2015 LEGO sets – New York Toy Fair report

We have covered the London and German Toy Fairs (see links at the end of this post) and today we will talk about some of the sets that were revealed at the recent New York Toy Fair. As you probably know already, these are the events where we can get a first glimpse of the new LEGO sets and themes of the year. While many of the sets were showcased at the previous toy fairs, the New York Toy Fair had even more. Please note that we will only focus here on the LEGO sets we haven’t seen before, for the previously revealed sets you can check out the earlier toy fair reports. I also recommend watching the video coverage from the BrickShow as they filmed all of the new sets at the toy fair. Pictures have also been added to the Brickset database. So let’s take a look. 🙂

LEGO New York Toy Fair

2015 LEGO JURASSIC WORLD SETS: As we have discussed previously (see: LEGO Jurassic World Sets Coming in 2015!), LEGO is releasing a series of six sets based on the new film. Five of the sets were showcased at the toy fair and you can see them below: #75915 LEGO Jurassic World Pteranodon Capture, #75916 LEGO Jurassic World Dilophosaurus Ambush, #75917 LEGO Jurassic World Raptor Rampage, #75918 LEGO Jurassic World T-Rex Tracker, #75919 LEGO Jurassic World Ultra Dino.

2015 LEGO SCOOBY-DOO SETS: This is another brand new theme for 2015 that we have discussed previously (see: LEGO Scooby-Doo Sets Press-Release & More!), but now we have more pictures that you can see below: #75901 LEGO Scooby Doo The Headless Horsemen, #75900 LEGO Scooby Doo Mummy Mystery Museum, #75904 LEGO Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion, #75903 LEGO Scooby Doo Haunted Lighthouse, #75902 LEGO Scooby Doo Mystery Machine Escape.

I think the LEGO Jurassic World sets look good. The blue and white color-scheme is a bit bland and too similar to LEGO City Police sets, but that’s just the result of this being a licensed theme. The dinos look great with the detailed printing. And I’m pretty sure the LEGO Scooby Doo sets are going to be a favorite for a lot of people. There are so many winning details, nicely designed minifigs, and great accessories! In the video-preview below YouTube member just2good talks about both the LEGO Jurassic World and the LEGO Scooby-Doo sets in more detail.

2015 LEGO SUPER HEROES SETS: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes are also getting a lot of new sets this year. We have discussed some of them previously, but more have been revealed at the New York Toy Fair: #76034 LEGO DC Super Heroes Batboat Harbor Pursuit, #76035 LEGO DC Super Heroes Jokerland, #76036 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Carnage’s Shield Sky Attack, #76037 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Rhino and Sandman Supervillain Team Up, #76038 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Attack on Avengers Tower, #76039 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Marvel’s Ant-Man.

#76034 LEGO Super Heroes #76035 LEGO Super Heroes #76036 LEGO Super Heroes #76037 LEGO Super Heroes #76038 LEGO Super Heroes

There are some really excellent sets in both the DC and Marvel line-up. I’m particularly impressed by the Ant-Man set; it includes some incredible minifigs and the addition of the large LEGO bricks is brilliant. In the video-preview below YouTube member just2good talks about both the DC and Marvel sets in more detail.

2015 LEGO STAR WARS SETS: Star Wars is a staple theme at LEGO, so it is no surprise that are getting a new wave. This is the first time we see pictures of most of these sets, so it’s quite exciting. Some of them look like real winners, while others are somewhat boring, and even controversial: #75091 LEGO Star Wars Flash Speeder, #75092 LEGO Star Wars Naboo Starfighter, #75093 LEGO Star Wars Death Star Final Duel, #75094 LEGO Star Wars Imperial Shuttle Tydirium, #75095 LEGO Star Wars TIE Fighter, #75097 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar, #75106 LEGO Star Wars Imperial Assault Carrier.

#75091 LEGO Star Wars #75092 LEGO Star Wars #75093 LEGO Star Wars #75094 LEGO Star Wars #75095 LEGO Star Wars #75106 LEGO Star Wars #75110 & #751101 LEGO Star Wars

2015 LEGO MINECRAFT SETS: We have already talked about the upcoming LEGO Minecraft sets. This is the second wave of LEGO Minecraft sets that are minifigure scale, featuring more landscapes from the Minecraft terrain: #21119 LEGO Minecraft The Dungeon, #21120 LEGO Minecraft The Snow Hideout, #21121 LEGO Minecraft The Desert Outpost, #21122 LEGO Minecraft The Nether Fortress.

#21119 LEGO Minecraft Box #21120 LEGO Minecraft Box #21121 LEGO Minecraft Box #21122 LEGO Minecraft Box

The LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series TIE Fighter is absolutely huge! We will talk about this set separately in more detail. The LEGO Star Wars large-scale buildable figures are an interesting idea. I think Darh Vader is fine, but Luke Skywalker looks kind of creepy. We will see how LEGO fans react to these. As far as the LEGO Minecraft sets, they look good. While I liked the micro-scale LEGO Minecraft sets, they were more a niche item for collectors. The minifigure scale sets appeal more to kids as they can build up large landscapes and have real minifig characters. Also, the color-schemes are really nice. In the video-preview below YouTube member just2good talks about both the LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Minecraft sets in more detail.

So what do you think? How do you like the upcoming 2015 LEGO sets? Which ones are you looking forward to the most? Are you saving up for any of them? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! And in the meantime you can also check out the already released 2015 LEGO sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

Too many pictures for me. I’m still numb on the topic. But the Technic and Creator sets are great, and Minecraft and Scooby Doo look fine in my opinion. Jurassic World looks cool, but since they will all probably be close to double their worth, I will not be getting any. And admin, you can change the name of “Ultra Dino” to “Indominus-rex Breakout.” SW has some vehicles we haven’t gotten recently, but the sets look weak overall. But I can understand they’re waiting to bring out the good stuff for the new movie. Marvel and DC looks reasonable, I do like the large LEGO objects included in the Ant-man set. And the Ultra Agents look awesome, I can’t wait for more images of those. 🙂
Also, the UCS TIE Fighter (of which I will withhold my opinion of until its post) is up on LEGO Shop US, coming May 2, 2015. 😉

Yeah, too many good things can have a numbing effect. I also like Scooby-Doo, just because they look fun. Especially the lighthouse. I think the success of Jurassic World will have to do a lot with the success of the movie. If it is a good movie it can bring a lot of new fans into the hobby. If not, the sets themselves are not the best dino sets LEGO ever made. At least in my opinion the previous dino sets had a better color-scheme.

I agree about SW; not much to talk about. I choose not to include the TIE Fighter here as it deserves its own separate post. I have already gotten the press-release, but I think I will wait with it some. The set won’t be out until May anyway. And yes, the most interesting sets this time are Marvel and DC. One thing I don’t like though is that in practically every single one of them the main paly-feature is the super-jumper. Really, the best sets are the Ultra Agents.

I’m most impressed by the Scooby Doo. The Jurassic Park ones aren’t as impressive as I’d hoped, so I’m not sure how much of those I’d collect, or it could be that I just don’t know how to incorporate them into my city layout. I’m on the fence about those. But the scooby doo ones look great. And I am also especially gunning for that Lighthouse. I almost bought the Friends one because my beach will need a light house and I was also looking at Paradisa Dolphin Point? as a possibility but as soon as I saw the Scooby Doo one I knew which one to gun for.

        • admin February 19, 2015, 1:34 PM

Yeah, I also went through the same process; almost bought the Friends one, but when I saw the Scooby-Doo lighthouse I knew that’s the one I really want. Both sets are very lovely, but the Scooby-Doo one has a more realistic color-scheme.

          • BLProductions February 19, 2015, 8:32 PM

I have no interest in the Friends lighthouse, but the Scooby Doo one is pretty cool. I like the dark green Swamp Creature, and the use of Balin’s hairpiece on the lighthouse keeper. The color scheme is definitely more realistic as well. However, I probably will not get any Scooby Doo, as like Jurassic World, I don’t have too much interest in the theme as a whole.

            • admin February 19, 2015, 8:38 PM

I don’t have interest in the full theme either, but I do like the lighthouse. Sometimes it is worth just getting one set from a theme, maybe change it a bit, and incorporate it to whatever else you are working on. 🙂

I think I am going to try a new spending method , spend only $ 50.00 bucks or under. Save the more expensive sets for Birthdays or Christmas . Things are just getting way to expensive. Also, I can get a little bit of everything.

  • Kim February 19, 2015, 3:58 PM

So, I’ve been having trouble deciding whether to use new road plates or old roadplates for my city. I have a ton of older ones but a lot of the vehicles that are newer are fatter. However, I also have old sets that specifically use a road plate in them, like Main Street. I’m not sure what the best thing to do it is. Any suggestions?

    • admin February 19, 2015, 4:28 PM

Hm… that’s a tough one. I would say the future is for the new road-plates, so if you are planning to expand I would switch over to those. Older plates tend to go for really good money, so if you sell them you can probably replace them with even more plates of the newer kind.

If your City layout is pretty much set for now and you are not planning to expand on it significantly, you could stay with the older road-plates and just leave them as that. BTW, it’s funny, because this is actually a very real life problem; cities have to keep expanding roads and parking spaces because vehicles got so much bigger (fatter, as you said) in the past 15-20 years. It’s interesting how this real-life problem also translates over to LEGO. 🙄

      • Kim February 19, 2015, 4:47 PM

I definitely plan on expanding. I ought to just buy a few of the new ones and experiment with the sets that require road plates like Main Street and see what sort of modifications need to be made. I thought I had read somewhere that there are fewer side studs on the newer roads but I don’t know if that’st true, potentially making it so there’s not enough space to build the buildings in Main Street directly on the road baseplate, however, if that were the case, I could always find an equitably sized baseplate and just have them farther away from the road on a separate one.

        • admin February 19, 2015, 4:52 PM

That’s a good plan. Once you figure out that all the sets would fit (or not) on the newer baseplates you can decide if you want to switch or just stay with the old ones. If you do stay with the old ones, expect to pay a pretty penny for them. They are expensive!

          • Kim February 19, 2015, 6:28 PM

Mmm yes. I imagine it’s the same for 9V tracks too, as I only have the ones that came with the set, which will not be big enough to go around a 8′ by 6′ display. Depending on how much it will cost, I may just not have the train go around the entire set up, but then I’ll have to probably invest in manual crossing sets. The one from the same year as my train seems to be the least expensive one, as I was looking at the world city one and the price was outrageous.

            • Håkan February 20, 2015, 7:39 AM

I have some old roadplates. I got them on a flea market together with four crater plates as a bargain.

Anyway. I guess it could be possible to combine the plates for different parts of the city? It seems the newer ones are dark bley though, which might be tougher to combine with the old light gray.

  • David Tennant Lover February 19, 2015, 9:34 PM

I want to get the Final Duel set, Rhino and Sandman set, and the Carnage set. I love Carnage and I’m so happy he is a lego! 😀 I can’t explain my excitement!

    • admin February 19, 2015, 9:55 PM

Yeah, for Marvel fans they are a dream come true! 😛

  • Legonizer February 20, 2015, 3:01 AM

I wonder who the orange-haired person person in the minecraft set is, the only human character in the game is Steve (the player/protagonist)

    • Håkan February 20, 2015, 6:56 AM

It’s Alex, an alternative basic skin for the player/protagonist.

      • Håkan February 20, 2015, 6:57 AM

He/It first appeared in the last major update, September 2014.

        • LegoUniverse Bob February 20, 2015, 7:24 AM

It’s the base skin for female genders, as it has 3 pixel thick arms and it has a slightly thinner body shape.

  • LegoUniverse Bob February 20, 2015, 7:27 AM

The Marvel Superhero sets’ names this year are a bit lame in my opinion (“Rhino and Sandman super villain team-up”). I’m looking forward to the Minecraft sets, hopefully I can snatch one up for my brother and me. The Scooby Doo sets look neat, I think the Mystery Machine will be the most popular as anyone who says Scooby Doo will have that stuck in their heads.

    • Håkan February 20, 2015, 7:41 AM

There’s a Green Goblin in a Junior set, as well. Pretty lame set (as I tend to think of everyone where Spidey uses vehicles and gadgets) but nice Green Goblin minifig, if that’s your thing.

  • Micho February 20, 2015, 2:31 PM

Ah besides the Avenger’s Tower, all I really want from this wave will be minifigures. I love Daphne’s hair and the minifigure as a whole so I gotta have it, along with Miles Morales and Iron Spidey. That is all I want this year apart from all the Pirates wave.

    • Micho February 20, 2015, 2:32 PM

Oh… I forgot the ant man set 😮

  • Nicolas February 20, 2015, 5:34 PM

I NEED THOSE JURASSIC WORLD SETS NOW!!!!!!

  • Nicolas April 15, 2015, 11:38 AM

Has anybody by any chance gotten a jurassic world set yet?

    • admin April 15, 2015, 11:39 AM

Nicolas, yes, some of the sets are already available on eBay. Why are you asking?
