Microbuild LEGO contest at Toys-N-Bricks!

LEGO fan-site Toys-N-Bricks is back with another great LEGO contest; their annual Microbuild LEGO Tournament! This is a really fun contest I won last year with my Mini Taj Mahal entry. 🙂

THE CHALLENGE: This year, the challenge is to build your own custom LEGO mini modular building with no more than 300 pieces.

THE RULES: Your entry must be a new modular building designed by you; it cannot be an official modular building (for example; it cannot be a mini modular based on LEGO Modular Fire Brigade, Pet Shop, Town Hall, etc). Entries must be completely new (you cannot use it in another LEGO contest, event, etc.). Entries must be built with LEGO pieces (no LDD, custom brands, stickers, other objects used).

I also got some clarification by Toys-N-Bricks moderators that your mini modular should fit with the LEGO Mini Modular set. So I would say it comes real handy if you already own the LEGO mini modulars. If not, you can check out the details and see pictures of the LEGO mini modulars here, and download the PDF building-instructions here: Mini Modulars – Instruction Book 1, Mini Modulars – Instruction Book 2. These should help you in the designing process of your own mini modular contest entry. 😉

THE PRIZES: The Grand Prize winner of this LEGO contest will receive a brand-new copy of the highly anticipated LEGO exclusive #10224 LEGO Modular Town Hall set. The Second Place Winner will receive a brand-new copy of the #8638 LEGO Cars Spy Jet Escape (no box) set along with 3 mini-sets: #7566 LEGO City Farmer, #30053 LEGO Star Wars Republic Cruiser and #30070 LEGO Toy Story Alien Spaceship. Sweet, huh? 😛

THE DEADLINE: Contest ends on April 15 at 21:00 PST (April 16 – 0:00 EST). You get 2 months to design and build your creation.

THE DETAILS: Check out the LEGO contest details, eligibility, and how to submit your entry here: Toys-N-Bricks Microbuild LEGO Tournament.

I highly recommend entering this LEGO contest for both the experienced builder as well as the beginner. It is a great way to get your feet wet and get some experience with entering LEGO contests, as you don’t have to build something huge, extensive and expensive. And, you may even win some amazing prizes! I would also recommend checking out our tips and tricks on winning a LEGO contest: Tips for Winning a LEGO Contest

I’m definitely planning to enter this LEGO contest again, and already have over 10 ideas! How about you? Are you planning to enter? Let me know in the comment section below! 🙂

Thanks for posting about this contest. Will has been really excited about mini building since we put the mini modulars together. We’ll have to see about making something, challenge ourselves to our own mini build.

And I’ve been thinking that you should post your mini Taj Mahal to CUUSOO. It’s a really great build. I know I’d buy it.

Sarah, thanks! Maybe the mini Taj could be part of the architecture series! 😀

Hope you guys will enter! It should be fun! 😉

Definitely would fit in with the series.

And yes, we’re going to enter. We built late into the night yesterday. I need to buy some pieces, but we’re pretty happy with our builds. I’ll post a link once they’re up.

Will, that is amazing! Love that it is a corner building! Great use of that quater dome! Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest! 🙂

We do a LEGO model as a family every Saturday because there is no electronics. Last time we did A modular, and it turned out to be great. When we heard about this, we were “We will do this!”

Toy, wishing the best for your family in the contest! 😀

PS I really want that town hall, too.

    • admin February 26, 2012, 12:20 PM

Yeah, the Town Hall is a great motivator for doing our best in this contest! 😀

    Some great entries so far!

Admin, when they say it has to fit in with the other mini modulars, is there a special connection with a peg? Or does it mean it just has to fit in with the theme: eg, police, house etc…

    • admin March 3, 2012, 9:44 AM

E, I asked the same question, and the response I got was that it should fit with the current mini-modulars in size, style, etc. I don’t think the pegs are going to be an issue if you don’t have any, but I would build it on an 8×8 plate and about 8-9 bricks high (the sise of the mini-modulars).

There are actually a few entries already, so if you go to the website and see what other contestants have built so far you would get a good idea of what is expected. 🙂

Also can u give me a guide of how to enter it, cos the website looks complicated….

    • admin March 3, 2012, 9:50 AM

E, Toys & Bricks is a forum, so it looks a bit different than regular websites. But it is very easy to navigate, and to enter the contest you really only need to be aware of two pages:

      The contest rules page: https://toysnbricks.com/

      The contest entry page: https://toysnbricks.com/

There are also some basic contest policies you can read here: https://toysnbricks.com/

That’s about it! If you have any other questions just let me know. 😉

Thanks a lot Admin! Great info. Im defintitely gonna enter. Just need some ideas…..

        • admin March 3, 2012, 5:23 PM

Let us know what you come up with! And good luck in the contest! 😉

          • E March 3, 2012, 5:38 PM

A bit stumped regards to size….8 x8 seems a bit small…no ideas either yet apart from a few ok ones….(sigh)

            • E March 4, 2012, 6:09 AM

By the way, you can’t enter Admin. It says on the website, that if you won last year you can’t enter 🙁

              • admin March 4, 2012, 10:12 AM

E, yes, I can enter. The last contest was in December. That is what the rule refers to, not the one I won. I did not enter the December contest. 😉

Oh right- sorry!! Didnt know there was one then- I thought it was yearly!! On Lego CUUSOO- uploading an image for a project, but it isn’t uploading. Getting annoying… 🙁

                  • admin March 4, 2012, 1:32 PM

You might consider contacting CUUSOO about the problem. Perhaps your image is too large? Or maybe someone else who has been using CUUSOO to upload projects can help you. I’m just not familiar with the process to be of any help. 😕

                    • E March 4, 2012, 2:38 PM

Oh thanks anyway.. still loading… feel like smashing the computer!!!

                    • admin March 4, 2012, 4:04 PM

Did you ever figure it out? It’s been over an hour. Just curious. Wishing you the best with uploading your project! 🙂

In a completely unrelated topic, you know Bricklink? What is their process? From the stores, do they ship it o us or what? How does it go?

    • admin March 5, 2012, 12:47 PM

I have a post on shopping on BrickLink. I would suggest you read that first, and if you still have questions we can continue the discussion. Here is the link: Shopping for LEGO on BrickLink
