LEGO Milano extra large & upgraded version

The Milano is the most iconic spacecraft used by the Guardians of the Galaxy, with the elegant and imposing shape of a bird of prey. The ship is also quite colorful, making it a perfect medium to recreate in LEGO. LEGO themselves released two versions of the Milano; the first one in the #76021 LEGO The Milano Spaceship Rescue in 2014, and the second one in the #76081 LEGO The Milano vs. The Abilisk in 2017. 🙂

The earlier LEGO version of the Milano is fairly large (15″ wide and 9″ long), with a blue and yellow color-scheme, and nicely designed wingtips. The second version of the Milano is much smaller (14″ wide and 7″ long), with a blue and orange color-scheme. The windshield on this second ship is much more accurate, however the model is just too small to be a satisfying representation of this iconic vehicle.

Since the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 film was released, LEGO fan Tyler Clites has been keeping busy making LEGO models related to the movie. A week ago, I shared with your his brick-built Guardians of the Galaxy characters (see: Build LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy Figures), and today, I will show you his own LEGO version of the Milano (see below).

Tyler felt that neither of the LEGO models were large enough or detailed enough to give justice to this beautiful ship. So, he made his own version that is two feet wide, a foot long, uses about 3,000 pieces, and has a full interior. In the video below, published by The Brick Show, Tyler shows the details of his ship, and also reveals some of the very unique building techniques he used to achieve the interesting shapes and curves.

Really nicely done, isn’t it? I particularly like the front “beak” section, which is done with using some clever techniques, and is much more accurate than either of the official LEGO versions. I also like the use of all those silvery and gray elements that add a lot of nice mechanical details. The interior looks excellent as well, especially with that window at the back.

Tyler does not share building instructions for this model, however if you watch the video carefully, and pay attention to the details, you should be able to recreate it fairly accurately, if you choose to. If you do plan to make your own version, I recommend that you pick up the #76081 LEGO The Milano vs. The Abilisk set, as it will give you a good bulk of the needed elements (including the unique windshield piece), plus currently you will also get a mini version of the Milano with your purchase. The set is available under the LEGO Marvel section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Do you have either or both versions of the Milano? Which one do you like better? And how do you like Tyler’s version? Feel free to share your thoughts and discus in the comment section below! 😉

That’s very impressive! Would love to see an official version like this!

Yeah, that would be awesome, but with two versions already out, it is unlikely…

I liked the feathered wings on the original one, but this is much better on the interior and the beak section is genius!

Yeah, the front is really well done.

The downturned beak section is beautiful! LEGO was not able to get that on either of their models.

True. The curves are really well done.

You might want to pick up that canopy on BrickLink. It is a very useful piece. 🙂
