LEGO Minecraft Fortress & Skin Packs review

Three new LEGO Minecraft sets were released this month, including the #21127 LEGO Minecraft The Fortress, and two LEGO Minecraft Skin Packs. All three sets are quite interesting, so let’s take a closer look. 🙂

Even if you are not familiar or not interested in Minecraft, the LEGO Minecraft sets are worth paying attention to, because of a couple of very important features. First, all LEGO Minecraft sets are made up of large amounts of standard LEGO bricks – they are basically LEGO brick tubs in earth-tone colors. Secondly, the LEGO Minecraft sets are fully modular, with several different configurations included in the instruction booklets, with further encouragement to free-build your own layouts. Both of these features have been requested by LEGO fans for a long time, and LEGO Minecraft definitely delivers in this regard.

The #21127 LEGO Minecraft The Fortress, is the second largest LEGO Minecraft set released to date, after the #21128 LEGO Minecraft the Village. While on the main picture you only see one layout, the set is actually made up of over twenty sub-assemblies that you can arrange and rearrange in several different ways (the instructions include three alternate configurations). As you will see in the video-review by JANGBRiCKS, this is a quite substantial set with a lot of parts, minifigures, and the first LEGO Minecraft horse! 😀

The two new LEGO Minecraft Skin Packs are also quite exciting, as this is the first time we get unique Minecraft characters in small packages. The packs are $14.99 each. In the video-review below you can see all eight characters in more detail.

The LEGO Minecraft The Fortress is a very solid set with excellent features. As I mentioned at the beginning, even if you are not a Minecraft fan, you may find it interesting just for the parts, minifigures and accessories. And the LEGO Minecraft Skin Packs are an excellent way to expand your LEGO Minecraft universe. LEGO Minecraft continues to be a very strong theme with a collection of great sets. You can find them all under the LEGO Minecraft section of the Online LEGO Shop.

I really like the modular design, and the skin packs are great! It seems like LEGO is adding alternate builds and modularity to more and more sets.

Yes, looks like LEGO took seriously the feedback that people want more alternate builds. The Creator, Minecraft, and Technic sets are the best examples, but they have been sneaking in to other themes too. Good times. 🙂
