Let’s talk about the 2014 LEGO Legends of Chima sets today. Some of you may have seen them already, but we haven’t discussed them here as of yet, and they are actually quite interesting; introducing the mysterious Legend Beasts we have all been waiting for, and also more animal tribes. So let’s check them out and talk them over (all images from Brickset). 🙂
➡ 2014 LEGO LEGENDS OF CHIMA LEGEND BEASTS: There are five Legend Beast sets in the 2014 wave: #70123 LEGO Legends of Chima Lion Legend Beast, #70124 LEGO Legends of Chima Eagle Legend Beast, #70125 LEGO Legends of Chima Gorilla Legend Beast, #70126 Crocodile Legend Beast, and #70127 LEGO Legends of Chima Wolf Legend Beast.
Many LEGO Chima fans originally thought that the Legend Beasts will be moulded characters (similar to the dinos, dragons and other large animals LEGO released previously). This was mainly based on how the Legend Beasts looked in the TV show; more like cartoon animals than LEGO figures. In fact their characters in the show appear the least LEGO-ish. So it came as a surprise that the Legend Beast are in fact brick-built.
The Chima Legend Beast being brick-built creatures means several things. First of all they will have to be assembled (obviously), which also means they will fall apart easier. I find this interesting because my impression from watching the Legends of Chima TV show is that it was intended for very young kids. Even younger than the audience of Ninjago. For young kids chunkier moulded characters would have been more appropriate and more playable, I would say.
For older kids, teens and adults the Chima Legends Beasts have a lot to offer; the sets are full of interesting parts, nice colors, and advanced building techniques. They also contain the new, smaller ball-joints which are going to offer a lot of interesting possibilities. The decorated parts are also nice, but unfortunately they are stickers.
All in all the LEGO Legends of Chima Legend Beasts look incredible and I can’t wait to get them. Building animals from LEGO is not an easy task, and here LEGO designers did an excellent job giving us not just great sets but also learning opportunities for interesting techniques. I especially like the Lion Legend Beast and the Wolf Legend Beast. At the same time I’m not sure how younger kids will respond to them; will they be able to appreciate the building challenges the sets offer? I guess time will tell…
➡ 2014 LEGO LEGENDS OF CHIMA REGULAR SETS: Besides the Legends Beasts sets, there are also seven regular LEGO Chima sets coming: #70128 LEGO Legends of Chima Braptor’s Wing Sriker, #70129 LEGO Legends of Chima Lavertus’ Twin Blade, #70130 LEGO Legends of Chima Sparratus’ Spider Stalker, #70131 LEGO Legends of Chima Robon’s Rock Flinger, and #70132 LEGO Legends of Chima Scorm’s Scorpion Stinger.
There are also two other sets we don’t have pictures for as of yet: #70133 LEGO Legends of Chima Spinlyn’s Cavern and #70134 LEGO Legends of Chima Lavertus’ Outland Base.
Some of the most interesting aspects of the 2014 LEGO Legends of Chima sets are of course the new minifigures; Braptor the bat, Scorm and Scutter the scorpions, and Sparratus the spider. I’m thinking that Spinlyn is most likely a spider also. And of course there are the rhinos too! I really like the bat and the rhinos. The bat especially is just too cute for words
Amongst the vehicles I particularly like the rhinos’ massive Rock Flinger, and the Scorpion Stinger also looks excellent. The Twin Blade flyer of Levertus also seems to offer an interesting building opportunity.
➡ 2014 LEGO LEGENDS OF CHIMA SPEEDORZ: Of course there is a new wave of Speedorz sets as well: #70136 LEGO Chima Speedorz Banana Bash, #70137 LEGO Speedorz Bat Strike, #70138 LEGO Speedorz Sky Launcher, and #70140 LEGO Speedorz Stinger Duel.
I’m not into Speedorz myself, but they are fun for little kids. Also these smaller sets are a great way to get the new animals if you don’t want to get the larger ones. There is a bat, a spider and a scorpion in the Speedorz sets! 😀
And while we are waiting for the 2014 LEGO Legends of Chima sets to arrive you can also check out the currently available LEGO Legends of Chima sets and Speedorz at the Online LEGO Shop.
So what do you think of the 2014 LEGO Legends of Chima sets? How do you like the Legend Beasts? And what about the new minifigures, sets and Speedorz? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Amazing. These sets look far better than previous Chima sets, and dare I say it, even better than some of the new Ninjago sets. I can’t wait for these to hit stores. I will be waiting with my wallet open for 2014.
If you look closely at the package of the stinger duel speedorz set, you can see Lavertus in a black outfit and under it, it says Shadowind! Lavertus is Shadowind! It is finally revealed! 😀
Uh, we all know that. Since like, two months ago.
Well excuuuuuse me…
How can lavertus be shadow wind when he was with laval and lavertus was on the battlefeild?
Even without spoilers from the toys, as soon as they mentioned him in the show it was easily predictable that he would turn out to be the mysterious masked Speedorz champ.
Of course, earlier this year I already bought some other sets, mostly older ones, as stand-ins for legend beasts, not knowing that Lego would make official ones: 7872, 30185, 20015, 5868, 31004, and 4884. Plus I got the Monster Fighters and minifig series bat creatures to be honorary Chima bat tribe, but there’s going to be actual ones now.
When you look at Scroms Scorpian Stinger the crocs are now good! 🙂 But that’s what I think lol.
“But unfortunately, they are stickers.”
Unfortunately? I beg to differ. I’m sure many fans would want some of those olive green bows without any decals on them…
Hm… good point.
Definitely going to be getting rogons rock flinger, it looks awesome!!! But no bears yet?! Their my favourite tribe 🙁
I can’t wait for season 2! I’m not sure why people think Chima is worse than NinjaGo. The characters in Chima are a lot more interesting than the characters from NinjaGo. NinjaGo was a great series and had some great action sequences, but I always felt that it was a rip-off of Ninja Turtles. The characters and the story of Chima have a lot more depth, and the villains are more relatable. Garmadon didn’t become reformed until the end of season 3 and always seemed to really like being evil. With Cragger you could see the conflict he was going through and just how unsure he was of his actions. Both these series were good, and NinjaGo season 4 looks awesome, but I just found Chima to be the better story.
hah! the legend beasts look so dumb! I wanted a full molded animal:( dangit.
I was thinking that some kids would have preferred that…
Do not judge a book by its cover
The face of the Gorilla Legend Beast resembles that of a cheaply made mylar balloon, of the sorts you find at a supermarket checkout. Don’t you find?
Also, my name is not Lorc, my keys are sticking.
All i see from these sets is an effort to keep the theme running. There are one or two that would be worth getting but the rest are just not cool
TLG is really trying to stamp on the Chima. Probably because they spent so much money on marketing (Chima Speedorz roadshow, toy fairs, etc.) and they’re trying very hard to make their efforts bear fruit as much as they can.
why did you show the lion legend beast twice? oh well! I like that lion… wait! what am I saying! oh well I’ll say it!!!!!!!! some of the Chima sets are cool. 😯 even though I’m a huge Ninjago (and Kai) fan, Chima sets (not the TV show) in my opinion are cool. so there is something cool about this theme I guess. 😳
Simple reason for the duplicate; there are five Legend Beasts, but to make the page even I needed six pictures. 😉
Is rogon in the rhino set you shown?
Oh its rogon i thought its robon
I can’t wait to see the season 2 episodes of Chima.Do you?
Of course, not that i am a big fan its because i am lego collector and chima is already one of my collecting targets
The only reason that I would want the Legend Beasts to be molded figures would be to put them in a zoo. But I like the brick-built figures much more. My favorite is the Gorilla!
I like the scorpion stinger and crager and lavals armor.i used to have the weapon crager is using on chima online
I think there was some mass misinterpretation of the Chima show. Despite the clichéd themes and some boring characters there was some real political depth and meaning lost out on younger children.
This is why, I think, the sets are made for teenagers. There’s too much to look at for anybody below 11. This is by no means a bad thing – in fact it gives me hope for the future of this theme as it rivals Ninjago’s complexity. Ninjago will die soon, sadly, but I believe Chima will mature and develop into a worthy heir.
I dont think ninjago will die for a very long time, chima would go first before ninjago because there is a gripping storyline behind it, chima just doesnt grip, it seems to be bland and very basic
Actually 2014 is probably Ninjago’s last year and Chima is staying at least staying till 2015. ( if you haven’t heard im Rattle Shake from Skylanders SWAP Force. I used to be Crawley awesomeness).
ninjago is close to be going down soon and chima is going good right now so if new eps of chima is getting better and bedder.
I thought their will be bears
I got Scorn’s scorpion stinger and Sparratus spider striker for christmas!!!
overlord1113, I’m jealous! I bet that the bear and beaver minifigures will make an appearance in the summer 2014 wave. By the way, I like Chima more than Ninjago.
They came out on Saturday at smyths.
Admin, do you know when these sets will come out in the US?
Pia, they are already available in the UK and some select places in the USA, so they should be videly available soon.
