The recently released #40516 LEGO Everyone is Awesome set has been received with so much enthusiasm and positivity. This small set with the colors of the rainbow was released just in time to celebrate Pride Month (June), and it is also delighting monochrome minifig collectors, LEGO photographers, and customizers.
Presented in a spectrum of colors, this buildable 346-pierce display includes 11 monochrome minifigures against a rainbow backdrop. Each minifigure features its own color scheme with matching hairpiece, showcasing the diversity we see in the world around us.
The designer of the set, Matthew Ashton is quoted in the building instructions as follows: “I wanted to create a model that is a symbol of inclusivity, that celebrates everyone, no matter how they identify or who they love. Everyone is unique, and with a little more love, acceptance and understanding in the world, we can all feel free to be our true AWESOME selves! This model is to show that we care, and that we truly believe ‘Everyone is awesome’! We hope you’ll build this model and display it with pride. It’s a celebration of love – a celebration of you!”
As this is an easy set to build, all the pieces and minifig parts come in six unnumbered bags. Once you assemble the simple 16×22-stud base with white plates, you build up the rainbow-colored stage and background with eleven different colored plates, bricks, and tiles. The colors are black, brown, red, orange, yellow, bright-green, blue, dark-purple, bright-light-blue, white, and dark-pink. The eleven minifigs also come in the same colors.
Once you build the set in the suggested way, there is time for some fun! You can have the minifigs in different poses, you can mix up the colors of both the rainbow and the minifigs in different ways, and of course, you can also use other minifigs and props for the display. You can find hundreds of these modified Everyone is Awesome displays on LEGO forums, picture sharing sites, and social media, but I thought to show you just a few that I liked. You can click on the images to go to the creators’ page, and you can find even more at #rainbowbuildchallenge.

These are really good. I really like the Fabuland one.
OMG. I completely forgot about Clickits. And Fabuland! Those are my favorites. As far as this set, it seems that it angered some people, but most are happy with it.

I didn’t know there was a whole event happening for this set. Really cool. Was it organized by Lego or someone else?
I think it was organized by Fynn and Richard, two of the Lego Masters contestants from season 1. But I don’t follow Instagram closely.
Hmm, are all these brick separators made digitally?
(It also looks like antz-stagram managed to snag part 92081 in red, but maybe it’s an off-brand part… @_@ )

Btw, I recently bought this set and the Daily Bugle on the 2x VIP points drive, although I must restructure a bit to find the space for them…
you make parts of the daily bugle rainbow and put all mifigures in the matching colors with the ones that don’t fit in well on the normal parts and turn the whole thing sideways so it will fit and than call it abstract art
Everyone is awesome, except for Spider-Man, that #@%& menace!
I didn’t know you had such srong feelings about him (@-@)
It was a reference to a certain editor of the aforementioned New York newspaper… 😉
