LEGO Double VIP Points, free set & more!

LEGO is running a couple of specials right now that weren’t announced at the beginning of the month when we talked about the November 2018 – New LEGO Sets & Promotions, so I wanted to make sure you are aware of them. 🙂

FREE LEGO HARRY POTTER DIAGON ALLEY SET: From now until November 21st, you will get a free #40289 LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley set with purchases of $99 or more. With 374 pieces, this set is quite substantial, depicting a micro-scale version of some of the shops at Diagon Alley, including Gringotts Wizarding Bank, Ollivanders, Flourish & Blotts, Quality Quidditch Supplies, and Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. The set also includes an exclusive Mr. Garrick Ollivander minifigure. Another exclusive in this set is the six 2×4 printed tiles with cobblestone pattern. These are extremely useful in LEGO town and castle creations. The parts-selection is also very nice with lots of decorative small parts and interesting colors. This is one of the nicest free-with-purchase sets we got in a while, so if you are interested, visit the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO DOUBLE VIP POINTS: While the storewide Double VIP Points offer is now over, LEGO continues to offer Double VIP Points on two of the most desirable sets for the holiday season; the #71043 LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle, and the #10263 LEGO Winter Village Fire Station. This offer is valid during the entire month of November at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO OVERWATCH SETS PREORDER: To help with managing inventory, LEGO has been offering pre-sales on a couple of the most desirable new sets. This strategy seems to be working well for them, so now they are offering pre-sales on an entire new theme, LEGO Overwatch. This is the longest time period for a pre-sale, as the sets won’t be available until January. Still, by ordering them now, you can make sure you are one of the first people to receive them. The LEGO Overwatch theme includes six sets; the #75970 LEGO Overwatch Tracer vs. Widowmaker, the #75971 LEGO Overwatch Hanzo vs. Genji, the #75972 LEGO Overwatch Dorado Showdown, the #75973 LEGO Overwatch D.Va & Reinhardt, the #75974 LEGO Overwatch Bastion (my favorite!), and the #75975 LEGO Overwatch Watchpoint: Gibraltar. The sets seem to be pretty basic, but the minifigures are amazing! You can find them at the LEGO Overwatch section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO IDEAS POP-UP BOOK AVAILABLE: Also, remember that the beautiful #21315 LEGO Ideas Pop-Up Book is now available! We have talked about this set extensively including modifications and upgrades by the original creator of the set (see links at the end of this post), so here I will only copy the official description for your reference: Build, play and display the classic fairy tales Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk with the #21315 LEGO Ideas Pop-up Book! This first-ever buildable pop-up book made from LEGO bricks opens to reveal the famous scene of grandmother’s forest cottage featuring opening door, bed and kitchen area. Recreate the scene when Little Red Riding Hood meets the wolf, or swap out grandmother’s cottage for the scene of the giant’s castle in the clouds. This collectible toy features enough bricks to build both scenes, or you can even build a scene of your own and makes a perfect creative gift. This LEGO set includes a booklet with a short history of pop-up books, a condensed history of each fairy tale in the set, as well as information about its fan designers and LEGO designers. Includes 4 new-for-November-2018 LEGO minifigures: Little Red Riding Hood, Grandmother, the Wolf, and the Giant. Also includes 1 new-for-November-2018 microfigure: Jack. Pop-up book measures over 7” (20cm) long and 5” (13cm) wide when closed, and over 11” (28cm) wide when open. 859 pieces. Price: $69.99 – BUY HERE

As we discussed previously, the LEGO Holiday Gift Shop is now open, which is a great place to find everything from small stocking stuffers and holiday-themed sets, to some of the most popular and sought after exclusives. Sets are organized into various categories, so it’s easy to find gifts for LEGO fans with different building styles and interests. You can access the LEGO Holiday Gift Shop through the homepage of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Are you planning to take advantage of the free gift offer, the Double VIP Points, or the pre-order of the LEGO Overwatch sets? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 🙂

A couple a weeks ago I managed to find a target exclusive set ( the donut / coffee shop). Because it’s an exclusive set, part of me says open it and use it for my city. The other part says keep it in the package because it doesn’t happen often for target to have an exclusive set. I normally don’t keep thing in there boxes ( just certain Lego sets you get when you spend a lot of money and earn it). So, what would you do?🤔

    • TomTom November 10, 2018, 2:06 PM

Open it! The set is not really that special, and it’s full of nice accessories. There really is no point of keeping packages sealed, unless it’s something like Mr. Gold or the gold C-3PO.

You could check the resale value of the set on ebay and bricklink. If it is less than double the price you got it for, just open it. It’s not worth keeping it boxed up.

You could also get a second set and keep one open and the other closed, but in the case of this set, I wouldn’t even bother with that. If you think you like the packaging, just keep the box and flatten it out so it doesn’t take up too much space.

Wow, those printed tiles in the Diagon Alley set are so cool! Is this the only set they come in? Did lego ever make exclusive prints for a freebie?

    • TomTom November 10, 2018, 6:05 PM

Maybe the tiles will come in some 2019 sets, so they decided to include some here. Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense to make printed tiles just for a freebie.

      • admin November 10, 2018, 8:59 PM

        That’s a possibility… and a hope. 😀

  • Legostuff14 November 10, 2018, 5:34 PM

Thanks TomTom and Martin for you’re input and thoughts. I think I’ll open it no matter what . After all, Lego sets are meant to be built not kept in a box. Sadly, I can’t buy any new sets for my self because I have to start thinking about x-mas shopping. O k next question. If you had a choice between the Betrayal at Cloud City or two modular sets. Which one would you want for Christmas? Part of me thinks cloud city but, the more practical part of me thinks two of the modular buildings ( the diner and the brick bank).what’s your thoughts on the matter?

    • LEGOJeff November 10, 2018, 5:59 PM

All three sets you are thinking about for Christmas should be available for at least another year or even more, so you have some time to get all three if you want. So, the question is which one you like the best and want to build first? It seems that you are most attracted to Cloud City, and only want the Modulars for practical reasons. I assume to complete your collection?

      • TomTom November 10, 2018, 6:03 PM

Life is short, get the set that gives you the most pleasure. People die every day from stupid stuff. Get cancer, get hit by a drunk driver, get shot at a music festival. I’m not saying live in fear and start hoarding, but whenever possible – especially when it comes to hobbies – go where your heart pulls you.

  • Legostuff14 November 10, 2018, 8:05 PM

Either way , I’ll be happy. It’s just too many choices out there. If Lego made crappy sets then it would be an easy decision to make. But, they don’t so I’m in trouble. Thanks again. You have been very helpful. Oh, and TomTom nobody has ever died of a Lego overdose. Lol.😁

    • admin November 10, 2018, 8:58 PM

He-he. Maybe we should challenge LEGO, see if they can kill us with too much goodness. I would volunteer. 🙄

  • Legostuff14 November 10, 2018, 10:41 PM

I’ll be the second guinea pig for that test. I know Lego has won The “I’m broke because of them” award. 🤑

    • admin November 11, 2018, 6:18 PM

LOL! I got that award too! 😀

  • DavidH November 11, 2018, 1:41 PM

Was it announced yet what the Black Friday sales are going to be?

    • admin November 11, 2018, 6:18 PM

No, not yet. But we do know about a couple of Christmas freebies coming (we talked about them at the beginning of the month). As far as sales, they usually offer 20-30% off on select sets (usually the ones that are close to retiring).

Here’s a crazy thought I’ve been toying with, if I put star wars and combine it with Jurassic World would that work.? It would be on Endor and have ewoks, wookies and rebels ( I would include the Jurassic park people as rebels) combined with the Empire. Does sound to crazy for it not to work or that it might just be crazy enough to work. Any thoughts ?

    • admin November 11, 2018, 6:16 PM

      Endorsed by theBrickBlogger. 🙄

  • Legostuff14 November 11, 2018, 7:14 PM

Thanks. Now I best put Jurassic world set on the list for x-mas. I’ve hesitant about getting the Jurassic world sets because, I already have dinosaur theme with the traditional color for LEGO minifigures( yellow) and wouldn’t match well with the skin color mini figures. But I also thought you can never have too many dinosaur theme sets ( weather it has skin color or not) .

    • admin November 11, 2018, 7:54 PM

Yeah, the yellow vs. peachy skin minifigs can be a bit clash-y. If there is no skin-toned neckline on the torso, you can always swap out the head and hands though. The dinos are definitely awesome, both in the City sets and the Jurassic sets. I know a lot of people who collect them. 🙂
