LEGO Toy Story 4 Collection Review

Toy Story 4 is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 21s, but the LEGO sets related to the film are already available. The synopsis states that Toy Story 4 takes place some years after Andy gave his toys to Bonnie. Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the toys are faced with a problem when Bonnie creates a new toy from arts and crafts, named Forky. Forky suffers from an existential crisis about being a toy, and the others try to help him understand how to be one. As Bonnie and her family go on a road trip, Forky escapes and Woody goes to save him, becoming separated from the group near a small town. As Buzz and the others try to help find Woody, Woody finds Bo Peep among other toys in the town’s antique shop, and she gives him a new outlook on what being a toy is really about.

The LEGO Toy Story 4 sets are all under the LEGO 4+ line (formerly called LEGO Juniors). This means that the sets are designed to be simple to build, including some large pieces, so children who are just transitioning out of LEGO DUPLO can easily put them together. The characters, however, are regular LEGO minifigs. Another nice feature of LEGO 4+ sets is that all the decorated elements are printed. This can also make them interesting to older LEGO fans who are looking for unique and useful printed parts. There are six sets in the LEGO Toy Story 4 collection, so let’s take a closer look.

#10766 LEGO TOY STORY WOODY & RC: This is the smallest set in the LEGO Toy Story 4 collection. The set is similar to the #7590 LEGO Toy Story Woody & Buzz to the Rescue set from 2010, but there are also some differences. The Toy Story RC character car uses a special starter brick chassis for easy building by young children. Also, notice that the new Woody minifigure has a standard minifig head instead of the special moulds used for the characters in the 2010 LEGO Toy Story sets. This makes the minifig a lot more versatile and easily usable in other settings. And check out the three green army men micro-figures! This is a nice and inexpensive starter set overall. 69 pieces. Price: $9.99 – BUY HERE

#10767 LEGO DUKE CABOOM’S STUNT SHOW: This set features a red and white striped ramp with a gap for cars to jump through, and an adjustable ring of fire with lots of trans-orange element. Two little cars are included, as well as a motorcycle, three stackable cans, and a rinted stunt sign that can be knocked down. Also notice the nicely printed red maple leaf on the motorcycle! The two minifigs are Woody and Duke Caboom. 120 pieces. Price: $19.99 – BUY HERE

#10768 LEGO BUZZ & BO’S PLAYGROUND ADVENTURE: There is so much to like about this set! It features a 2-level playhouse with kitchen area, slide, bridge with movable bushes underneath, climbing wall, bubble window stand, a separate merry-go-round, and a black and white skunk-mobile. (It’s worth noting that that the plant elements are the new sustainable plant-based plastic trees.) The three minifigs are Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep and Gabby Gabby. The colors of the whole set are exceptionally nice, and the two girls are super cute. This is my favorite set in the entire collection! It could easily be used as a playground in any LEGO City setting. 139 pieces. Price: $24.99 – BUY HERE

#10769 LEGO TOY STORY 4 RV VACATION: This is a larger set, so there is a lot more included here. There is an RV that’s not the most realistic, but it’s cute, and has a removable roof, and a full interior with bed, toilet, and sink. A separate section is a park building with picnic table, grill, and lots of little accessories. There is also a printed RV park sign with opening gate. The character lineup is also really good; Jessie and Alien, plus Rex, and adorable little Forky. 178 pieces. Price: $34.99 – BUY HERE

#10770 LEGO BUZZ & WOODY’S CARNIVAL MANIA!: LEGO has been releasing quite a few really good fairground and carnival sets in various themes, and this set is a great addition. Here, we get a carnival shooting game with printed details and rocket elements that can be knocked down with the working cannon. There is also a purple Terrorantulus ride that turns and has adjustable arms, two bumper cars, and an ice cream shop with register, table, and benches. So much to like here! The included characters are Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep, Ducky, and Bunny. I would consider this set just for the printed pieces or even the fully built carnival attractions! 230 pieces. Price: $49.99 – BUY HERE

#10771 LEGO TOY STORY 4 CARNIVAL THRILL COASTER: This is another carnival set featuring a purple roller coaster track with 6 track pieces and 3 coaster cars, a large entrance arch, flags, camera, and spinning turnstile. There is also a separate small cart with ice cream, pizza, and a balloon – an interesting combination. The two minifigs are Buzz Lightyear and Alien. This is an exceptionally good roller coaster starter set. 98 pieces. Price: $19.99 – BUY HERE

All six of the LEGO Toy Story 4 sets have something great to offer. For kids, all the sets are easy to build and come with fun play-features. And for adult LEGO fans, the playground and carnival sets could be great additions to LEGO City and fairground dioramas. The prices are a bit on the high side due to the printed elements and some larger pieces, but I think the value is still good for what you get. You can find all the sets at the LEGO Toy Story section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to Toy Story 4? And what do you think of the LEGO sets related to the film? Are you planning to get any of them? Or did you get them already? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

I love the two girls in the playground set! They are so cute! The set is nice too. I think I might just have to pick that up.

I wasn’t even aware of these sets. Not bad. I like they used standard minifig faces. The carnival sets look especially cool.

Standard heads, anyway. But the decision has apparently been divisive, as far as I’ve understood…

happy long weekend, everyone! are you guys building anything? I pulled out some of my older Ninjago sets.

I was tinkering with the Stranger Things set. 😀

What exactly needed tinkering, if I might be bold to ask?

Nothing. And that’s my complaint about the set. It is too perfect. There is nothing to modify, or expand on. Every little nook and corner is completely filled in. It is an excellent parts-pack though. One of the best I have seen. So, I’m going to take it apart. Will write up a review shortly. 🙂

Cool! I’m building ninjago too! Got a couple of the legacy sets.

I noticed that they have been adding climbing walls to a lot of their sets. I thought that was cool.

Ha-ha! I noticed that too! I love rock climbing, so it’s great to see! 😀

Florida sound like it would be a tough place to find a lot of rock climbing in. If you didn’t live so far away, I’d recommend Utah and/or Colorado, lots of mountains and rocks to climb on out here.

There are probably indoors climbing gyms, if nothing else.

        • admin May 30, 2019, 11:47 AM

We actually have pretty good indoor climbing gyms. Not the same as climbing outside, but I enjoy it very much. I also built a little climbing gym in our house. 🙂
