The LEGO Batman Movie books from DK

With The LEGO Batman Movie coming out in just a few days there is a lot of excitement both amongst LEGO fans and the general public. Based on what I have heard from people who had the fortune to see the film already at various pre-screening events, it is going to be just as fun and entertaining as The LEGO Movie, but with Batman as the main character. To play out the stories in the movie, The LEGO Batman Movie sets and The LEGO Batman Movie Collectible Minifigures are already available, and we have discussed these previously (see links at the end of this post). Today we will look at The LEGO Batman Movie related books released by DK Publishing. 🙂

DK Publishing is well known for their beautiful books related to various LEGO themes. For The LEGO Batman Movie they are offering five books; a guide to the characters, vehicles and locations of the movie, a sticker collection, a couple of story books for younger readers, and a behind-the-scenes look at how the movie was made.

THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE: THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE: This 60+ page book covers the characters, vehicles and locations from the film with lots of interesting little details. And it also features most of The LEGO Batman Movie sets and Collectible Minifigures. The pictures are big and beautiful, with easy-to-read text spread around the pages. It is also worth noting that the 2017 sets are also featured in the book. Here is the official description: The perfect companion to LEGO Batman’s first solo movie, The LEGO Batman Movie: The Essential Guide showcases the full range of exciting LEGO Batman sets and minifigures that are released to tie in with the film’s launch. Heroes, villains, vehicles, and locations are all explored in classic DK style, with lively and informative nonfiction text to annotate and expand upon lavish reference images of LEGO Batman sets and scenes from the movie. Hardcover. 64 pages. Price: $12.99 – BUY ON AMAZON

ULTIMATE STICKER COLLECTION: THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE: With over 1000 stickers, this is one big and heavy sticker book! While it may not be so interesting to adult LEGO fans, I think kids would really enjoy it. Like in previous sticker LEGO books by DK Publishing, the first part of the book includes pages with stories where some of the stickers can be applied, and the rest of the book is full of stickers. Here is the official description: Combining fun and informative captions with a range of innovative and engrossing sticker activities, Ultimate Sticker Collection: The LEGO Batman Movie is a must-have for all LEGO Batman fans. It showcases many of the exciting LEGO Batman sets and minifigures that are being released to tie in with Batman’s first solo movie in February 2017. Paperback. 96 pages. Price: $12.99 – BUY ON AMAZON

THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE: THE MAKING OF THE MOVIE: Beautifully illustrated with stunning concept artwork, the book tells the story of how The LEGO Batman Movie was made. Readers are invited to explore each development stage of the movie – from initial ideas, scripts and storyboards to developing characters, creating the landscapes brick by brick and recording the dialogue. This book would be enjoyable both by kids and adults (recommended age is 12+). Here is the official description: Journey beyond the on-screen world of The LEGO Batman Movie and get an inside look at how the animated movie was created with The LEGO Batman Movie: The Making of the Movie. Packed with stunning concept art, sketches, artwork, inspiration, and LEGO builds, the book tells the fascinating story of how The LEGO Batman Movie was made. Hardcover. 200 pages. Price: $24.99 – BUY ON AMAZON

DK READERS LEVEL 1: THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE: TEAM BATMAN: This book is part of DK’s reading program, available in four levels to help every child progress and become a confident reader. Level 1 is aimed at children aged 4+ who are learning to read with support. Team Batman features large text, limited vocabulary and repetition to engage young fans and build their literary skills. And of course the book is also full of beautiful images. Here is the official description: In DK Readers L1: The LEGO Batman Movie: Team Batman, find out about the minifigures, vehicles, and locations of LEGO Batman, while learning to read with support. Perfect for 3–5 year olds learning to read, Level 1 titles contain short, simple sentences with an emphasis on frequently used words. Crisp photographic images with labels provide visual clues to introduce and reinforce vocabulary. Paperback. 24 pages. Price: $3.99 – BUY ON AMAZON

DK READERS LEVEL 2: THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE: RISE OF THE ROGUES: Just like the previous book, this one is also part of DK’s reading program, but for children aged 5+ who are beginning to read independently. Rise of the Rogues follows the adventures of Batman and Robin as they stop The Joker from spreading havoc across Gotham City. There is also a fun quiz at the back of the book, and some very helpful guidance to parents about how to use DK’s reading program. Here is the official description: In DK Readers L2: The LEGO Batman Movie: Rise of the Rogues, find out about the minifigures, vehicles, and locations of LEGO Batman, while beginning to read. Perfect for 5–7 year olds beginning to read fluently with support, Level 2 titles contain carefully selected photographic images to complement the text, providing strong visual clues to build vocabulary and confidence. Paperback. 48 pages. Price: $3.99 – BUY ON AMAZON

For teen and adult LEGO fans I would recommend The LEGO Batman Movie: The Essential Guide and The Making of the Movie. For children all the books can be enjoyable depending on their interest and age. The books should be available at most bookstores, and you can also get them on Amazon with a 25% discount (at the time of this writing).

Can’t wait for the movie! I hope it will be as good as the Lego Movie or even better! I think I will see the movie first, and if it is good I will pick up the Essential Guide. Or should I get the book before the movie?

You can certainly enjoy the movie without needing the guide, however if you really liked it, it is a nice reminder. So yeah, it would be perfectly fine to get it after you have seen the film. 🙂

I have seen the Essential Guide at the bookstore. It looked great, but isn’t it thinner than previous guides?

I kind of noted that too. I don’t have any of the previous guides as I gave them away as gifts, but I also sort of remember them being thicker (more pages). It’s still pretty cool though, and has all the info you would need.
