LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons Contest & Set!

Here is something interesting for LEGO fans! A LEGO Dungeons & Dragons contest to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the popular fantasy tabletop role-playing game! And excitingly, all designs that reach the Fan Vote phase, will be eligible to become an official LEGO Ideas set! This submission invitation runs a bit differently than typical LEGO Ideas submissions, so please pay extra attention to the Fine Print and the D&D Content Terms that you can find on the contest page.

For this contest, you can create your ultimate builds, based on your favorite storylines, monsters, characters, heroes, and locations from the game. This could mean a detailed display model of your favorite character or monster, a functional display model for players/Dungeon Masters, or an ultimate build with customizable elements – all rooted in the D&D world.

A panel of judges consisting of members from the LEGO Ideas team, and the Wizards of the Coast team, will choose designs from the pool of submissions for the Fan Vote. Unlike typical LEGO product idea submissions, the Fan Vote phase for this promotion is intended to help the judges gauge fan interest in specific designs, and validate fan excitement for the theme. The judges will ultimately choose which model from the Fan Vote phase will become a LEGO Ideas set, regardless of the number of Fan Votes obtained, although lots of votes certainly help! Once the final model is selected by the panel of judges, the fan who submitted the design will have the pleasure of becoming ther latest LEGO Ideas Fan Designer!

The selected Fan Designer will be compensated as outlined in the Product Idea Guidelines and Terms of Service. Specifically, they will receive the following:

  • 1% of the total net sales of the LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons product
  • 10 complimentary copies of your LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons set
  • Credit and bio in set materials as the LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons Fan Designer
  • A prize package of Dungeons & Dragons goodies

Submissions chosen for the Fan Vote phase, but not selected as the LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons product, will receive the following:

The contest will have three phases, and then the final model selection: 1.) Submission Phase – Create and submit your design before November 14th, 2022 at 6:00 a.m. EST. 2.) Judging Phase – Judges review the submissions and choose a number of designs (not more than 5) for a fan vote by November 28th, 2022. 3.) Fan Vote Phase – Fans will be invited to show their support for the designs, and the votes collected will help the judges determine which of the submissions will become the LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons product – voting will run from November 28th, 2022 – December 12th, 2022. 4.) Model Selection Announcement – The LEGO Ideas team will share which design has been chosen to become the LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons product, and will also share the result of the Fan Vote (let’s see if the most votes won the day, or if other aspects made the determination!) on LEGO Ideas no later than December 19th, 2022.

Submissions may be in either physical bricks or by using a digital building tool such as BrickLink Stud.io and must utilize between approximately 50 and 3,000 LEGO elements. You’re welcome to use image editing tools, such as Photoshop, to enhance your photos/presentation. Take up to five photos of your creation and submit them to the LEGO Ideas platform. Make sure to show off all angles and any features or functions of your creation. Add a title and a short description. Upload your submission using the Submit Entry button on the contest page.

Please note that including the standard LEGO Ideas Terms of Service (including, without limitation, the House Rules, Product Idea Guidelines, and Privacy Policy), there are additional D&D Contest Terms. So if you’re interested in participating, read through the rules and guidelines carefully to make sure your design can be approved and is eligible for review and voting.

I know many LEGO fans are very excited about entering this contest, and even those who don’t enter, they will have a chance to vote for their favorite entry. And of course, it’s awesome to hear that we’re going to have a LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons set sometime in the near future! What do you think? So is this going to be one set or a theme? So exciting!

I find it interesting that they are testing out this theme as contest first. Maybe because they aren’t sure it will work? Anyway, I won’t compete, but I will definitely vote.

I want this to be so awesome that Lego has to make an entire series!

Man, I can’t wait for the selection! I suppose we won’t see this set until like a year from now?

Initially, it seems doubtful that Lego would embark on a full-fledged theme with the license.

It seems to overlap quite a bit with other themes such as nostalgic Castle sets, the new LOTR license and Harry Potter…

Yeah, that’s true. Too many similar themes only confuse audiences. But if the reception is really good, they might expand the theme in the future.
