LEGO has released some beautifully colorful and festive sets celebrating Chinese New Year. They are popular with collectors as the sets contain unique elements, colors, minifigures, and printed parts. The 2025 LEGO Chinese New Year Sets will be available in January of next year, but they are already listed at the Online LEGO Shop. So let’s take a look!
The #40813 LEGO Chinese New Year Lucky Cat is based on a popular good-luck decor piece that’s said to bring prosperity and fortune into the home. It has cute smiling eyes, whiskers, blushing cheeks, paw pads, and tail. You can choose to decorate the tummy panel with either the gold coin sticker or the written wish for good fortune sticker. The paw has a pendulum waving action to replicate the beckoning movement of traditional Lucky Cat figurines. Comes with 280 pieces. Price: $19.99. Will be available starting January 1st at the seasonal items section of the Online LEGO Shop.
The #80116 LEGO Chinese New Year Trotting Lantern is a really interesting set with some wonderful details. First of all, it features a light-brick that’s activated by pressing down on the rotating central column. A choice of two alternative silhouette windows is included to create different lighting effects. The top of the lantern is removable for easy access to the top tier (also removable), which folds out to reveal three festive scenes featuring a buildable food stall, a decorations stall, and a shadow theater. The set also includes five minifigures; 2 adults, 2 children, and a character in a Year of the Snake costume. Comes with 1,295 pieces. Price: $129.99. Will be available starting January 1st at the seasonal items section of the Online LEGO Shop.
The #80117 LEGO Chinese New Year Good Fortune model showcases iconic objects that symbolize a future filled with love, good health, prosperity, and joy: a beautiful fan decorated with two magpies (a reminder that good things come in pairs!) flying above a branch of spring blossoms, a vase of fortune red fruit, persimmon fruit, golden ingots, and a calligraphy pen with a scroll showing Chinese text meaning ’spring’. The set also features two design options for the fan (instructions included) and the other items can be removed from the base so builders can create their own unique, festive home decor. Comes with 1,021 pieces. Price: $89.99. Will be available starting January 1st at the seasonal items section of the Online LEGO Shop.
My favorite of the three is definitely the lantern, although the fan and other items also have some beautiful details. While we’re waiting for the new sets, you can also take a look at some of the earlier LEGO Chinese New Year sets at the Online LEGO Shop.
