LEGO Trolls World Tour Sets Overview

A brand new theme that LEGO released at the beginning of the year, is related to the Trolls World Tour film that will be released in April. There are seven sets in the collection featuring super colorful characters and scenes from the movie. Even if you don’t care for the film, the sets are worth checking out just for the unusual pieces. We will walk through each of the sets, and I also included video-reviews at the end, so you can see them in more detail.

The first Trolls film based on the cute and scary dolls was released back in 2016 by DreamWorks Animation. The film followed two trolls who go on a quest, to save their village from destruction by the Bergens, creatures who eat Trolls to be happy. The film was very popular and turned out to be great commercial success. Based on the trailer, Trolls World Tour could be fun as well.

As far as the LEGO sets, they all have some really nice new pieces and pretty dope colors. As the movie is not yet released we don’t know all the details, but we can gather some basics from the set designs and descriptions.

The #41250 LEGO Trolls Techno Reef Dance Party features a DJ booth and a stage with a heart-shaped background that allows the mermaid and her octopus pal to spin. You really have to look over this set to notice all the unusual pieces and colors. For example, take a look at that felt heart in the center of the stage. 173 pieces. Price: $19.99 – Available at the LEGO Trolls section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #41251 LEGO Trolls Poppy’s Pod features one of the cutest characters, Poppy, pod-shaped house, which is a special piece. Note that this is a LEGO Juniors (4+) set, so all the decoration are printed instead of stickered. Also notice more felt pieces, and those brand new musical notes! 103 pieces. Price: $19.99 – Available at the LEGO Trolls section of the Online LEGO Shop.

We find more specialized pieces in the #41252 LEGO Trolls Poppy’s Hot Air Balloon Adventure set, but I think they are quite useful. The air balloon could even be added to LEGO City or LEGO Friends sets. The decoration on the balloon is printed. The set includes three Trolls, plus Mr. Dinkles. 250 pieces. Price: $29.99 – Available at the LEGO Trolls section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #41253 LEGO Trolls Lonesome Flats Raft Adventure features a floatable raft, stage, and jail. This is another LEGO Juniors set, so all the decorations are printed. And we get more musical notes! 159 pieces. Price: $29.99 – Available at the LEGO Trolls section of the Online LEGO Shop.

In the #41254 LEGO Trolls Volcano Rock City Concert set we get a large stage with tons of colorful accessories and three minifigs, including Barb, who is exclusive to this set. 387 pieces. Price: $39.99 – Available at the LEGO Trolls section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #41256 LEGO Trolls Rainbow Caterbus set features the Trolls World Tour bus in all of its rainbow-colored glory. There are lots of unique pieces and colors to notice, here, but I think my favorite part is Poppy’s suitcase (and of course, the musical notes). Includes Poppy and Cooper, plus four brick-built characters; Cloud Guy and his three cloud babies. 395 pieces. Price: $39.99 – Available at the LEGO Trolls section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The largest of the LEGO Trolls sets is the #41255 LEGO Trolls Pop Village Celebration. It features a tree house with two more of the specialized pod pieces in exclusive colors. One of them is for the glitter-tastic exclusive characters Guy Diamond and Tiny Diamond, and the other one is for Cooper. And yes, there is space to add Poppy’s pod too! It’s worth noting that the pods are sturdy enough to doubly for storage and transportation of the pieces and characters. 380 pieces. Price: $49.99 – Available at the LEGO Trolls section of the Online LEGO Shop.

It’s clear that the LEGO Trolls sets are targeting kids who are fans of the movies and characters. However, older LEGO fans may also want to take note of the tons of unique pieces and colors. It’s worth looking through the pictures to see what pieces you may find useful for your own building. And some of those characters are irresistibly cute too! I’m also including a series of video-reviews below, so you can see the sets in more detail.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Trolls sets? Did you get any of them already? Do you have any favorites? Feel free to share your thoughts and own reviews in the comment section below!

Hmmm, apparently the rainbow look on Rainbow Caterbus is largely achieved through stickers. It gives off a rather cheapish look when the main design requires stickers like that (unlike stickers used for details and highlights as is commonly applied).

I just noticed that! Not cool, lego, not cool.

By the way, don’t mix up the caterbus with the catbus! Or the Totoros would sigh at you…

The only sets I have some mild interest in is the tree and the extra pod. I wish they would bring back elves. It had the same type of fantasy elements, but they looked more beautiful and less crazy. I will get the musical notes on bricklink.

Yes! We need the Elves back! We need strong female mini-dolls. Female Ninjago would be good too.

I wish this review had gone into more detail about the exclusive pieces were. That would be my only reason for possibly buying these. I have no interest in the trolls themselves. The music notes seem interesting but I’m trying to think of a practical way to use them and coming up empty.

The music noes could be used for a music shop, or in mosaics, or even to write music on a brick built music sheet. I want lots of those! The ukulele is good too, but the color is weird. And I like Poppy’s skirt. I never liked the cloth skirt pieces, so it’s a good alternative for normal minifigs and short-legged figs.

Yeah, Elves was one of the better in-house themes of the last years, A shame it had to go so soon. Hopefully something similar might turn up again in the near future…

What’s the purpose of the felt pieces?

    • Håkan February 26, 2020, 6:02 PM

Might be some Trolls shtick to call back to their past or something, I believe the Mega Bloks Trolls sets contained a lot of felt, as well…

Kinda like that large nougat boat but in general this theme is too out there for me. Which is totally cool because there are already way too many sets I want this year. 😉

This is like Angry Birds for me. I have no interest in the theme but will pick up some of the interesting pieces when the sets go on clearance, or available on bricklink.

My kids love the Trolls movies and these sets. I guess they are the perfect age group. They want to collect all the trolls. Their favorite sets are the hot air balloon and the bus.

Trolls are not really an interest to me, but some of the accessories are awesome. I have to admit though, that the minifigs turned out better than I thought they would.
