2020 LEGO Sets with Double VIP Points & More!

As we discussed at the beginning of the month, all the early 2020 LEGO sets are now available at the Online LEGO Shop. If you are interested to find all the new sets in one place head over to the January 2020 – New LEGO Sets & Promotions page.

I also wanted to make sure that you’re aware that LEGO is offering Double VIP Points on two of the new sets this month. The #60246 LEGO City Police Station features a light-brick searchlight and a police car with sound-brick siren, plus a truck, motorcycle, and surveillance drone. And you also get seven minifigs and two dogs (one of them is a brand new mould!). Yes, I know, it’s just another police station, but there is always a new generation of kids who need little law enforcers in their LEGO city. You can find the set at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The other set this month with Double VIP Points is the #75272 LEGO Star Wars Sith TIE Fighter from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker film. It features an opening cockpit and two spring-loaded missiles. There’s also a docking tower for launch, landing, and to display the TIE Fighter. The three minifigs are a First Order TIE Pilot, a Knight of Ren, and Finn. While this is the only LEGO Star Wars set currently offered with Double VIP Points, you might still consider combining it with another new set, the #75273 LEGO Star Wars Poe Dameron’s X-wing Fighter for epic First Order vs. Resistance battles. Both are available at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.

On a related note, I also wanted to mention that the January 2020 LEGO retail catalog is now available online. I know many LEGO fans love to flip through the catalog this time of the year, but if you don’t have a physical copy yet, you can look through it online. I included some of the images from the catalog below, and you can enjoy all 108 pages here: 2020 LEGO RETAIL CATALOG

As you can see, the 2020 LEGO retail catalog includes both some of the 2019 sets as well as the majority of the 2020 sets. There is so much to choose from and save up for! And the catalog also advertises the new LEGO Building Instructions app we talked about the other day, so you may want to give that a spin as well if you haven’t done so already. It seems like retailers are pretty slow putting the new sets on shelves this year, but you can always find the full selection at the new sets section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Which of the new LEGO sets are you most excited about? Did you get any of them already? Feel free to share your thoughts and own reviews in the comment section below!

Perfect timing! Jang also uploaded a video this morning about the catalog. I haven’t gotten mine yet, but I like looking through it. It’s weird, but sometimes you can see details of a set better than on a screen.

Can you link to the video please?

I believe the catalog pictures posted are NOT from the U.S. catalog.

Admin can confirm, but I believe this is the main international English catalog. Local variations are slightly different.

The catalogs tend to look like this in Europe where I find them (with different languages depending on the country). Maybe there are various local standards.

One time I got the European catalogs (they were from Germany), and the paper size was different. Also the arrangement of the pages for different. And of course the language. But other than that, they had the same stuff.

There used to be some differences with some themes appearing on the North American market but not on the European, or vice versa, but perhaps it’s not too common anymore.

I believe that there is a square catalog available in different languages throughout the world — except in the U.S. — where there is only a shop at home catalog. The U.S. Catalog is a different size and tends to have mainly the latest sets only. For example, the city section of the U.S. Catalog is only two pages, with mainly police sets.
We need a complete catalog in the U.S. Like what exists elsewhere!

So where are the posted catalog pages from?

            • Håkan January 10, 2020, 10:44 AM

Lego usually releases their current European catalogs online.

There are at least three types of Catalogs that I’m ware of. The Dealer Catalog, the half-year Consumer Catalog, and the periodic Consumer Catalogs. The Dealer Catalog features sets that are available for dealers to order for their stores. It’s like the Consumer Catalog but more complete, and includes both new and still available older sets. The half-year Consumer Catalogs are available online and also in printed version in some countries. Amongst the periodic Consumer Catalogs the most complete is usually the January one, followed by the one released in the summer.

The Catalog linked here is the half-year English Consumer Catalog. Although it’s available in some countries in a printed version, I don’t think it’s available in the U.S. But we do get regular mailings of the periodic Consumer Catalogs which other countries don’t get, we have the Online LEGO Shop (which many countries don’t have), we have official LEGO stores, and we also have a large number of both online and offline retailers packed with LEGO.

My guess is that LEGO prints Catalogs based on what makes the most sense for a particular market in terms of resources, goals, logistics, consumer behavior, etc. If you’re interested in what physical Catalogs are available where, check the following page on BrickLink. It’s not complete, but it does give you an idea which countries have what type of Catalogs: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogTree.asp?itemType=C

I’m waiting for my catalog too. But, I’m too busy building my Lego sets I got for Christmas. I just started on the resistance Millennium Falcon. I finished with the Space sets last week ( rocket assembly and transport set) very cool I highly recommended it. I am also trying to Pace myself in purchasing Lego sets. Lol! We’ll see how long that lasts.🤤

I went to Target the other day and I was surprised that none of the new sets were on the shelves. They still have last year’s stock. I guess I will have to shop online, but I prefer to see the sets in person. And I also wanted some of the new super heroes minifigs. You can’t buy those individually online.

    • supermario January 9, 2020, 5:05 PM

You can buy the individual figs on bricklink, if you want. Just wanted to let you know.

Did you guys try out the new Ninjago sets? I’m curious if they are worth it and what’s the story/

    • Håkan January 9, 2020, 6:06 PM

The story’s about the main characters making virtual avatars for themselves in an online video game, but real bad guys arrive in the virtual reality to wreak havoc, as far as I’ve understood it.

Yes, that’s basically it. We will talk about it more next week. 🙂
