2012 LEGO Star Wars Planets pictures!

I have written a previous post about the 2012 LEGO Star Wars Planets sets – a particularly interesting series within the LEGO Star Wars universe, scheduled to be released next year.

The pictures I had available at that time were not the best though, so I wanted to update you with some better images. For more information on Series 1 and Series 2 of the Star Wars Planets check out my previous post: 2012 LEGO Sets: LEGO Star Wars Planets.

Below are the pictures of the LEGO Star Wars Planets in Series 1. (No clear images of Series 2 just yet, but you can see the earlier post for Series 2 set names and a bit-hard-to-see box-art views.) 😉

#9674 LEGO STAR WARS Naboo Starfighter & Planet Naboo

#9675 LEGO STAR WARS Sebulba’s Podracer & Planet Tatooine

#9676 LEGO STAR WARS TIE Interceptor & Death Star

My first thought when I saw the LEGO Star Wars Planets was that they would look great hanging from the ceiling with little LEGO space-ships flying around them! And now that I see they in fact have a loop on top, I will definitely try that! How do you like them? 8)

I have very little interest in these unless there is some awesome minifigures in future sets though the ability to suspend them from the ceiling (except the Death Star?) does increase there appeal by one point. I see way too little playability with these and most of the Star Wars minifigure scale sets these days. It’s a shame that play features are being put aside for accuracy of likeness and selling more licensed sets.

I think I like these for their display factor. Neither Will nor I are much into Star Wars, but Will has picked up several of the minis and these would fit perfectly in his collection. He has a small shelf of them and I can see a way of hanging the planets over the display part.

But I think on the whole, these will disappoint a lot of people.

They are a little on the boring side. More for collectors than anything.

Yeah, I agree on that one! I like the Death Star, and I wish the other planets were a bit more interesting too – not just a round globe with print. Some texture for the terrain would have been nice! They would be very useful for MOCs! 😀

I like that tantooine one. 🙂
    Is that a new color?

Quad, good question! I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the main color of the Tatooine globe is what BrickLink calls “Medium Dark Flesh” (and I think LEGO calls it ‘Nugget”). This is the color that was introduced in the Prince of Persia sets. IMHO one of the nicest LEGO colors! 😀

For me the best way to see me use these is in our x-mas tree!

That would be really cute! 😀

I think they’re an awesome novelty. Hopefully LEGO prices them reasonably. I’m more excited about the other LEGO Star Wars 2012 sets. I really want the Jedi Interceptor.
