Back in 2021, LEGO invited a selection of LEGO Ideas members with projects that reached 10,000 votes but wasn’t selected as LEGO Ideas sets and gave them the opportunity to participate in an initiative to release their projects under the BrickLink Designer Program. Although some really interesting sets were released through this pilot program, it was not clear if the initiative will continue. However, a few days ago, the BrickLink team made the following announcement.
“We’re proud to share that the BrickLink Designer Program will live on! We’ve learned from the BDP 2021 Invitational, and the program is here to stay. Series 1 is the first in the new, permanent program. We’ll continue learning and adjusting to make each future series better.”
WHAT CALLING IT “SERIES 1” SAYS ABOUT THE PROGRAM’S FUTURE
The BrickLink team is committed to helping you realize your ideas through the BrickLink Designer Program. By calling this iteration Series 1, they are indicating the BrickLink Designer Program has matured from the one-off 2021 Invitational into a program they can sustain over time. With this and each future series, they’ll issue a fresh brief and submission guidelines. This way, the program can evolve as the team learns from experience during each series.

- Ask any questions in the new BrickLink Designer Program forum, where the team will monitor and respond.

It’s great to hear that the program continues. But they are no longer inviting rejected Ideas designers?
I noticed that too. I wonder why they are doing it this way. The ideas project already got 10k votes, so they are clearly popular. This would save several steps and time.
Maybe they will still do both. Or maybe they are now testing another way. Then see which works better. They are still adjusting, as they said.
