2021-2022 LEGO Classic Castle Sets Overview

Fans of the LEGO Classic Castle collection can rejoice this year due to all the recently released and upcoming sets related to their favorite theme. The lovely #21325 LEGO Ideas Medieval Blacksmith and the impressive #31120 LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Medieval Castle were released last year.

This year, we are getting the massive #10305 LEGO Icons Lion Knights Castle celebrating the 90th anniversary of the LEGO Group, as well as the #31132 LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent. Both of these new sets will be available in August. Below, I’m including video-reviews of all four sets, so we can discuss them all in one place.

We already discussed the #21325 LEGO Ideas Medieval Blacksmith in detail (see links at the end of this post), but to recap, this 2,164-piece set recreates in great detail a typical building from the Middle Ages. The roof and top two levels lift off for easy viewing of the fully furnished bedroom and kitchen, plus a workshop packed with items you’d have seen in a real medieval blacksmith shop. Other features include a glowing forge with a light-brick, plus a garden with buildable models of an apple tree and a well. The four minifigs are a blacksmith, an archer, and two Black Falcon Knights. Price $149.99 – Available at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Although the #31120 LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Medieval Castle is recommended for kids ages 9 and up, the design is so nice that many adult LEGO fans enjoy it too. The castle comes with an opening gate, water mill, prison, king’s room, three minifigures, a brick-built dragon, and more. The two alternate builds are a castle tower with a catapult and a marketplace with a water mill, tower, and prison. You can even purchase three copies of the set to combine all three alternate builds for a massive layout. This set comes with 1,426 pieces and the price is $99.99. Available at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

We talked about the #10305 LEGO Icons Lion Knights Castle extensively as it was made specifically for adult LEGO fans that grew up with the original LEGO Classic Castle theme. The set incorporates many elements of the early LEGO Castle era, along with updated versions of the minifigures. Features include hidden passages, movable walls, secret hideouts, a medieval drawbridge and portcullis that open, a mill with a turning waterwheel, towers and turrets, living quarters, an armory, and more, as well as 22 minifigures! This set comes with 4,514 pieces and the price is $399.99. It will be available starting on August 8th at the LEGO Icons section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #31132 LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent brings back Vikings! This 1,192-piece set will be available from August 1st, and includes a traditional Viking ship adorned with shields, a ballista stud shooter, a brick-built sail, and a posable brick-built sea serpent. The alternate builds are a Viking house with a dragon, and a brick-built cow or a Fenris wolf next to a tree with hidden jewels. The set also comes with four Viking minifigs. The price is $119.99 and the set is available at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

And it’s also worth mentioning the limited-release #910001 LEGO Castle in the Forest set that was released via the BrickLink Designer Program. We discussed this set in detail here: Brick Breakdown: LEGO BrickLink – Castle in the Forest

A smaller castle-related set is the #40567 LEGO Icons Forest Hideout, which was available last month free with purchases of $150 or more at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop. It brings back the LEGO Classic Castle Forestment theme, including a black tree!

It’s really exciting to see so many Classic Castle-themed sets at the same time! What do you think? Are you excited for the new sets? Which one is your favorite? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

Hmm, many impressive sets, but personal economical, spatial and temporal issues would prevent me from getting too many of them. Perhaps I’ll be able to snag some of the printed parts separately…

I have two 3-in-1 medieval castle sets. ( one to make the first build on the box. Second one to make the wizards tower). I also have the medieval blacksmith set. To add on my collection the medieval market village, most of the castle theme ( as well as my favorite the dwarf mine set). So, trolls, dwarves and wizards oh my. So, if I miss getting the lion castle, I’m not going to cry about it. ( much). Other castle like sets I have the Hobbit ,the Lord of the rings and Hogwarts. 😁

One more important theme i forgot to mention. The kingdom theme of which i have the complete theme. Including the jousting set. So. I’ll save my money on the lion castle set but, i do want the Viking ship. My other Vikings have turned in to dwarves. Had to build my dwarf army. 🤔

Or “dvergar”, to remember their Norse roots. Who needs separate leg movement, anyway?
