like to own, I’m running out of money and worst of all, space to display these beauties.
I need to buy a house just to display my LEGO!

Very nice set, but it looks fragile. But that’s an amazing array of printed tiles and panels!

The core is actually quite sturdy. It’s the little greebly pieces that have a tendency to fall off. And once they do fall off, you have no idea where they came from. It’s indeed a very nice set, but cleaning it would be a nightmare. 🙄

Anyone else think this is a weird item in the official description?

Yeah, I know. And there was actually more that I removed before publishing. They have been adding weird stuff like this to all the new sets. Check the online shop descriptions for the 2020 sets for some real laughs. I was actually going to bring this up in the Ambassador Forum because these descriptions are a combination of cringy, creepy, and just plain bizarre. 🙄

I noticed this too. It is a little cringe worthy. I think I saw an article about LEGO seeking out stressed out adults as a marketing ploy. Interesting.

          New Zensational Experience!

Oh, dear… we can probably make a whole list of buzzwords for depressed Millennial. 😀

        • admin January 22, 2020, 12:55 AM

Yeah, the buzzwords they are using are pretty depressing. But maybe that’s just where adults are at. Which is depressing in itself. 🙄

I like it. It looks very accurate. And I agree that those printed piecer are awesome/

  • Nofakebricks January 21, 2020, 2:37 PM

I wonder what’s the playability like with this set. Or is it only for display?

    • admin January 22, 2020, 12:53 AM

It’s pretty sturdy. Playing with it is kind of tough though. Greebly bits are all over the place. And once they fall off, you will have trouble remembering where they came from. 😀

  • Melanie January 21, 2020, 3:06 PM

This is a must have for me. But I’ll need to make space for display. I’m running out of room! I envy those who have huge LEGO display areas.

    • admin January 22, 2020, 12:56 AM

Someone was just mentioning on our Facebook page that they are planning to hang it from the ceiling. Not a bad idea. 😀

  • sammy January 22, 2020, 12:39 AM

So epic! I love all the little details. It seems that like this set is full of detailing pieces.

Ha! Very interesting! LEGO has been all over the place lately with small ventures like this. I guess they are testing to see which one sticks and becomes the next big idea.
