LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse Coming Soon!

The LEGO Group has revealed a bright new set, the #21335 LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse. The latest LEGO Ideas set is a fan-inspired design, towering in height at 50cm tall – and is a unique way to add a new display piece to your home as it comes complete with a motorized light.

Full of details, the 2,065-piece set is designed authentically to mirror how a real lighthouse operates. It sits on its own island, with a staircase leading up to the lightkeeper’s cottage, plus two minifigures, and their boat also add detail to the display.

The #21335 LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse is based on an idea shared by 20-year old, Canadian LEGO fan, Sandro Quattrini. Sandro submitted his original concept on the LEGO Ideas platform, where it reached 10,000 votes from fellow LEGO fans. The concept was then commissioned by the LEGO Group to be made into a real set. Sandro, who is currently studying animation, was inspired to design the lighthouse by a childhood trip.

“My mother loves lighthouses, and she has been telling me to build one for years,” said Sandro talking about the design. “We once took a trip around the Gaspé Peninsula, a region of the province of Quebec, which is host to lighthouses of all shapes and sizes. We visited enormous stone lighthouses on rocky beaches and small, abandoned wooden lighthouses hidden behind the trees. I guess these structures have always been in some corner of my mind since that trip many years ago and for this project, I wanted to capture that towering essence of tall lighthouses, while also keeping with their solitary nature.”

Key functions and features of the LEGO Ideas Lighthouse include:

  • Lighthouse model features a revolving lens powered by an electric motor
  • Model features LEGO Powered Up components: battery box, motor, and LED light with cable
  • Next to the lighthouse, there is a small cabin in which the lighthouse keeper lives
  • Both lighthouse and cabin can be opened up to observe the interior.
  • Lighthouse measures over 21.5 in. (54 cm) high, 10 in. (25 cm) wide, and 10 in. (25 cm) deep

Talking about the design and why it was selected, Global Marketing Vice President, Federico Begher, said, “Sandro’s design really evokes the solitary role of the lighthouse and the motorized light adds a beautiful dimension to the set. I love the attention to detail with the lightkeeper’s cottage and the boat. It’s a really exciting and challenging build that creates a fantastic display piece.”

The #21335 LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse set is going to be available from the 1st of September via official LEGO Stores and the Online LEGO Shop. Prices are as follows: $299.99 / €299.99. For more information on the set, visit the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

It’s cool and all, but I don’t get it. How is this motorized? It seems like it just has a light brick.

Nice set. Like a model kit. Too expensive though.

It looks pretty, but seems strangely expensive for its parts, especially for a non-IP Ideas set. But then, I guess a lot of that is for the new lighting/motor system (hard to tell how new, it would be weird if it didn’t integrate with Powered Up but I’m not seeing those connections). Still, that’s nearly a full $100 extra, which seems excessive unless the system is going to be unique to this set (which in itself would seem excessive…). Looking forward to seeing some reviews to explain what’s so special about it.

I like lighthouses, but honestly, I prefer the smaller city ones. This one is too big and gloomy. And I don’t like the rock work. And that price! OMG!

I feel that the tower part is a little too plain. They could have added a bit of weathering or vegetation o make it more interesting. I don’t dislike it, I just don’t like it to the tune of 300 bucks.

I’m not so fond of the rockwork. Too blocky. But the rest is great. I jsut watched a review video and I like how they did the light. Some people say it’s too dim, but it seemed fine to me.
