In case you are not a football fan, but still curious about this set, I got some information from Wikipedia for you: Old Trafford is a football stadium in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, and the home of Manchester United. With a capacity of 74,879, it is the largest club football stadium (and second largest football stadium overall after Wembley Stadium) in the United Kingdom, and the eleventh-largest in Europe. Nicknamed “The Theatre of Dreams”, Old Trafford has been United’s home ground since 1910. The stadium’s record attendance was recorded in 1939, when 76,962 spectators watched the FA Cup semi-final between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Grimsby Town. Old Trafford has hosted FA Cup semi-finals, England fixtures, matches at the 1966 World Cup and Euro 96 and the 2003 Champions League Final, as well as rugby league’s annual Super League Grand Final, and the final of two Rugby League World Cups. It also hosted football matches at the 2012 Summer Olympics, including women’s international football for the first time in its history.

The LEGO Old Trafford – Manchester United stadium appears to have a modular design, with LEGO Technic pins connecting larger chunks of the set.

Another interesting piece of information from this press-release is that it seems like LEGO is intending to release other sports stadiums under the LEGO Creator Expert line. This means that these sets will be focusing more on the building experience, architectural accuracy, and displayability of the sets rather than the play experience of the old LEGO Sports line from the late 1990s and early 2000s.

What do you think? How do you like the idea of LEGO releasing famous sports stadiums? And what do you think of the #10272 LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford – Manchester United football stadium? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

Impressive looking model there- *notices aerial photo* Hey, that’s a soccer ball on the ground! What’s up with all of this football stuff! Everyone knows a football is brown and egg shaped… LOL!

Funny, but lots of people outside the U.S (and probably plenty here!) think soccer is an American term, but there’s a high probability that the name is actually English from the name association football. American Football was originally called gridiron football using elements of association football and rugby, but the name gridiron football became shortened by fans to ‘football’ and that’s where American football got it’s name from.

And that’s now more information than anyone wanted to know! LOL!

Anyway, impressive model. Not a sports person, myself, but amazing details!

Good info. I wonder if they are also going to do American football stadiums. Soccer is not as big in the US. And if they are going with branded stadiums, they really should include some minifigs, even if they are not the right scale.

I kinda figured this would be too niche, even if the Premier League is a huge franchise and Manchester United is more or less a household name throughout the Old World and Latin America.

I doubt there’s any Gridiron arena of the same iconicity, but possibly there are some cricket (UK and many old colonies except for the USA) or baseball (North and Central America, Southeast Asia) which would be widely recognized in countries where the sports are played and watched.

I guess there could be some olympic / track and field arenas that would be fairly recognizable worldwide, though…

If they don’t make the Emirates I’m gonna be MAD. Please don’t let this be a one-and-done set…

Admin pointed out that it seems from the press release that this is going to be a series.

  • BigShawn January 13, 2020, 12:06 PM

It looks good, but I guess it’s only interesting to British soccer fans.

  • DavidH January 13, 2020, 12:35 PM

I never heard of this team before or their stadium, but the set looks very good, especially the construction of the roof. Not for me, because, again, I don’t know anything about this stadium, but the designer did a great job.

  • Peter January 13, 2020, 1:19 PM

Lego managed to make an ugly stadium look good! Not for me though, as I have no interest in this theme.

    • Peter January 13, 2020, 1:19 PM

I meant team, not theme. If they make other stadiums I might be interested.

  • Hippie-Hudson January 13, 2020, 1:30 PM

Interesting set, great design and size. I’m not a football fan but i want to build it!
I am very surprised that LEGO thinks this will sell in large volumes, it’s very niche, if they had made a generic stadium with no brand but with stickers or printed plates to switch up the home team then it might appeal to a wider audience.
Manchester United are one of the most famous uk football teams and not just in the UK. The UK premier league is huge in terms of followers outside England, the clubs have players from all over the world so it’s audience is worldwide, that being said im not sure how many Manchester United fans are also LEGO fans.

Still I want to build it

Well, to be honest, I’ve never heard of this stadium but then again I don’t like sportsball activities. I hope there is someone out there who will be interested in this sort of thing. For me this one is a pass. Other than unique pieces I have zero interest in this one

Interesting choice and it definitely looks like a nice display piece if model soccer stadiums are your thing. I must admit I’m a fan of the corner tiles. ;P Wonder if those lines on the field are printed? That seems a little much but on the other hand stickers over a field with bumps like that would also be too much. And if there really are other stadiums coming, it makes sense to print them.

  • Mexell January 13, 2020, 6:04 PM

The field is comprised of two 14×8 tile plates (one for each end) and three 6×6 tile plates down the middle, all are printed. The goal netting is also printed. I saw this being built in my LEGO Store. The 1×4 nougat color bricks with the 3 red doors are also printed (see the picture with the bus).
