Oh, yes, the long-awaited Minecraft sets, very nice indeed, and – oh my!- look at how overpriced this large sets are! 😮 😀 I still like the Ender Dragon, but I wish it was $60, not $70, all the sets I really want seem to be $70. 😕 Ok, after looking at the set’s parts on Brickset, I really like the Ender Dragon. 🙂 But admin, your price for the Mine is off, though $100 would be a way better price, it’s actually $109.99. 😉 Also, I’m going to try to get my article about new pieces to you today or tomorrow, I just have to stop finding new pieces. 😐

    • admin November 15, 2014, 12:24 PM

      Sounds good! 🙂

One question, though. Can you put two different pictures side-by-side (as in between the same two paragraphs)? Or would I need to put them in a text box, so they make one picture?

        • admin November 15, 2014, 2:42 PM

Well, it depends on how wide the pictures are. As you know, we are working with a pretty narrow middle-column (480 pixels), so the two pictures need to fit there side-by-side. In the article by legogeek the other day, I actually took two of his pictures, cropped them, and put them side by side as one picture. It was possible because he had a lot of empty space on his photos that I could crop away.

If you want you can do your own cropping and chopping and make two (or however many) pictures into one in a photo-editing program. Again, the width has to be 480 pixels. The length is more flexible, but I don’t like to go over a 1000 pixels for one image as it may load too slow on some devices and connections. Or I could do it for you. In this case just leave instructions inside the text. Something like: please put picture #1 and #2 next to each other. But again, I can only do the images are narrow enough.

Please do not use text boxes in your article. I will have to strip them out, reformat them and add them back in. A bunch of extra work. It is best to always attach the pictures separately as simple jpeg or png images.

          • BLProductions November 15, 2014, 3:36 PM

Hm…ok, I won’t do text boxes. The two pictures I want side by side are actually pretty small, as I took the set image, cropped it to show only the piece, and then removed the background. So they’re already small. I don’t know anything about pixels, I use Word to crop these, as they are just copied images from the Web.
The reason I ask is because one picture is literally just the green blade in this picture: http://brickset.com/sets/70753-1/Lava-Falls Nothing else. So I figured I could add another picture next to it, to fill in the empty space. The other picture is just the orange piece being used as an eyebrow in Flinx’ Ultimate Phoenix.
Now that I think about it, though, maybe you could put the tall picture to the right of the paragraph in question, and cut the other one. Like on some of the contributor pages. Will that help?

            • admin November 15, 2014, 3:43 PM

You can just send the pictures as they are. I should be able to figure it out. I could do as you said, and put the two pictures together, or insert the picture into the text to either the left or right. Don’t worry, pictures have never been a real big problem. I can always edit them, crop them, clean them up, or whatever is needed to make them look as good as possible. As long as the photography (or in this case cropping) is decent, I can work with them.

              • BLProductions November 15, 2014, 4:07 PM

Great! 🙂 BTW, I did some fiddling, and found that the resolution of the picture of Lava Falls I used was 150.01 pixels/inch. So the cropped image is about 112.51 pixels in width by 196.51 pixels in height. So it fits your limits. 😉 Now all I have to do is find all the pics I need.

FYI, Word is not a good software for image editing. Gimp is much better, available for most common operative systems, and totally free.

(Photoshop is even better, but it’s rather expensive.)

                  • BLProductions November 16, 2014, 1:30 PM

I’m aware it’s not the best for editing pictures. In fact, I have only used its editing tools for the 2015 new pieces, since otherwise I’d have to save the set images to my computer. Normally I use iPhoto or Picasa to edit my photos. 😉

I’m really curious to see how these Minecraft sets perform. I would love to see someone do a really big Minecraft world with them. There is a poster in the latest LEGO Club Magazine with a really large Minecraft layout using the new sets, and it looks really good. But they must have used like 100 sets for that!

  • Legozebra November 15, 2014, 11:52 AM

Hi! Nice article, just an edit that the mine is $109.99 and not $99.99… Thanks!

    • Legozebra November 15, 2014, 11:52 AM

Sorry, I see someone already said this… My bad

    • admin November 15, 2014, 12:24 PM

Thanks, I fixed that. I guess they added another $10 to it. 🙄

      • BLProductions November 15, 2014, 12:54 PM

I can’t see why they did that. It’s pointless, and therefore bound to make sales of the Mine lower than the other sets. And I suppose we won’t be seeing they sets on sale any time soon. 😕

        • admin November 15, 2014, 12:58 PM

If the sets perform really poorly they will go on sale eventually. But I don’t see that happening for a while. Probably not until towards the end of next year. If they do go on sale though they will be excellent parts-packs for basic elements in really nice colors. I have two of the sets and really enjoy those nougat pieces. 🙂

  • sup3rcam234 November 15, 2014, 1:04 PM

I hope that they lower the price of the enderdragon set. I like the armor pieces that are shown in the enderdragon set.

  • OTigger November 15, 2014, 4:11 PM

I would think about getting one of these, cause i sometimes play the game… but they are just so expensive, and you cant really combine those sets with city. The only useful ones(To me) are the crafting box and the farm.

    • admin November 15, 2014, 9:46 PM

If you can only get one set I would also suggest the crafting box. Comes with plenty of pieces and characters. Interesting you mention that they can’t be combined with LEGO City. One of my favorite LEGO reviewers from YouTube is JANGBRiCKS and he in fact does combine a Minecraft scene into his LEGO City layout. It actually looks really good. Let me see if I can find a video for you, just a sec… okay, here: http://youtu.be/nSDlOtIaMq0

      • Kim November 16, 2014, 12:50 AM

Oo I’m gonna have to subscribe to him. I love his city. I don’t play Minecraft at all but these sets intrigue me. I may at least get a crafting box or the farm or something. I feel like I could fashion it them in to something useful.

  • ninja of stealth November 17, 2014, 1:07 PM

I really like the Pixel-ized weapons, other than that. eh, not my thing. Plus LEGO is finally getting into detailed bricks! YAY!

  • Stan July 23, 2015, 1:22 PM

My son has been trying to get me to buy him some of this. I didn’t know it actually existed until now. Now he’s going to bug me even more
