LEGO Christmas Shopping Guide – Small Sets & Gifts

There is a lot of focus on the largest and most impressive LEGO sets leading up to Christmas, however, there are also many small sets that would make perfect holiday gifts and stocking stuffers. Today, we will take a look at some of the smallest and least expensive LEGO sets and other LEGO products you might consider this holiday season.

CHRISTMAS-THEMED LEGO SETS: LEGO releases a number of Christmas-themed sets each year. This includes small Christmas tree decorations and stocking stuffers (keychains, small gift items, etc.) in the $5-$10 range, LEGO Advent Calendars with fun little builds for each day counting down to Christmas, and one new addition per year for the LEGO Winter Village collection. Unfortunately, some of them are already out of stock, but others are still available at either local LEGO stores, LEGO retailers, or the LEGO seasonal items section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO DOTS SETS & BRACELETS: LEGO DOTS is a new collection that was introduced at the beginning of the year and is already very popular. The sets are perfect for those who like art and craft projects, building mosaics, and decorating with cute shapes and pretty colors. All the home-decor type sets (pencil holder, desk organizer, picture frame, jewelry box, jewelry stand) and customizable bracelets are interactive, fun, inexpensive, and could be enjoyed by families with children of all ages. You can find them at the LEGO DOTS section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO FRIENDS PLAY CUBES: Another collection that is inexpensive and would make excellent gifts for those who like the LEGO Friends theme is the LEGO Friends Play Cubes series. We talked about these sets before (see: 2020 LEGO Friends Play Cubes Review), but to recap, each of these small sets includes a LEGO Friends mini-doll, and a good selection of accessories, including some cute animals. The cubes can be used to store the characters and accessories, or other favorite LEGO items. Unfortunately, they are sold out at the LEGO Friends section of the Online LEGO Shop, but you can still find them at LEGO retailers.

LEGO DISNEY STORYBOOK ADVENTURES: This is another new collection that was introduced this year, featuring four sets. Each of the sets is shaped like a book, with a buildable scene inside and some adorable micro mini-dolls. You can read a full review of the four sets here: LEGO Disney Storybook Collection Review. They are $20 each and available at the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO XTRA ACCESSORY PACKS: The sets in this theme are most suitable for boosting an already existing LEGO collection. As the name implies, it features add-ons with extra accessories that LEGO fans would find useful. Most of the sets are small and inexpensive and you can purchase multiplies of them to use as stocking stuffers. They are available at the LEGO Xtra section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO BRICK SKETCHES: This is yet another new theme with four sets. They are basically small mosaics that can be built and displayed, and also used as a template for similar builds. Two of them are Star Wars themed (BB-8 and First Order Storm Trooper), and two are Super Heroes themed with Batman and The Joker. They are $17 each and can be found at the LEGO Batman and LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO COLLECTIBLE MINIFIGURES: Minifigures are always popular and appreciated as gifts and stocking stuffers. They are $5 each and come with one minifigure and various accessories. Currently, there is a full selection of minifigs for LEGO Harry Potter fans, LEGO DC Super Heroes fans, as well as a series of random characters. They are available at the LEGO Minifigures section of the Online LEGO Shop.

SMALL LEGO CITY & LEGO CREATOR SETS: Some of the small LEGO City and LEGO Creator sets also make suitable gifts. Small LEGO City sets usually come with a small vehicle and a couple of minifigs, and LEGO Creator sets come with alternate building instructions for 2-3 different models. They can be found at the LEGO City and LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO CLASSIC BRICK BOXES: This is another theme that is excellent for boosting the collection of a LEGO fan, or starting out a new collection with basic shapes and a rainbow of colors. There is no such thing as too many basic LEGO bricks! You can find the sets in a number of different sizes and prices at the LEGO Classic section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO SPEED CHAMPIONS: LEGO Speed Champions is a fantastic collection for car fans with minifig-scale version of real vehicles (mostly racecars.) Sets with individual cars (and a driver) are $15 each, and there are also larger sets with more vehicles and various add-ons. You can find them at the LEGO Speed Champions section of the Online LEGO Shop.

SMALL LEGO STAR WARS SETS: There are several small sets for LEGO Star Wars fans. The LEGO Star Wars micro-fighter series and the LEGO Star Wars Battle Packs are great for both play and display and only costs $10-$15 each. They are available at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO KEYCHAINS: We briefly mentioned keychains under the Christmas-themed sets, but there are key chains for practically every LEGO theme. Most of them feature cute minifigs, mini dolls, or LEGO bricks with a securely attached key ring. They make great little gifts for any LEGO fan. The regular price for these is $6, but you can often find them on sale at the LEGO keychains section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO STORAGE & DISPLAY: Another popular gift item that’s always appreciated by LEGO fans is various storage and display solutions. The LEGO storage bricks and drawers now come in many different colors, sizes, and configurations. They are available at various retailers and at the LEGO storage section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO LEVI’S CLOTHING: Something else you might consider during the holiday is LEGO-branded clothing. LEGO recently teamed up with Levi’s for a full range of LEGO clothing for both adults and children. They are available at Levi’s stores and the LEGO Levi’s section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO BOOKS: Books are also very popular with LEGO fans. Some of them are educational books on LEGO’s history, some are picture books featuring various LEGO themes, and some are books with instructions for custom LEGO projects. We talked about many of these in the past (see the LEGO Books & Magazines section). Although some of them are available at the Online LEGO Shop, the largest selection is found via Amazon: LEGO BOOKS ON AMAZON

If you’re planning to purchase LEGO sets and other related products for the LEGO fans in your life, keep in mind that there is no such thing as a bad LEGO gift. Even if you end up getting them something they already have, or it’s not something from their favorite theme, they can still use the parts for their own creations.

What do you think? How do you like the small LEGO sets we discussed today? Are you planning to get any of them yourself or as gifts for others? Do you recommend any other small sets we didn’t mention? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

The black Friday/cyber Monday sale has been a bit of a disappointment this year. I suppose it’s to be expected with the serious supply constraints, but it’s a bit frustrating nonetheless… I snagged the discounted VIP voucher this morning, but at the moment I’m not even sure there’s anything I want to spend it on that’s actually in stock.

    Stay safe everyone!

Guys, the Brick Sketches are 20% off right now. You might want to get them.

  • Henry November 30, 2020, 1:05 PM

There is also an offer for winning one million VIP points. 😀

    • Håkan November 30, 2020, 1:27 PM

Yeah, for four days in a row. I’ve entered about once daily, although I guess the chances of winning would still be miniscule. I’ve got a 50 SEK discount for 50% off, anyway…

What???! For that much you could buy the whole online shop and more! 😀

      • Mike December 1, 2020, 5:35 PM

Not really, a million points only equates to about $7600 of value. I’m sure the store has more than that.

        • Mike December 1, 2020, 5:37 PM

          Sorry, approx $7700(7692).

    • Ian November 30, 2020, 3:20 PM

      How do you do that?

      • Håkan November 30, 2020, 6:43 PM

I guess USA is still some hours behind Europe, here in Sweden it’s too late by now, but during The “Black Friday Weekend”, as a registered VIP member, every day November 27-30 you could redeem a sweepstake ticket once online without paying any VIP points.

      • j.j. November 30, 2020, 7:12 PM

Go to the vip site and you will see it there as one of the rewards. It costs nothing to enter the sweepstakes. 1 million points is worth $7692 if my math is right.

Small polybags are also great stocking stuffers. I like them even as an afol and would be happy to receive them as gifts.

    • Håkan November 30, 2020, 6:44 PM

Yeah, often they’re cute little builds involved…

  • The Other Mark November 30, 2020, 8:45 PM

Thanks for the guide. I forgot about the Disney books and the brick sketches. Those will make great gifts.

I wish we could buy the ice skating rink separately. We would love to add it to our winter village, but we have nothing else we need right now.
