  • Hogwarts Castle measures over 22” (58cm) high, 27” (69cm) wide and 16” (43cm) deep.

This set is absolutely gorgeous! The rockwork, the unique angles of the structures, the intricate decorations, the detailed interior, the accurate representation of the locations from the film, all put this set on the must-have list of Harry Potter fans. And, even if you don’t care for Harry Potter, this is one of the most beautiful (in my opinion, the most beautiful) castle models LEGO ever released.

It is also very interesting that LEGO is using microfigures to populate the set. This is only the second time microfigures are the main characters (the first set was the #76042 LEGO Super Heroes Shield Helicarrier). Basically, microfigures allow a whole new building-scale, which is especially useful for very large structures. Instead of shrinking and simplifying the original setting to make the set reasonably sized and priced, LEGO designers can recreate a lot larger scene and include a lot more details by using microfigures. Too bad this technique wasn’t used in the LEGO Lord of the Rings collection! In the video below, JANGBRiCKS shows some other details and angles of the set.

The #71043 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle will be released on September 1st, with early access to LEGO VIP members on August 15th. Prices are as follows: US $399.99 – CA $499.99 – DE 399.99€ – UK £349.99 – FR 419.99€ – DK 3499DK (Euro pricing varies by country). The set is already listed (along with all the other LEGO Harry Potter sets) at the LEGO Harry Potter section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle? Is it going on your wish list? And what do you think of the microfigure scale of the buildings? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

So beautiful!!!! I like it even better than the Disney castle!

This is gorgeous, and I’d LOVE to build it, but unfortunately it is out of my price range, and we’ve run out of room for displays 🙁 This is one that is far too awesome to build then dismantle for parts.

    • Rob July 26, 2018, 1:35 PM

I agree! Once a set reaches a certain price, I just can’t see taking it apart and tossing it into the parts bin.

  • Tom July 26, 2018, 1:08 PM

Finally a set I actually want to buy this year. Now to justify the price….

  • jabber-baby-wocky July 26, 2018, 1:10 PM

I really want to get this set! Beautiful! I don’t really care that it’s not minifig scale.

    • TomTom July 26, 2018, 1:17 PM

They could have done like with the earlier HP sets; release several minifig scale sets that interconnects to make the big castle. I still like it, but it’s a little disappointing that it’s not minifig scale.

      • DavidH July 26, 2018, 1:23 PM

It would have been enormous with so much detail. The previous HP sets were much simpler. They could still add some additional sets to the Great Hall and Whomping Willow setup if they want.

        • TomTom July 26, 2018, 1:29 PM

That’s true. They can continue adding to the minifig scale sets and then have Hogwarts Castle as the greatly detailed advanced set. I agree with admin that we should have gotten Lord of the Rings sets like this! Just imagine a Minas Tirith like this!

There was at one point I was hoping Lego would create The Golden Hall in Edoras of Rohan.

Typing that made me feel a bit like a LOTR Nerd. 🙂

            • admin July 27, 2018, 12:34 PM

Ahhh… would have loved that! No shame being a LOTR nerd. That’s the best kind of nerd! 😀

  • Rob July 26, 2018, 1:37 PM

Me at first glance: Dang! I’m definitely not the biggest H.P. fan, but I could see me going for it!

Me at seeing the price. *Hits the brakes.* Well, not saying it’s not worth that price, but /at/ that price… yeah, I’d have to do some serious consideration.

    Looks awesome though! 🙂

    • Rob July 26, 2018, 1:38 PM

I mean I’d have to do some serious thinking.

  • Tony July 26, 2018, 1:46 PM

This set is a must buy. Even more beautiful than the Taj Mahal and the Disney Castle. And you can totally use it as a regular castle too.

  • brickmaster July 26, 2018, 2:06 PM

This is a beautiful display piece! Many large sets are symmetrical, but this is so different. I have no issues with the nanofigures. It’s great to have another scale. I wish they would bring back the Technic figures too, so we can put drivers in Technic cars.

    • Håkan July 26, 2018, 2:22 PM

I think Technic designers and builders would want to avoid adhering to a standard scale, so the Technic figures are unlikely to return in the foreseeable future.

  • SPMom July 26, 2018, 4:46 PM

A very pretty castle! I know the price is great, but shelling out $400 at one time is a little scary. We will have to save up for it. Do you guys know how long it is going to be available?

  • Legostuff14 July 26, 2018, 9:17 PM

I love it how Lego balances sets between kids and adults. There is something for everyone. Look at all the detail that Lego puts in this Hogwarts set. I see why it would be that expensive. I mean if you want something with just about everything in a set it will cost you ( a lot). I think Lego is putting to many very expensive sets in a year. I hope it doesn’t bite them in the tail in the long run or should I say cause people to stop buying the larger sets. I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon. As long as the interest is still so widespread and so crazy. Lego will be o. K.

    • admin July 26, 2018, 10:33 PM

I have been concerned about the number of large sets too, and whether LEGO is overdoing it, but it seems like that their sales numbers are encouraging them to make even more. I’m sure if their sales go down they will change strategies.

While in the past dedicated LEGo fans got the one of two large sets LEGO released a year, now they have to be more selective and just stick with the sets/themes they really want.

It’s actually not a bad idea, as now Technic fans, and Creator fans, and Disney fans, etc. all get one big set per year, so everyone can be happy. 🙂

      • Rob July 27, 2018, 10:24 AM

I’ve been thinking about these larger Lego sets and I wonder with teens and kids having more interest in gaming and stuff like Roblox, texting and social medial if Lego sees more potential sales from AFOL’s than kids and teens. I also say this because my younger sister and her family were staying with us for a good couple weeks or so on Vacation and I was deeply impressed how hard-core addicted her kids were on their X-box games.

        I mean… super hard-core! O.o 🙂

        • admin July 27, 2018, 12:38 PM

LEGO is very cautious to keep a good balance, and that their core audience remains children. After all, they are the next addicted AFOLs. 😉

If AFOLs want to give them money, sure LEGO will produce big sets just for them. But the LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Friends, and LEGO Minecraft lines are enormously popular with kids, and that’s where the real growth and sales happen. Kids just don’t spend time yacking on the internet as much as adults do, so it seems like all the LEGO news is about the big sets. 😀

          • Rob July 27, 2018, 10:28 PM

That’s good to know. We want our favorite building toy company to last for a long time. I do worry sometimes…

            • admin July 28, 2018, 10:51 PM

In business, there is always room to worry about something. 😀

  • Melanie July 26, 2018, 9:53 PM

Wow! I’ve been wondering what to use my VIP points towards. Maybe this? But like many of you, where would I put this!?

    • admin July 26, 2018, 10:35 PM

Yeah, this is a big set for sure. However, it is actually more shelf-friendly than, for example, the UCS Falcon or the Roller Coaster, as the back is open and could be pushed against a wall. At least that’s my plan. 😀

  • Legostuff14 July 27, 2018, 12:03 AM

The other question is backordered or sold out situations that may or may not discourage fans from buying the larger sets. The ucs falcon was a bit of a disaster in that part. I guess time will tell. I mean as long as the want is still there it will be fine.( I hope). At any rate, I can’t afford it . So kudos to those who get it. Heck . I wish I can get the death star. That’s not going to happen.

    • admin July 27, 2018, 12:31 PM

Yes, they really have to handle their supply better. Currently, all the HP sets are out of stock, and you can’t even backorder them. 🙁

As far as the Death Star, I would keep an eye on the price of the original set. It will likely decrease gradually due to the new set being out. The sets are basically identical. The only difference is the minifigs. And you can always update those from cheap sets.

  • S.P.M. July 27, 2018, 12:49 AM

so beautyful! Sure my child will like this. thank for sharing with us!

  • jjava August 14, 2018, 3:14 PM

I wasn’t sold on the set until I saw Lego’s official designer video (you may want to add that to your post). Initially I wasn’t thrilled on the price (yes I know, it is 6000+ pieces) and the fact that it is microfigures. But after seeing the video and the size of that castle, I change my mind. I still would have preferred a minifigures version but I can imagine the size of the resulting castle. (I am willing to pay more for it.)

So yes, I eagerly awaits to put in my order.

    • admin August 14, 2018, 5:42 PM

We will be talking about the set more tomorrow (including the designer video), as it will be available for VIPs. It really is a beautiful castle! 🙂
