LEGO spaceship: the Solar Striker 3V viper

Due to Benny’s influence from The LEGO Movie, it seems like everyone these days is into building SPACESHIPS! I have found this really sweet little spaceship the other day from Nick Trotta (who’s ID picture is – very appropriately – a blue LEGO Classic Space guy), that I thought to share with you, so check it out! 🙂

LEGO Viper by Nick Trotta

This spaceship was actually built for Novvember 2013. No, that’s not a typo, Novvember refers to Vic Viper month; a yearly tradition started by the late nnenn, and is continued to be carried on by LEGO Space fans since nnenn’s tragic passing. Vipers have a very distinct shape, as you can see here. In fact, there is also a great example of a viper in the #7066 LEGO Alien Conquest Earth Defense HQ set, designed by Mark Stafford, which is also a tribute to nnenn with his name printed on the wings (photo by polywen).

LEGO Alien Conquest Tribute to nnenn

Going back to our lovely blue, white and orange viper by Nick Trotta, he named it the Solar Striker 3V, and it is full of amazing details, beautiful curves, and innovative uses of LEGO elements. Due to popular demand Nick also posted a video online (see below) showing how the Solar Striker is assembled – in case you want to build one for yourself. Also, Nick has some other very beautiful vipers and other LEGO Space creations, so make sure you check out his flickr gallery.

So what do you think? Do you like to build LEGO spaceships? How about vipers? And what do you think of the Solar Striker? Did any of the details catch your eyes; something that you would like to incorporate in your next LEGO creation? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉

I knew someone was going to say that. LOL! But that’s all right. I have been saying it all the time too! 😆

I’ve been saying that all the time too! even when I first looked at this post I thought (and almost said out loud) SPACESHIP, SPACESHIP, SHAPCESHIP!!!!!!!

Wow, that is one cool Spaceship. The amount of side, S-N-O-T, hinged, and fit-in-place techniques on that thing is amazing! 😀 😎 I really like those orange vents, how they slide in like that, LDD would never let me do that. 😉 😕
I note that the basic shape resembles an Eta-2 Light Interceptor in blue, but with quite a few modifications.
Also, admin, not to be annoying, but in the last paragraph, it should be ‘Did any of the details “catch” your eyes,’ not “caught”. Just saying 😉

Thanks for noticing the typo. Just fixed it. It is a good thing that I have so many editors. 😀

Some of the techniques used here may not be considered “legal” by LDD, so with models like this you may be able to work out the basic shape in LDD, but then will have to switch over to real bricks. I really like the shaping and details on this thing too. 🙂

Gotta build me some spaceships soon. Put my old minifigs to practical use…

  • Lorca Strand March 20, 2014, 11:56 AM

The last time I built a spaceship was in 2012! I should probably build a new one soon.

This is off-topic, but does anyone on TBB like the band The National? I found these hilarious LEGO incarnations: http://www.flickr.com/photos/smodje/sets/72157633536918620

Thank you! Did you see the Trouble Will Find Me” cover?

        • admin March 20, 2014, 2:54 PM

Lorca, sorry for the delay, I was in the middle of writing an article. Yes, I did see that one. Very-very clever execution and great photography!

Wow! That’s awesome. Love the color scheme and all the details. One of the best Spaceships I’ve ever seen.

  • Bohrok Tru March 20, 2014, 12:46 PM

very nice, I notice it would look quite alot like a Jedi starship if you removed the tail wing, and the back side wings. =D very well built ship!

    • admin March 20, 2014, 2:56 PM

I guess that’s true for pretty much any spaceship as the Star Wars Universe pretty much covers every possible shape a spaceship could be! 😀

      • BLProductions March 20, 2014, 5:03 PM

Are you sure it covers every shape? What about those double-decker spaceships people are making? 😉
        I’ve also made an M-shaped fighter. 🙂

LOL! No, I didn’t think of a double-decker spaceship! And alphabet fighters are always fun!
