LEGO Iron Man Wall Art Designer-Video

The four LEGO Wall Art pieces that we talked about in Collectible Wall Art Building Kits for Adults press-release are now available in most countries except for the US (where only the LEGO Marvel Studios Iron Man is available and the rest will be released on September 1st). The series features mosaics of Marvel and Star Wars characters and famous celebrities. From the four sets, the LEGO Marvel Studios Iron Man is available exclusively from official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop, while the other three sets are also sold by retailers.

Although we already talked about the sets in detail at the link above, a few days ago, LEGO released the designer-video for one of the four sets. In the video below, you can join LEGO Designer Chris Stamp as he shows off the brand new Marvel Studios Iron Man from LEGO Art. Enjoy!

The new 16×16 stud LEGO Technic frame is going to be excellent for supporting large builds even outside of mosaics, and the new LEGO Technic hanger piece is going to be great for hanging up LEGO creations. I’m looking forward to try out these sets. The only negative is that we’re kind of forced to get multiple copies to build all the available alternate builds! Here is the official description of the set:

If you’re a superhero fan, we have a thrilling set for you. Build one of three portraits of the iconic Iron Man suits of armor with the #31199 LEGO Art Marvel Studios Iron Man set, while you relish a creative escape from everyday life. Build one of three detailed portraits of Iron Man’s armor, the MARK III, the HULKBUSTER MARK I or the MARK LXXXV. If you want more, buy and combine three sets into an ultimate Iron Man piece. The coffee-table-quality instructions guide you through the project, starting with a deep dive into Iron Man before you begin building. As part of this new LEGO building experience, you can also listen to the included soundtrack for stories and cool details about the set as you build. Finish the project with a Marvel Studios signature plate, and then display it on a wall or shelf.

You don’t need to be an artist or have loads of LEGO models to enjoy the satisfaction of completing this wall art kit. This LEGO Art set is part of a collection of building kits focused on music, art, design and architecture, which make great gifts for anyone (including yourself) seeking a new project. Set your creative side free with this 3,156-piece LEGO set that includes nine canvas wall décor plates, a Marvel Studios signature plate, brick-built LEGO frame, new hanging element and piece separator for easy rebuilding. This 3-in-1 LEGO Art set measures over 15.5” (40cm) square.

Besides the #31199 LEGO Art Marvel Studios Iron Man – 3-in-1 Collectible Wall Art Building Kit, there are three more sets in the collection, each with alternate builds and combined builds. The sets are as follows: #31197 LEGO Art Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe – 4-in-1 Collectible Wall Art Building Kit, #31198 LEGO Art The Beatles – 4-in-1 Collectible Wall Art Building Kit, and #31200 LEGO Art Star Wars The Sith – 3-in-1 Collectible Wall Art Building Kit. If you’re outside the US, you can already purchase them all, or if you’re in the US, you can at least look at pictures at the LEGO Art section of the Online LEGO Shop.

These new wall art sets are the second 2D tile creative concept to be announced by the LEGO Group this year, following the launch of LEGO DOTS, a new theme that offers children a new way to express themselves inspired by arts and crafts. You can find them at the LEGO DOTS section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Art sets? Which one is your favorite? Are you planning to get any of them? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

Oh, wait, I just noticed that some are tiled and some use round plates? Why?

I read an interview with the designers and they said it’s because they felt tiles or plates matched the subject better. Iron Man and Star Wars have plates, and the other two have tiles. Maybe tiles work better for real faces?

I love how many new tiles and plates in new colors added to the catalog! And I like the idea of those 16×16 Technic frames, I always struggled with framing mosaics and attaching them to the wall. This makes it so much easier.

I’m debating which one to get. I’m planning to build my own mosaic, so I only care for the pices? Which one has the best combination of colors for a variety of mosaics? Which would work the best?

The most diverse color one if def the Merilyn Monroe.

I guess you should first start thinking about which colors you’d find most useful…
