LEGO Users Groups in South East Asia

(Written by HP)

I know a lot of readers here are from different parts of Asia, and also some of you may travel there on business or pleasure, so I thought to make a handy list of LEGO Users Groups in South East Asia (ASEAN). LEGO Users Groups are also referred to as LUGs (check out the funny cartoon below by FBTB.net) with members meeting on a regular basis, and also putting up public events to share their LEGO creations and promote the LEGO hobby. If you would like to get in touch with a particular group, you can contact them through their website listed below. I hope this will help you in your journey in meeting people who share the same hobby and passion as you; playing with LEGO bricks. 🙂

LEGO Users Group Meeting - Stud Comics by FBTB

BRICKS CLUB INDONESIA: This group has an active online forum where you can easily get in touch with other members. Their forum was founded in 2007, and has around a 1,000 registered members. Their website is klublego.fr.yuku.com

LEGO Users Group - Indonesia LUG

LEGO USERS GROUP SINGAPORE: Also known as LUGSING, this is the official home of LEGO fans from Singapore. They also have an active online forum with about 1,000 members. You can find their website at http://kli.web.id/forum/

LEGO Users Group - Singapore LUG

➡ PHILIPPINE LEGO USERS GROUP: Also known as PhLUG, this is a fairly new LUG formed in December of 2012, but with an active membership, organizing regular meet-ups and LEGO related events. (Gotta be proud of my country!) Their website is phlug.net

LEGO Users Group - Philippine LUG

THAI LEGO USERS GROUP: Also known as ThaiLUG, this is the community of LEGO fans from Thailand. They run a blog with some updates at thailug.wordpress.com

LEGO Users Group - Thailand

HONG KONG LEGO USERS GROUP: Also known as HKLUG, this group also has a very active only forum and news site at hklug.hk

LEGO Users Group - Hong Kong LUG

TAIWAN LEGO USERS GROUP: Also know as TWLUG, this group is split up to smaller groups in several cities. Their main website with link to the various sub-groups within the country is twlug.info. They also have Facebook and Google groups. You can find all the information on their resources page.

LEGO Users Group - Taiwan LUG

ASIABRICK: Formerly known as the Malaysia LEGO Club, this club also has an active online forum where you can get in touch with members. Their website is asiabrick.com (UPDATE: this link is no longer active.)

LEGO Users Group - Malaysia LUG

There are also other LEGO websites that operate in Asia, like BrickPhilippines.com, BrickThailand.com, etc., however these are not LUGs, but websites operated by LEGO distributors in these countries. However if I missed a LUG that you know of in South East Asia, or if you have any questions, let me know in the comment section below! It would also probably be a good idea to compile similar lists for other parts of the world.

I hope you enjoyed this article. My name is HP and I’m a TFOL (Teen-Fan-of-LEGO). This is my fifth article here at theBrickBlogger. I have got to find an Indonesian LUG that I belong in.

  • ninja of stealth October 16, 2013, 12:34 PM

that would be cool Fikko, I’m not old enough 🙁

  • Kabooshka October 16, 2013, 1:23 PM

Good article! As a British TFOL I’m not affected but I can see this post becoming a useful reference point for SEA collectors. My only criticism is the cartoon – I don’t get it, but maybe I’m dumb. Otherwise, nice job!

    • admin October 16, 2013, 2:24 PM

Yeah, that’s the idea; being a reference for AFOLs if they live, or plan to travel to Asia. As far as the cartoon, it is from a little series Ace from FBTB.net was doing. If you don’t get it you are probably not married to a non-AFOL. 😉

Off topic but has anyone else heard about the rumors of the hero factory line going miniature? Pretty much what bionicle did but I dont think it turned out to well. This would give us a hero HQ though…. 😉 pretty sweet eh?

    • admin October 16, 2013, 7:22 PM

Are you serious? I would be interested to see that happening! Maybe they will be using those smaller ball-joints that will be introduced with the Mixels line?

      • Fikko3107 October 17, 2013, 12:01 AM

I’ve heard of the news too. This speculation came about because of the incredibly cryptic leaked set list. Names include “Rocka Stealth Machine”, “FLY BEAST Vs. BREEZ”, and most interestingly I might add, “Furno & Evo Vs. Split Beast”. Sure, it might as well be boxed-together heroes and villains, ala the 2010 limited edition set “Dunkan Bulk Vs. Vapor”, and that Furno+Evo Vs. Split Beast might as well be like the 2007 Bionicle set “Karzhani”, which include one, large “villain”, and two smaller “heroes”. But how plausible is it if the whole line is made up of “Vs.” sets and “Machines” set, which may be similar to this year’s “Jet Rocka”? The only slightly predictable set I see is “Evo XL”, which, even then, still hints a large set. Hence, some people think Hero Factory will be miniaturized, but that’s only one speculation. People have been talking about it a lot in Eurobricks. Another possibility, IMO, is if they use minifigure-scale figures ala the Bionicle Playsets from 2006-07…

        • Chi-bacca October 17, 2013, 4:25 AM

Yeah I personally think they’re gonna turn out like the bionicle line with the vehicle things for the toa,was it the mistaka line? And the recent glatorians but minifig scale would be awesome and will give us a chance to make some cool MOCs depicting the size of a big bad guy with not as many parts. Cool rumor anyway 😀

        • admin October 17, 2013, 2:55 PM

Very interesting! I would love to see some mini Hero Factory characters – brick-built or minifig-like… I liked the Bionicle ones too. Let’s see how this plays out. 😛

      • Chi-bacca October 17, 2013, 4:20 AM

that would make sense for LEGO to utilise the new parts as they tend to do that. You could say I’m serious but it’s a rumor so I don’t know 🙂

Brunei also has a LUG, called BULAT (Brunei Usergroup Lego and Technics)

    this is their blog http://bulatlego.blogspot.com/

    🙂

    • Fikko3107 October 17, 2013, 12:01 AM

Amusing. In my language, “Bulat” means round…

      • HP October 17, 2013, 5:47 AM

        lol Fikko, ours too. 😀

      • ninja of stealth October 17, 2013, 12:10 PM

I’ve never heard of that word. let me look it up, its not in my dictionary, so I guess its not in english

        • Fikko3107 October 17, 2013, 8:06 PM

It’s not. But it is in Indonesian, probably Malaysian, and apparently also Filipino.

          • HP October 18, 2013, 8:18 AM

Not sure though, google translate thinks otherwise. But i’ve heard of it somewhere

UPDATE: I have received an email with the following info about another Asian LUG:

    Hello there!

Saw your article on LUGs in and around southeast Asia. Would like to add that there’s a new LUG that’s just started recruiting members this past July. Some additional info here:

    PassionLUG
    Country: Singapore
Description: A Singapore-based LEGO Users Group who love all things LEGO & want nothing more than to build and share our ideas & creations with you!
website: http://www.passionlug.sg (redirects to forums for now, registration required)

The purpose of this LUG is to reach out to non-AFOLs and get them back into playing with the brick. Getting them to realise the brick is much more than just a toy. We do an average of 3 public outreach events a month, ranging from free activities to paid workshop sessions. One of our main aims is also to share building techniques and ideas, inspiring builders and challenging them to build bigger and better.

Hope you could add us in as well, thanks!
