LEGO VW Camper Mini in every shape & style!

As you probably know already, this month LEGO is giving away a free exclusive Mini Volkswagen T1 Camper Van with purchases of $75 or more if you order through the Online LEGO Shop, or at LEGO store locations. Running promotions like this with small exclusive sets, minifigs or key-chains is something LEGO does on a regular basis and is always appreciated. 🙂

LEGO Shopping - Free Mini VW Camper

Although freebies are nice to get and we all look forward to them, I have rarely seen such an enthusiastic response to a small free set before. The Mini VW Camper is an undeniably cute version of the very popular #10220 LEGO Volkswagen T1 Camper Van. Even LEGO posted a sweet picture of the Mini VW Camper on their Google+ page with the following caption: “JUST SPOTTED! A LEGO Mini Camper! In the wild, the VW Camper Van carries its young until the mini is able to drive on its own.” 🙄

And the LEGO Mini Volkswagen Camper Van definitely ignited the creative juices of LEGO fans. They are making all kinds of wild and crazy contraptions from the VW Mini Camper, and there are at least two contests going on to challenge your Mini Camper conversion skills. One is at LEGO fan-site FBTB.net, where you are challenged to Star Wars-ify the Mini Camper Van, and the other is the EuroBricks Pimp My Camper contest. Both of the contests are still running and open until the end of the month, so if you would like to enter, just follow the links above. 😉

I find these rather neat. I do like how if you don’t want to put down $75 for the prom set (or you want to keep the one you got intact) there isn’t much restriction on keeping the colors the same. Personally I think that makes them look quite a bit more creative and interesting as well, even if most are very ridiculous in their impracticably.

Jacob, yes, allowing full creativity allows some crazy designs. You can actually download the PDF instructions for the mini camper, so you don’t have to have one to start playing around with it: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/

Pretty cool. Except for that stickered tile, all pieces seem to be quite common and easily ordered through Pick-A-Brick or Bricklink.

Yes, probably that is one of the reasons so many people are playing around with converting this set. It is small enough, easy enough, and the parts are common enough. 😉

someday I might enter in one of these… someday. but anyway, these people are very creative! 😀

You don’t have to enter a contest, you can just play around with a set like the mini camper, giving yourself some challenges. 😉

        good idea!

Wow there’s some cool MOCs!! 😀 I had no idea the camper would take off! Well they are pretty awesome 😉

These are very neat, I like the Tusken animal thing and the b-wing best, the former for thhe skillful transition into the starwars world yet still very much like a camper, and the latter because I think it is unique in that instead of being the main focus it is only a small part of the model.

It is a neat polybag set. We had a green VW van when I was growing up. I’m trying to justify getting spending $75 to get the set. But I should hold off on big LEGO purchases till OCT double Vip points.
    Points or a cool set.
I wish the VW symbol was a brick and not just a sticker. But that and downloading the instructions might help me wait.
Also some one transformed the set into a robot and posted the instructions. http://www.flickr.com/photos/darkblne/9776681376/

Chris, that flickr robot is a nice one! I just added it to my faves. 🙂
