First wave of 2017 LEGO sets available now!

The holiday shopping season is in full swing, with some really good deals for LEGO and other items. Even for non-holiday related shopping this is one of the best times to look around, as pretty much everything is on sale. We have already discussed the various specials for LEGO fans (see links at the end of this post), however I wanted to bring to your attention that now a good number of the 2017 LEGO sets are also available, in case you were hoping to get them as gifts for Christmas. ๐Ÿ™‚

โžก 2017 LEGO BATMAN MOVIE SETS AVAILABLE NOW: Four of The LEGO Batman Movie related sets have been released; the #70901 LEGO Batman Movie Mr. Freeze Ice Attack, the #70905 LEGO Batman Movie The Batmobile, the #70906 LEGO Batman Movie The Joker Notorious Lowrider, and the #70909 LEGO Batman Movie Batcave Break-In. We will be reviewing all the sets soon, but in the meantime I will just say that I have built several of the sets already, and they are very fun. You can find them under The LEGO Batman Movie section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก 2017 LEGO DC SUPER HERO GIRLS SETS AVAILABLE NOW: DC Super Hero Girls is a brand new LEGO theme, based on the DC Comics franchise of the same name that was launched last year. Classic super hero characters are back in high school, dealing with the awkwardness of growing up – with the added stress of having superpowers. As this is a theme mostly targeting young girls, the LEGO sets feature mini-dolls. Three sets are available: the #41230 LEGO Super Hero Girls Batgirl Batjet Chase, the #41231 LEGO Super Hero Girls Harley Quinn to the Rescue, and the #41232 LEGO Super Hero Girls High School. The mini-dolls in this series are really well designed, and I’m planning to collect them all. And the sets themselves look fine too. You can find them under the LEGO DC Super Hero Girls section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก 2017 LEGO DISNEY MOANA SETS AVAILABLE NOW: The new Disney film, Moana, is commemorated in two LEGO sets; the #41149 LEGO Disney Moana’s Island Adventure, and the #41150 LEGO Disney Moana’s Ocean Voyage. You can find them both under the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก 2017 LEGO TECHNIC SETS AVAILABLE NOW: The first wave of 2017 LEGO Technic sets are also now available. The #42057 LEGO Technic Ultralight Helicopter, and the #42060 LEGO Technic Roadwork Crew are both good introductions to building with LEGO Technic pieces. The #42058 LEGO Technic Stunt Bike, and the #42059 LEGO Technic Stunt Truck are the latest in the series of LEGO Technic racing vehicles will pull-back motors. I have been collecting these sets from the time they were first introduced back in 2013. The two sets released each year can also be combined into a larger model. The pull-back motors are very strong, and racing these vehicles is super fun. This year’s racers are a bit smaller, but they come with a ramp! You can find all four sets under the LEGO Technic section of the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก 2017 LEGO JUNIORS SETS AVAILABLE NOW: Three of the 2017 LEGO Juniors sets are available; the #10734 LEGO Juniors Demolition Site, the #10735 LEGO Juniors Police Truck Chase, and the #10740 LEGO Juniors Fire Patrol Suitcase. While these sets are geared towards young children who are transitioning from LEGO DUPLO to regular LEGO, they are also interesting for older LEGO fans because of the nicely printed pieces (no stickers ever in LEGO Juniors sets). You can find them under the LEGO Juniors section of the Online LEGO Shop.

As you can see, there is a good selection of 2017 LEGO sets available already, so if you want to get them before the end of the year, here is your chance. The other 2017 sets will be available on January 1st. What do you think? Are you going to get any of the 2017 sets now, or wait until next year? Which new sets do you like the most? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I got the city pizza van. ( It looked to good to pass up.) I am on the hunt for any of the Rogue one Star Wars 2nd wave sets trickling in on some store shelves ( mainly Toys ‘r us ) it never fails how they put things out early when Toy’r us are not allowed to .

    • Icepacklady November 28, 2016, 12:39 PM

I saw the Lego City Pizza Van somewhere… Toys R Us maybe? And I was surprised it was out already. I def want that and some of the others but Christmas list is getting long and I can’t have it ALL right now! I have to leave some $ in the bank account for my husband’s presents too.

      • admin November 28, 2016, 1:03 PM

Yeah, the Pizza Van is like everyone’s favorite. Looks like LEGO is really into Pizza next year because there are a number of Pizza related sets. There is the Pizza Van, than there is a pizza delivery motorcycle in The LEGO Batman Movie sets, then there is the Friends Pizza place… we are going to get lots of pizza pieces! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • admin November 28, 2016, 12:58 PM

Yeah, TRU is a strange place… I guess they sell enough sets that LEGO can’t just slap them on the hand. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • PrashBricks November 28, 2016, 11:57 AM

So sad, there not there in europe yet, though I can get the arctic base camp for โ‚ฌ60,-, a deal that I can not pass.

    • admin November 28, 2016, 1:00 PM

I was told by my contact at LEGO that Europe and the rest of the world will get the 2017 sets in January. I guess LEGO knows that Americans are chronically impatient. ๐Ÿ™„

As I mentioned in my other comment, the Arctic Basecamp is one of my favorite sets, so I’m sure you will be very happy with that one too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Legostuff71 November 28, 2016, 3:05 PM

I have it to. It is very worth it. I wasn’t very big on the Volcano theme . It seemed so, predictable ( first cold Arctic theme , now hot volcano theme).

    • admin November 28, 2016, 8:21 PM

I wonder what will be the next! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Legostuff71 November 28, 2016, 9:05 PM

I have no idea. But I am looking foreword to it what ever LEGO comes up with. Because as much as some sets don’t click with me their are those sets that do. I thinking space pirates just like NEXO knights . lol.

    • admin November 28, 2016, 9:16 PM

I take some Space Pirates, please! And you are right, I’m like that too; I have some ideas about what I would like, but I also like to have LEGO surprise me. Sometimes a new theme clicks with me instantly, others don’t, but there is always plenty to choose from. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Legostuff71 November 28, 2016, 10:42 PM

I think sometimes if LEGO doesn’t come up with a theme we want or hope for , it’s up to us to create it our selves . I mean that’s the wonder and magic of LEGO. To this day I amazed that the LEGO brick has come along ways from the very beginning to today. I am speechless ( or should I texts less .)

    • admin November 29, 2016, 11:35 AM

Oh, yes, of course, it is part of the fun to create our own themes. However it is also nice to see what LEGO creates, because it can be a springboard or inspiration for our own creations. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Legostuff71 November 29, 2016, 3:51 PM

I believe I said the same thing about using sets as launching pads to make it big and or better . If the set seems incomplete . ( it was in my comments in the past a couple a times .) I agree.

  • BLProductions November 29, 2016, 7:29 PM

My favorites of this wave are the Batmobile, Batcave, and Mighty Dinosaurs. I don’t know which TLBM set to get, but I’ll probably pick up 31058 in March. I also like the City Buggy and Pizza Van, but I’ll probably pass on those. Now I wonder, will LEGO upload parts lists for these sets, or will I have to wait until January? And, will the lists be complete, or like 2016, where few new parts were added until June. That was annoying. ๐Ÿ˜•
Also, off-topic: http://brickset.com/article/24920/building-with-stud-io It looks like a good alternative to LDD, but I’ll only be able to get it if it’s free. Additionally, I’m more familiar with LEGO’s naming strategies than Bricklink’s; Bricklink tends to use names that I don’t, which would make it hard for me to find things. Also, LDD’s paint/print tool is superior to the Stud.io method, although it is lacking in selection. The rotation function on Stud.io is interesting and clearer than LDD’s, but LDD’s works fine – you just need to pay attention to what joint it selects. Finally, hopefully the full release won’t tax processors so much, as LDD already eats 1% a minute on my laptop. There’s my thoughts, based on the Brickset analysis. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • admin November 29, 2016, 8:58 PM

Oh! I’m very excited about that software! I love LDD, and will probably use it until it dies, but it is nice to have an alternative in the works. Based on the review it seems that it is working well. I also really like the integration with the BrickLink database and the basic rendering effects. I’m fairly certain that it is going to be a free program. BrickLink will make its money by people ordering parts from the site for their projects. Smart. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • BLProductions November 29, 2016, 10:37 PM

Yeah, the integration with the Bricklink database is really helpful, especially in determining the availability of parts. The rendering capability is neat, too, and useful for me since I don’t currently have a rendering program (and probably won’t for some time). You make a good point about the cost of the program, it seems like a good choice to make it free. ๐Ÿ™‚
Also, I did build my Titanium Ninja Tumbler on Sunday, and you wanted to hear my thoughts on it, so I’ll do a quick review:
The minifigures have good printing, but aren’t that interesting to me (although now my Cryptor has some Nindroids to command). The Tumbler itself looks very cool (no pun intended), and my Arctic Batman stole and drove it around before Zane could. Those two are not friends. ๐Ÿ˜• The springy-function is a bit wobbly, and could be modded a little, but otherwise works well. The back doesn’t look very good, even with everything on: it could have used a few more white parts. For such a solid model, it’s surprisingly parts-light, but that was probably because of the price point. Overall, it’s a great set, and probably one of my favorite of my Ninjago sets. ๐Ÿ˜€

        • admin November 29, 2016, 10:59 PM

Yeah, the back section of the Ninja Tumbler is a bit barebones, but it can be adjusted. I’m glad you had a chance to build it. It is definitely a fun set! Speaking of Batman, I’m a tad disappointed with the new utility belt. I don’t know it’s because of the brightness of the yellow or what, but it just doesn’t have much definition. In fact, I have put it on upside down twice because I just couldn’t make out the details. I hope it will look better in other colors.

          • BLProductions November 30, 2016, 11:49 AM

Hm, looking at the utility belt piece on Batman (in 70905), it does look a little undefined. You would have to look carefully to see which way is up. Maybe the part could benefit from some printing on it? Like buckles or black highlights on the front and back?
I note that Catman (the CMF) and Catwoman (from 70902) have a different utility belt piece that has three bumps in the center rather than a single plate. Those look little better. Although, to be honest, I like the printed belts better than the special molded piece.

            • admin November 30, 2016, 12:30 PM

Hm… yeah, printing may help. Like they could print the flaps on the pouches a different color. Catman and Catwoman actually have the same utility belt as Batman, but it is turned around. Batman has the same one, but the side with the ridges in the middle are on his back. ๐Ÿ˜‰
