Batman is Back with Two New Batmobile Tumblers!

Two new LEGO Batman Batmobile Tumbler sets are now available for preorder at the LEGO Batman section of the Online LEGO Shop. One is a re-release of an older set, and the other is a brand-new minifig scale set. Below are the details.

The #76240 LEGO Batman Tumbler is a remake of the #76023 LEGO Batman Tumbler from 2014. The vehicles appear to be almost identical, and both include Batman and the Joker, but their outfits and the minifig stands are different. In addition, the new version of the Tumbler comes with a rotating display stand, which was not included with the original set. The first image below is of the new Tumbler, and the second image is of the older one.

Here is the official description of the set: The impressive build-and-display Tumbler from the Dark Knight trilogy of Batman movies features an opening roof, which provides access to the driver and passenger seats and control panel. Batman and The Joker minifigures are included with a stand. With a sturdy base to display the finished model at its best, your recreation of the Tumbler will provide pleasure long after the hands-on work has been completed. The vehicle measures over 6 in. (16 cm) high, 17 in. (45 cm) long and 9 in. (25 cm) wide. The set comes with 2,049 pieces and the price is $229.99. The release date is November 1st, and you can already pre-order it at the LEGO Batman section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The second new set is the #76239 LEGO Batmobile Scarecrow Showdown.  It is a smaller, minifig-scale version of the iconic vehicle. Here is the official description: The Tumbler Batmobile from the Dark Knight trilogy of Batman movies, is one of the most iconic, battle-ready vehicles in cinema history. It has an opening roof, which provides access to the driver and passenger seats and control panel. There are 2 stud-shooters fitted to the front of the vehicle. There’s even somewhere to store the Batarang. Two minifigures are included: Batman, with a Batarang, grappling gun, and alternative ‘nightmare’ head, and the Scarecrow, with a stud-shooter and toxic fear gas canister. When the battle action is over for the day, the Tumbler Batmobile looks awesome on display. The vehicle measures over 2.5 in. (7 cm) high, 7.5 in. (19 cm) long and 4.5 in. (12 cm) wide. The set comes with 422 pieces and the price is $39.99. The release date is October 1st, and you can already pre-order it at the LEGO Batman section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The first set should appeal to collectors who missed out on the original Collector Edition Tumbler, and the second set will be great for those who prefer minifig-scale vehicles. It’s interesting to see that while in the past, LEGO was very much against re-releasing sets, now they are doing it regularly. I’m sure they watch their numbers carefully to see if this approach works. For currently available sets with the Caped Crusader, visit the LEGO Batman section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the idea of re-releasing older sets? And what do you think of the upcoming Batmobile Tumblers? Are you planning to get either of them? Do you have other versions of the Tumbler? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

Lego really needs to make more tile pieces to use on the skins of their vehicles. Time to leave the studded surfaces behind and be more open to making huge changes that make sense rather than small irritating changes that involve minifig colors.

I liked the 76023 UCS Tumbler, and I think it still looks good by today’s (rather high) standards, despite it being released 7 years ago. So I’m not sure a remake was needed now. 76023 was already quite accurate, as evidenced by how few exterior differences there are between it and the new Tumbler. Of those changes, the rear tractor wheels on 76240 look too large, or at least too wide, and the tread is wrong. The front panels are quite flat as well, which may contribute to the rear wheels appearing too wide. Hopefully more changes were made internally to strengthen the model, improving the design used in 76023.
The minifig-scale Tumbler looks reasonable for its size, although I don’t like the Scarecrow minifig: he just looks like a guy with glasses and a large mustache. I think he should’ve had a special headpiece with Dr. Crane’s head beneath, similar to Batman with his cowl. That aside, I like the vehicle itself and may actually get this set, since I can’t afford the UCS one.
BTW, admin, the prices in the article are inaccurate: 76239 is $40, not $60, and 76240 is $230, not $400 – at least in the US.

The price on this site is Australian Dollars, I believe usually called AUD. Similar things if you see things in Canadian Dollars. Yes they call them Dollars. Why do “we” in the US get to own the Dollar-$ign?

Anyway yes I agree that the new Tumbler is pretty similar. I have the original one, not built, so probably won’t get this one. The small one seems pretty nice and as a more common one might be available on holiday sales for about 20% off of the price, whatever it is in your country-of-choice.

BTW another “fun” thing about this site is that it will often list NEW things up for sale on the Lego site, but they are not for sale in North America yet, because it’s still “yesterday” here when I get the mail.

I like the minifig version, although I feel the front is a little too messy. But it looks fun.

I also read that the Burton Batmobile would be back in stock, but maybe that’s only true for Europe.

The most sophisticated looking Batman set remains the Batwing. It has some incredible lines and curves. The second best is the Batmobile. The Tumbler feels broken up somehow. I don’t like this one, and I didn’t like the original either.

I put the minifig size Tumbler on my wishlist. It’s not on top, but if it goes on sale, or if there double vip points, I will probably get it. It seems fun.

I want all three of the dinos! Or well, I guess I will have to get nine to build all of them at once. Haha! Maybe add the to Jurassic World? Have the brick built dinos fight the molded ones! 😀 😀

Maybe this was posted in the wrong section, but at least Batman has a life-size T-Rex model in his Batcave.
