LEGO Harry Potter Minifigs & Diagon Alley Coming!

A couple of days ago, LEGO revealed the upcoming #71028 LEGO Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures Series 2 characters. As usual, each mystery bag contains one of sixteen different characters from the Harry Potter series. Details below.

The sixteen characters in Series 2 of the LEGO Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures area as follows: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Fred Weasley, George Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Moaning Myrtle, Griphook, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Professor Sprout, Neville Longbottom, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Bellatrix Lestrange, Lily Potter, and James Potter.

Even for non-Harry Potter fans, Harry Potter minifigs are always awesome as they include a large selection of unique and very useful facial features, clothing, hairpieces, and lots of great accessories. This series in particular is full of pieces that can be used in a wide variety of applications. LEGO Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures Series 2 will be available on September 1st, for $4.99 each. They are already listed at the LEGO Harry Potter section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Another big news for LEGO Harry Potter fans is that LEGO is the upcoming #75978 LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley set, which also should be available in September. You might remember that back in 2011, LEGO released the large and highly detailed #10217 LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley set with 2,025 pieces. It featured three main buildings from Diagon Alley; Ollivander’s, Borgin and Burke’s, and Gringott’s Bank. (See the older set below.)

While the set was very impressive at its time, we are now getting something even better! The upcoming #75978 LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley set will come with 5,544 pieces, and feature the following seven locations: Ollivanders Wand Shop, Flourish & Blotts, Scribbulus Writing Implements, Quality Quidditch Supplies, Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor, The Daily Prophet, and Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. In addition, the set also includes fourteen minifigs. As the set is scheduled for release in September, we should be getting an official press-release soon with images and other details. This set is expected to be epic in both size and detail!

Also, remember that there are a bunch of other LEGO Harry Potter sets coming soon to North America that have been released in other countries already, like the #75966 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Room of Requirements, the #75967 LEGO Harry Potter Forbidden Forest: Umbridge’s Encounter, the #75968 LEGO Harry Potter 4 Privet Drive, the #75969 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Astronomy Tower, the #75979 LEGO Harry Potter Hedwig buildable figure, and the #75980 LEGO Harry Potter Attack on the Burrow. They are already listed at the LEGO Harry Potter section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Good news, the sets that have been delayed, are now showing as available on August 24th! I just wanted to give you guys the heads up. I bet Diagon Alley is going to be amazing to turn into modulars.

Yes, I saw that too. It’s a good idea they didn’t wait until September, where the site will be flooded with new orders.

Where are you seeing the 08/24 date? Checked lego site and it still shows “Coming soon” for me. 🙁

Which set are you looking for? There are still some that’s coming soon, but the majority are coming on September 24th.

I love the new pompom hats! And the new glasses and the phoenix! But $5 a pop? Why are they so expensive?

    • Thita (admin) August 20, 2020, 12:43 PM

The Collectible Minifigs have been $5 each for a while now. I agree it’s expensive. Especially when you can’t tell what’s inside the packets. 🙁

I’m only interested in this series bc of the beer glasses and martini glass

    • Thita (admin) August 25, 2020, 3:22 PM

Haha! Those were my favorites too! Minifigs do drink after all! 🙄

Ok , I’m throwing caution to the wind and I’m saving for the Diagon Alley set. If it’s true that this set is coming out in September. Then it’s a go. I hope we hear more about it soon .we are only less than two weeks away to turn into the month of September. Some more information would be appreciated thank you.😁

  • Dave August 20, 2020, 1:23 PM

Any guesses on how much it will be? $300? $400?

    • Dave August 20, 2020, 1:24 PM

Edit to add: I meant this one: #75978 LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley

      • MagickChicken August 20, 2020, 2:46 PM

At that piece count and the IP charge I’d guess $500.

  • Ian August 20, 2020, 1:50 PM

I saw pictures of Diagon Alley on facebook, and it’s huge! It’s not like the modulars though as the buildings have open backs. But if someone wants to turn them into modulars, I don’t think it would be that hard.

    • Pepper August 20, 2020, 9:54 PM

I saw the pictures too! They were kind of blurry, but I could make out the seven shops, and the minifigs. Unfortunately, the back was even more blurry, so I couldn’t make out the interiors.

So, the question I need to ask myself ( with maybe some outside input) is whether or not it’ll be worth spending $500 and skipping the next Harry Potter sets that are coming out. I mean $500 is a lot of money and I can get half of the set for half the money. Let alone this diagon alley set does not have Gringotts Bank. If it is $500 it’s probably going to be a hard no for me. I just don’t have that kind of money.🤔 I mean does anybody. With the pandemic and job losses. I find it interesting that Lego can put out expensive sets and yet somehow they have been making sales. Lego should count themselves lucky. Some businesses aren’t so lucky sadly.

    • Thita (admin) August 21, 2020, 4:47 PM

I’m very curious about LEGO’s next financial report. It’s hard to tell where things are at. They have been releasing some huge and popular sets that were probably scheduled a long time ago. But they are really struggling keeping them in stock. At least in North America. It seems that there is a lot of buzz, which could indicate a lot of demand, but if they don’t have any of the sets in stock, they aren’t going to make money. And yes, businesses, families, individuals, and whole countries are suffering. LEGO is an outlet that people use to escape the harsh realities of everyday life. But we can enjoy LEGO without spending an entire mortgage payment on new sets. We can always focus on creativity and building with what we already have. Still, the new sets are tempting…

I’m so excited for Diagon Alley! I think it’s going to be epic! And the minifigs are great too. I plan to get them all.

  • Håkan August 21, 2020, 7:24 AM

Hmm, decent amount of parts here that would be useful in a generic city or fantasy setting. I might possibly Bricklink some parts later…

  • E.Lephant August 21, 2020, 9:51 AM

Where do you guys see pictures of Diagon Alley?

    • brickmaster August 21, 2020, 9:57 AM

They were originally posted on instagram and facebook, but I recommend checking youtube because they seem to have better quality pictures, and they also explain what you see.

I just spent the day building a moc of the herbology classroom. I made interesting plants. It was fun. One plant has foliage around it with some flowers and in the middle a thorn is sticking out . I made 2 of those. Then I made a weird plant thats kind of tall with some leaves around it and it has an eye in the middle of it. I have one of those. Then just the basic floral arrangements. Again lots of fun to make. So, I have been creating on my own because I probably will not have enough money to get all of the harry potter sets. I’m not a big fan of the astronomy Tower set that’s coming. Partly because the herbology department is so small just a little Greenhouse. I’ve managed to make both classroom and a greenhouse combined. So, creating things on my own have been one of the big things I’ve been doing at this weird time.

    • Thita (admin) August 22, 2020, 8:02 PM

That sounds awesome! Creating plants and foliage is one of my favorite things to work on. It’s so satisfying when you get something right! 🙂
