LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters

Rumors have been circulating about a LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters – a huge set with over 4,600 pieces and a retail price of $350, which is supposedly scheduled for release early next year. The rumor was later solidified by savvy LEGO fans who found the set name on LEGO’s website (now deleted). Then a few days ago Toys’R’Us Canada revealed (now also deleted) the description of the set, so at this point we can be very sure that the LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters is for real (you can follow the progression of rumors and leaks up to this point in this Brickset news announcement). So let’s take a look. 🙂

Shop LEGO Ghostbusters

Here is the description of the set: Recreate iconic Ghostbusters scenes with the 2-story Firehouse Headquarters, featuring laboratory, living quarters, containment unit and much more. Capture the ghosts with the proton packs and restore order, or solve other supernatural cases!

  • Includes 9 minifigures: Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore, Janine Melnitz, Dana Barrett, Louis Tully, Library Ghost and Zombie Driver.
  • Slide the Ghostbusters heroes down the fire pole into action. Chase the ghosts and secure them in the containment unit.
Turn the librarian old lady into a scary ghost with the double-sided face and extra wig! Run tests on Louis in the lab to see if he’s possessed!
  • Suspend ghosts around the building’s exterior with attachable transparent arms. Dodge the slime oozing up through cracks in the pavement.
  • Measures over 14″ (36cm) high, 9″ (25cm) wide and 14″ (38cm) deep.

The Price listed at Toys’R’Us Canada is $399.99 CAD, which should correspond to $349.99 in the USA, as reported earlier.

LEGO Modular Street

So let’s talk about this, starting with the size. The height of the set is right about the same as the #10224 LEGO Creator Town Hall (without the clock-tower) from the LEGO Modular Buildings series. So it is definitely tall. The width equals about 28 studs, so slightly less than the 32 stud width of the LEGO Modular Buildings. The depth however is massive, at about 45 studs. Based on this it appears that the #75827 LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters is not compatible with the LEGO Modular Buildings, but it is a standalone large building – perhaps like the #10228 LEGO Monster Fighters Haunted House.

There are also rumors that the #75827 LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters opens up like a doll-house (so it is similar to the #10228 LEGO Monster Fighters Haunted House in this feature as well), which also makes it incompatible with the LEGO Modular Buildings that all come with stacked floors. Of course, depending on the final scale and design some LEGO fans may still choose to adopt the set to fit with the LEGO Modular Buildings.

Based on the piece-count and the price, the #75827 LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters must be very detailed both on the outside and the inside. Notice though that the description doesn’t mention anything about the building including the Ecto-1, so if you are interested in the HQ, I highly recommend that you pick up the #21108 LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1 now, because once the #75827 LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters gets released there is going to be a new surge of interest in the Ecto-1. You can find it under the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

That the LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters includes 9 minifigures is awesome. My guess is that the new version of the Ghostbusters team will be similar than what we got in the #21108 LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1, but hopefully with printed arms to include the iconic arm-patch. And I’m thinking that the ghosts will use the new lower body piece from the recent LEGO Ninjago sets and Collectible Minifigs Series 14.

Also, remember that we are also getting Ghostbusters in the LEGO Dimensions line, so these are good times for LEGO Ghostbusters fans.

Omg yess! I hope this isn’t just a rumour.. didnt lego ideas reject this idea not that long back? I cant wait for this but my wallet isn’t excited. The awesome looking brick bank comes first then this if it’s real… just hope lego doesn’t drop any more bombs on us before the release my wallet really can’t take any more awesomeness.

It appears that this set is pretty much out of the rumor category at this point, which is a good thing. But as you said, our valets are not going to be happy! Lists of 2016 sets are just starting to solidify, but there has been no news of any of the exclusives as of yet, so we don’t know what other awesomeness is planned for next year. While LEGO has been releasing a lot of new themes and smaller sets, the number of big sets has been about the same. This year I only got the Detective’s Office and the Ninjago Temple – both quite reasonable in price. But if LEGO starts to release more $300-$400 sets, then yeah, that’s trouble…

This past year has been a very expensive Lego year for me, playing catch up on the Modular series and so forth. With this Ghostbusters firehouse, the bank, and my yet to acquire the Palace Cinema, I think it will be another expensive year, albeit not as expensive as 2015 has been. Since last December, I have acquired 4 Modular buildings (one paying a premium for being retired) and building my own MOC modular building. And that doesn’t include all the minifigs, some of the Mixels, Dimensions, Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, and winter sets. My photography hobby took a backseat this year since I can’t afford two expensive hobbies at once!

Now my current big obstacle, besides trying to pass these purchases past the wife, is where to display them. My Ikea cabinets are running low on space being that they are currently housing a MOC modular Irish Pub, the Petshop, Detective’s Office, Parisian Restaurant, and the Grand Emporium. I need to come up with a different solution…shelves would work better but I like the idea of them being behind glass to keep dust at a minimum. Hmmm….

Can totally relate. For me 2014 was expensive like that with buying three Modulars. And yes, displaying is an issue for many other LEGO fans. Just yesterday I spent some time figuring out how to expand my Modular display as I calculated I can only add two more buildings to the current setup. BTW, I keep my Modulars and all other LEGO displays, on open shelves and I only have to dust them off a couple of times a year. It is actually a pleasurable experience and a good excuse to play with sets I haven’t touched for a while. So you may consider keeping at least some of your sets on open shelves. Taking care of them is not that bad. As far as passing the sets by the wife, that’s a hard one. I just read on Reddit that a good solution that actually works is that whenever you buy LEGO, buy something for her too. You know; something she likes. 😉

The other problem I have is I have two bengal cats that don’t give a (insert word) of where they are and are not allowed to go. I could put the shelves high enough to keep them out of it but then you are unable to appreciate all the details you would see if they were at waist/eye level, especially since I have LEDs on the insides to light them up at night. The glass doors on the cabinet keep them out, minimizing dust is a perk.

        • admin October 23, 2015, 1:29 PM

Oh, yes, cats can be a problem. For some reason cats have this weird love-affair with LEGO. Your display sounds beautiful. Maybe just need to buy a bigger house? 😉

          • VirtualMirage October 23, 2015, 2:31 PM

Ha, that’s that the wife says.

Not having cats would be the cheaper solution, but I am too attached to them.

            • admin October 24, 2015, 8:22 AM

              Yes, cats are awesome. 🙂

Hopefully Simpsons will lay off this up-coming year. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see one.

Plus I’m pretty sure we’ll sed another Carnaval attraction (love those).

We’ll probably get a new Winter Village set.

Then I might get suckered in by an exclusive from one of the off-shoot lines like Nexo Knights, Scooby-Doo, or even another Super heros set.

Boy…that’s already tapped me out and I haven’t even caught up with this year.

And I’m with everyone else, the modular and the Ghostbuster HQ are musts.

    • admin October 23, 2015, 12:50 PM

Oh, yes, it is likely that The Simpsons will get a new large set. And Jamie Berard already mentioned that the new Winter Village set is ready for next year. And it is very likely – as you said – that there will be a new carnival set. Nexo Knights does look quite interesting. I’m liking the characters and some of the vehicles. My guess is that somewhere around January we should get a fairly good idea of all the sets and new themes coming next year. Unless LEGO tightens their security… which they haven’t been doing a very good job with… 🙄

      • floridabrick October 25, 2015, 3:09 AM

I think you meant Jamie Berard?

        • admin October 25, 2015, 9:53 AM

Yes, that’s who I meant. I’m not sure why I changed his name! 😀

  • TheBrickLot October 23, 2015, 12:43 PM

I can’t wait for this! I am really excited to see the type of ghosts they use and if there is any new parts. Also we now have the descriptions for Bionicle.

    • admin October 23, 2015, 12:51 PM

Yeah, I’m really looking forward to pictures too. As far as the ghosts, that is just my speculation, but it would make sense. 😀

  • Hippie-Hudson October 23, 2015, 1:14 PM

I also have the same issue of running out of space, I use the ikea book shelving unit which houses all my vinyl records with a modular setup on top.. its getting crowded. My girlfriend always gives me a look when I mention new lego sets, despite my efforts it’s not her thing. When my sets build up too much dust I break them down and put them in a bucket of water, once dried I rebuild them. I find this the best way to enjoy the set all over again.

Can’t wait for more star wars…. The new trailer gave me goosebumps!

    • admin October 23, 2015, 1:15 PM

Oh, that new SW trailer! I was thinking about posting it here! I don’t know how many times I watched it already! 😀

      • Hippie-Hudson October 23, 2015, 1:51 PM

Oh indeed! I was excited before i saw it but it was controlled excitement. Now I’m just loosing my mind with anticipation.. you should definately post it on here! It was great to see the new vehicles that lego has released this time too.

        • admin October 23, 2015, 1:53 PM

Okay, I will put it on the schedule and post it. It could make a good discussion on the similarities and differences between the movie and the LEGO sets. 😉

          • Hippie-Hudson October 23, 2015, 1:57 PM

Sweet! Looking forward to that 🙂

  • TheBrickLot October 23, 2015, 5:44 PM

We have a picture of some of the CMF 15!
