LEGO Juniors Supermarket review & more!

LEGO Juniors is a fairly new theme, targeting children who are just transitioning over from LEGO DUPLO to regular LEGO. The sets include standard LEGO elements and minifigures, but they are easier to put together due to fewer steps and some specialized larger elements (like one-piece vehicle bases and large wall elements). And as we have discussed previously (see: LEGO Juniors – No Stickers, Pretty Prints! ), their greatest feature is that all the decorated elements are printed. LEGO Juniors was introduced last year, but there have been already some really lovely sets that can appeal not just to little kids, but teen and adult LEGO collectors as well. In the current wave there are three such sets, and we will talk about them today. 🙂

The most interesting amongst the just-released LEGO Juniors set is the #10684 LEGO Juniors Supermarket Suitcase. It features a little supermarket with some excellent, hard-to-find, and highly desirable LEGO accessories. First of all there is a red scooter, which so far only appeared in a couple of sets. There is a small vegetable stand with fruits, veggies and flowers, a bread-stand, and an ice-cream stand. The bread-stand comes with French bread, croissant, and pretzel, and the ice-cream stand comes with the new cones and ice-cream pieces in two flavors.

#10684 LEGO Juniors Supermarket Details

The two store signs that you see at the front are both printed. Inside the store you will find more printed elements; the orange-juice bottle and milk-carton are still quite rare, and the cereal box is a brand new printed element. There are also more common printed parts like the cash-register and the money-tile, but it is always nice to have more of those. The two female minifigures have new printings, and you also get a very rare dark-orange cat. As I said; this set is just full of rare elements!

Really nice, isn’t it? As you can see in the review-video above by just2good, the #10684 LEGO Juniors Supermarket Suitcase is packed in a pink storage box that can be configured in different ways with insertable dividers – a useful item for sorting and storing your LEGO. The suitcase measures over 9″ (25cm) high, 11″ (28cm) wide and 2″ (6cm) deep, and the set itself comes with 134 pieces and sells for $19.99. With all the rare elements and accessories, this set is a must, especially for LEGO City fans. You can get it directly at the LEGO Juniors section of the Online LEGO Shop.

#10677 LEGO Juniors Beach Set

The other two sets in the LEGO Juniors line that I wanted to bring your attention to are the #10677 LEGO Juniors Beach Trip, and the #10679 LEGO Juniors Pirate Treasure Hunt. Both are small $10 sets, but have some very nice unique elements. The LEGO Juniors Breach Trip comes with printed elements on the little car, a really nicely printed surf-board, another uniquely printed female minifigure, and an extremely rare Chihuahua, that so far appeared in only one set! Again, totally worth the price!

#10679 LEGO Juniors Pirate Set

The LEGO Juniors Pirate Treasure Hunt is a great addition to the new LEGO Pirates line, but can also stand on its own with another great array of accessories; a boat, a shark, a printed pirate-flag, a printed map, a pirate minifig with new torso-printing and printed hat, and – at least to me – the most exciting part is that printed wall-element! And all for only $10! LEGO Juniors is definitely the most underrated LEGO line. You can find both sets, along with other LEGO Juniors sets, at the Online LEGO Shop.

I picked these up haven’t opened them yet as I have a bag log to build, but it should be freeing up as I finally finished building my fairground mixer. I’m excited to build the beach one and the other one it’ll be fun to look at the elements and put them back in the suitcase until I’m ready to build a fuller grocery store. I will probably need at least two of this set I think. Now I must get he pirate one because of the black treasure box.

I also ordered the Supermarket for myself, along with some other smaller sets as I had quite a bit of VIP Points I wanted to burn up. I supposed to be getting it tomorrow. Can’t wait to build it and check out those super-cool printed tiles! I’m planning to incorporate them in my modular display. I can’t believe I missed that black treasure-box! 🙄

Yeah, I just got mine and it’s fantastic! I also like the storage case. Very useful for car-rides. 🙂

At first I thought the Juniors sets seemed a little unnesseccary, but the accessories are definetly sweet! (I like how the skeleton in the pirate set has the joint and socket, or “wobbly,” arms.)

    • admin March 12, 2015, 10:41 AM

Yeah, I like that skeleton too – it’s very funny. BTW, today’s post will be an hour later than usual due to the press-release of the Kwik-E-Mart and the information is under strict embargo until 11 AM EDT.

I was just about to ask where was today’s post. Okay, so just 15 more minutes?

        • admin March 12, 2015, 10:55 AM

          Yeah, just a few more minutes… 😉

I like the junior sets because I like girly things, but I like regular minifigures, not the Friends style. So I would definitely buy the supermarket and the beach set. Do they still have the junior sets with princesses?
