LEGO light bricks – 12 x 12 light-up base

As you may remember I introduced you to a small Hong Kong based company that makes LEGO compatible light-bricks. Here is the link to the article where I reviewed their products in detail: LEGO Light Bricks – More Options! Since then they have also sent me a larger version of their light-brick called the 12 x 12 light-up base. So I thought to show it to you in case you are interested to check it out. 🙂

Custom LEGO Light Bricks

As you probably guessed 12 x 12 in the name of this new addition to the LEGO light-bricks family refers to the LEGO compatible studs. So yes, it is quite large – more like a platform or stand that you could use for your LEGO creations. In fact, unlike the small light-bricks made by the same company that you can integrate well into any LEGO diorama or set – with LEGO compatible studs on top and connection-points at the bottom – the 12 x 12 light-up base only has studs on top.

Custom LEGO Light Bricks Options

The bottom of the light-up base is smooth with a door for the battery section and a couple of holes for hanging. It is basically a square black box with a clear LEGO-compatible top. Nothing fancy, but it is solid. The LEGO light-up base operates on 3 standard AA batteries and has a simple on/off switch. Once you turn it on 16 LED lights come on with either a solid color or with different colors flashing at random, depending on the model.

I think it would be worth to add options for different light-patterns for the same light-up base. This would make each unit a lot more useful and versatile, and you wouldn’t have to buy a bunch of different colored ones for different LEGO projects. I could see the solid lights used in LEGO space-stations, LEGO city displays, alien worlds and all kinds of other LEGO creations. Solid colors would also work well as lighting options for  LEGO display cases, cabinets and shelves. It’s kind of cool when you can illuminate your LEGO displays with lights that come with LEGO studs! For the changing color version all I can think of is disco-floor! 🙄

The LEGO compatible light-up base is in the prototype stage at this point, but if you are interested you can check out LiteUpBlock.com and contact Samson. You can also leave him feedback right here, ask questions or share ideas for improvement. What would you use this light-up base for? What additional features would you like to have? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉

OK, I have to admit I wasn’t that much into the light-up bricks, but this base is something different. I could definitely use it for lighting up my collection on display like you mentioned. Not only that, I can see this being used in my City of Atlantis semi-MOC to do some “underwater” lighting effects!!! This sounds like a great product.

Micho, your idea is lighting up an underwater city would be amazing! I’m going to have to try that. I only have one big light-up base (the multi-colored one), but it should still be fun. Great idea! 😀

I had a feeling you might like that Anna. I picture it in the center of the city where the key to Atlantis is, maybe a trident or the Guardian Statue, Place that center piece on the base and use some blue lighting… I think it would look really sweet. If you decide to play with it give me a heads up, I’d love to see some pics.

Yep, thought of something similar. It could look magical. 😀

Matt, yes, I know. Thanks for mantioning that. Hope they can expand their production. 🙂

Sadly, that Kickstarter looks like it is NOT gonna happen.
I’m a supporter, but it would take a seriously miraculous spike in the next five days. They’ve barely got 10% of desired funding in the first 25 days.

Glenn, yeah, I saw that too. I hope they find other ways to fund their project because their products are nice and do fill a niche.

You could use the big one that flashes different colored lights randomly as a disco floor! Sorry I keep making adjustments to my name. I am going to right it down so I don’t forget again.

Yeah, that’s what I thought too; disco floor! As far as your name/email your computer should save that for you so you don’t have to type it in every time you comment. Just check your browser settings. 😉

        Clearly, you should be dancin’ . . . . . . yeah 😉

With a mini figure disco floor like that, everyone should be dancing!

is it normal that I have to type mine in every day? not every time I comment just everyday.

You can set your browser to automatically fill out forms and save the information. Yours is probably set to clear it when you shut down your computer or something.

This is neat! I love light-up bricks! I have built a custom MOC band complete with three electrical guitars, a drum set, and an electrical piano. The MOC would fit perfectly on top of this base and I can always do a little tweeking so that it’ll fit just right. All I need now is the disco dancer minifig, the rapper minifig, the punk rocker boy and girl minifigs, and the DJ. 🙂

That would be a great team and a fun setup! I wonder if they will get along though. 🙄

    Great for a nightclub!
