LEGO Friends Central Perk Keychains Now Available

The #21319 LEGO Ideas Central Perk set has very popular with the fans of the TV show. If you don’t have it already, you can read our review here: LEGO Ideas Central Perk Set Review. But to recap, it’s an excellent set that faithfully recreates the setting and characters of the popular sitcom. In addition, the set is also fairly priced and quite affordable if you are just looking for useful minifigs, parts, accessories. I especially like the minifigs, as they have exclusive clothing that works for general city folks. You can still purchase the set at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Recently, LEGO also released six of the seven minifigs from the set as individual keychains; Ross Geller, Chandler Bing, Joey Tribbiani, Rachel Green, Monica Geller, and Phoebe Buffay. (The only character missing is Central Perk’s manager, Gunther.)

Each of the keychains features on one of the characters in minifig form, attached to a durable metal ring and chain. (Please note that the minifigure is permanently fixed to the metal chain and not meant to be removed.) The metal ring can be attached easily and securely to keys, backpacks and more. The entire key chains with the minifig measures over 3 in. (9 cm) long.

These keychains would make a terrific little gift for Friends fans young or old, including owners of the #21319 LEGO Ideas Central Perk set. The price for the keychains is the standard $5.99 per pack, and you can find them at the keychains section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Friends TV show? Do you have the LEGO Ideas Central Perk set? How do you like it? And what do you think of these keychains? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

Ha, I know someone who would appreciate this!

Like Jeff, said, I know several people who would want these. I suppose I could get them as gifts. Nice!

I might get all of these. Some as gifts some for myself. A good way to soften the boss. 😀

I like to use these minifigs as regular city people. Their outfits are great!

Earlier, there used to be ways to unscrew the keychain and use the minifig parts as regular, but I think they’re glued now, or that the design has changed. I guess you can still get rid of the chain with metal files or saws, though, and then hide the hole with plastic putty and/ or acrylic paint.

(Although I’m not sure on what the regular Friends minifigs would go for on eBay or Bricklink…)

It’s not really a screw. It’s more like a pin with ridges. I normally just cut them off with plyers, and then change the headgear to one without a hole. You can’t tell the difference.

So you’re able to disassemble the minifig after that?

          • j.j. February 18, 2021, 10:38 PM

No. The majority of the pin is still inside, so you won’t be able to fully disassemble the minifig, but if you change the hair you can’t tell the difference from a normal minifig.

There is a way to remove the pin by heating it, but I don’t think it’s worth it because there is a chance you will melt more plastic than you want to. Don’t ask how I know. 🙁

I used to do the heating method myself with a soldering iron, but I agree, it’s easier to just cut the top of the pin. It requires less skill and experience. Learning how to get the pin just the right temperature, and then pull the heated pin out straight without touching too much plastic takes time. You could end up ruining several figures before you get it right.

Some people leave it at that, and paint the metal the same color as the hair/helmet. This works well when the headgear is rare and would be hard to replace. But if the keychain minifig has a common hair/helmet, you can go a step further. Once the top of the pin is removed, the hair is easy to take off, then you can cut off a bit more from the pin to make it level with the top of the head, and then use a normal hairpiece to hide the hole. Sometimes the head can be removed too without too much trouble, but it’s really not necessary (unless you don’t like the facial features).

Lego keychains are great, but they should be kept separate from actual keys. They work better on bags and az zipper pulls. The keys wear down the plastic too fast.

What?! I love my completely worn down and almost unrecognizable Boba Fett keychain! All that wear and tear gives him character. I pretend he was chewed up and spit out from the Sarlacc pit. 😀
