New LEGO elements in 2016 – Part 1

(Written by BLProductions)

You may recall that towards the end of last year I wrote a series of articles concerning new LEGO elements being made for 2015 LEGO sets (see links at the end of this article). Now that 2015 has almost gone by, it is time to recap. LEGO ended up producing over 177 new part-molds for the year, which is a huge amount. So let’s take a look at what’s coming in 2016. There hasn’t been too much in the way of official images just yet, but there’s been enough for me to find quite a few unfamiliar pieces. 🙂

#10251 LEGO Creator Brick Bank Front

Which parts do we consider new? Pretty much all brand new elements created by LEGO, with the exceptions of LEGO DUPLO parts, and LEGO minifigure accessories (although I do record certain interesting minifig parts). If the part has just a new print, or is an old part with a new design ID, it doesn’t count. At the time of this writing I have documented 22 elements fitting those criteria, but that is subject to change as we get new images. Below are listed some of the more common new parts.

LEGO Nexo Knights Set 2

Shield Tile 2X3 W. Angles – This is so far the most commonly appearing part next year, as I have found it in 8 colors throughout 9 sets – which makes sense, as this part is used for the LEGO Nexo Knights’ shields. The colors are transparent, transparent-fluorescent-red-orange, translucent-blue, translucent-yellow, translucent-green, black, bright-blue, and silver-metallic. The transparent colors are the power elements used by the Nexo Knights. Of the ten sets the part comes in, seven are from the LEGO Nexo Knights theme, while the other two are the #10251 LEGO Creator Brick Bank and the #76045 LEGO DC Super Heroes Batmobile set.

LEGO Super Heroes Contest Prize

Plate 1X2 Ball / Friction End This is a new type of mini ball-joint (the kind started with LEGO Mixels) that appears in dark-stone-grey. It looks like the part shown here, except with a ball at the end, not a ball-cup. We don’t currently have any pictures of it, but I know that it comes in at least 6 sets next year: five LEGO Mixels from Series 7 & 8 of that theme, and the #30422 LEGO Ninjago polybag.

LEGO Ninjago 2016

Mini Spring Shooter W. 2 Knobs – A hand-held, silver-metallic colored spring-loaded shooter that shoots mini arrows (the arrows are also new parts; they come in translucent-red). It’s the weapon of choice for Nexo Knight Aaron, who uses it in at least two sets of his theme: #70313 LEGO Nexo Knights Moltor’s Lava Launcher, and #70317 LEGO Nexo Knights Fortrex.

LEGO Nexo Knights Picture

Peg 1M W. Nub for Track Tread – This could be the most useful piece being produced next year. Its color is black, and it appears so far only in the #70317 LEGO Nexo Knights Fortrex. It fits into one of the holes on large track treads, and, being made of rubber, creates the friction needed by the tracks to roll on smooth surfaces! Hopefully this part will come in cheaper sets, as it will solve the sliding problems present on many sets, such as the #21303 LEGO Ideas Wall-E.

#21303 LEGO Ideas WALL-E Details

Wall Element 6X2X6 W. 8 Knobs – I’m not entirely sure about the dimensions of this piece, but it is rather large. It can so far only be seen in earth-(dark)-blue in the #70317 LEGO Nexo Knights Fortrex. I believe this part is being used in other LEGO Nexo Knights sets as well, which is good, since such a large element should not be used just once.

LEGO Nexo Knights Set 2

Pyramid 1X1X2/3 – This is a nice little decorative part that could be useful for those who build their own creations. It appears in four colors: silver-metallic, warm-gold, translucent-orange, and Translucent-florescent-red-orange. You can find it in at least 8 LEGO Nexo Knights sets, especially in the #70316 Jestro’s Evil Mobile, where the part appears in abundance.

LEGO Nexo Knights Set 1

Brick 4X4 W. Double Slope Point – This is the last part I will cover today. It has a very interesting shape, as it ends with a sharp point that fits between two studs – unlike most LEGO elements produced that end with one or two studs’ thickness. It can be found in earth-blue, silver-metallic, and dark-brown, in six LEGO Nexo Knights sets.

#70316 LEGO Nexo Knights

As you can see, most of the parts here appear exclusively in the LEGO Nexo Knights sets. Indeed, 12 of the 22 parts I’ve found so far come in at least one LEGO Nexo Knights set. And I haven’t even begin to count the numerous new minifig accessories being produced for LEGO Nexo Knights. It seems LEGO is putting immense effort into this new theme. Since those sets – as well as all the others mentioned in the article – won’t be out until January, you can check all the current new sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

Awesome listing and of course there is a ton of new parts for Bionicle, Ninjago, and many other themes. I absolutely love those smaller spring shooter gun thing and the new style of “big-fig” (like Axel). Also Admin yesterday I got 2000 visits to my website!

    • admin November 19, 2015, 10:50 PM

That’s awesome! Make sure they are legit visitors though. There is a fresh wave of hackers and spammers going around right now, so it is important to regularly check the quality of your traffic. 🙂

I have a pretty good spam firewall for my whole website and that day I posted some interesting stuff.

        • admin November 20, 2015, 10:59 AM

That’s good. Always keep your server safe. There are lots of badguys out there who want to get to it.

          • TheBrickLot November 20, 2015, 1:06 PM

Tell me about it, when I get the emails alearting me it’s like just blocked 1476 spam attacks. 🙄

            • admin November 20, 2015, 1:21 PM

Yeah, Russia, Ukraine, China and the Netherlands are the worst! 🙁

              • Håkan November 20, 2015, 4:49 PM

                The Netherlands?

                I wouldn’t have expected that…

                • admin November 20, 2015, 5:04 PM

From the Netherlands it is actually more hackers than spammers. From my research it seems like Ukrainian and Russian hackers often use servers from either Germany or The Netherlands to attack others. My guess is that because most webmasters are already blocking Russia and Ukraine, so the hackers are trying to get around the bans. People are more hesitant to block Germany and the Netherlands because there are a lot of legitimate visitors from there. But fortunately the hackers tend to use certain IP ranges, but still, as a webmaster you end up blocking real visitors along with the badguys. I feel bad for good people in Easter Europe because they likely have no access to most of the internet as they are located in a dirty IP range. It is a constant battle… 🙁

Considering their government, I’d believe they would have some trouble anyway…

  • BLProductions November 19, 2015, 2:43 PM

I’m glad that all those sets LEGO added to their server yesterday didn’t come with any new parts. On the flip side of that I wish LEGO had posted more set images, regardless of new parts.
Anyways, thanks for fixing up the article, admin. 🙂 Perhaps you could change the picture of the Mixels to the pic for the Ninjago polybag: http://brickset.com/sets/30422-1/{-} ? It’s on Brickset, so I suppose it’s okay to post. I don’t know about Part 2 yet, I may have to wait a few weeks, since there still aren’t many images. 😕

    • TheBrickLot November 19, 2015, 4:23 PM

I have a bunch of pre-production images, but I’m not supposed to disclose them I suppose I could tell you what they are.

    • admin November 19, 2015, 10:51 PM

Sure, I could do that as far as the Ninjago image. I don’t have time right now, but I made a note to myself. Yeah, we can wait until we get more pictures. It is better to have images of the parts we are talking about. 🙂

      • Håkan November 20, 2015, 8:47 AM

Yeah, clearer images might be nice… Or possibly images edited so the new parts are circled with red circles or something…

I’m awaiting a feature of Nexo Knights on newelementary.com by its official release…

        • admin November 20, 2015, 9:31 AM

Once the sets are released, or at least LEGO officially adds the images to their website, it is of course much easier to talk about the new elements. However it is worth mentioning them now as well because then we know what to look forward to. 🙂

        • BLProductions November 20, 2015, 1:22 PM

I actually have pictures of almost every part I’ve found so far. I got most of them during that big leak there was last month, but they were too blurry or bad-quality to use for this article once I cropped them. So I just supplied set images. When we get better quality images, I can crop them down to the part, and if they’re not blurry, include them in my next article. Right now the only parts not in this article that we have a good image of are the panels on the back of the 42045 Hydroplane Racer. 😉

You know, I’ve been talking with a friend about the front of the Brick Bank regarding a possible new piece.

Between the windows there are pillars with ingot tiles flush on the face of the bricks. Given their position we were thinking that might be some 1x2x2 modified bricks with 4 studs on their face, but we are not sure.

    • admin November 20, 2015, 9:34 AM

Hm… that’s interesting… what do you think BLProductions?

    • BLProductions November 20, 2015, 1:14 PM

Hm… I see what you are talking about. Looking at the pillars, it’s possible that’s a new piece, but it would have to be 1x2x1 2/3 with 4 knobs; the two ingots are on their sides, and 1-and-2/3 studs in height is equal to 2 studs in width. But perhaps it’s not a new part, and the ingots are on 2×2 Bricks, which are on a SNOT scaffolding on the building’s inside. I can’t verify that, however, because there are no pictures of the inside of the walls. I think we will have to wait until LEGO sends out review copies, and people post more videos and pictures. Any new pieces should be identified that way as well.
I was also looking at the corner pillar, and I think those are built using SNOT bricks on SNOT bricks. I built something like that with the ingots in line on LDD, but it doesn’t look very good or secure from the back view…. Here again, we need more pictures. 😕
