After less than a year the LEGO Lone Ranger sets are now officially retired. It is sad to see this theme go out of production so fast, but it has to do with the failure of the movie itself, not the LEGO sets. In fact the LEGO Lone Ranger theme was the first Western theme for over 10 years, and gave us some very nice sets and minifigures. ๐
The LEGO Lone Ranger theme is not just a movie tie-in but a very nice assortment of sets to set up any Western LEGO diorama. I hope LEGO fans will look at it that way and not dismiss LEGO Lone Ranger as a failed theme because of a bad movie.
The #79106 LEGO Lone Ranger Cavalry Builder is a great way to build up your cavalry, the #79107 LEGO Lone Ranger Comanche Camp includes a teepee and a canoe, the #79108 LEGO Lone Ranger Stagecoach Escape contains the nicest LEGO stagecoach ever, the #79109 LEGO Lone Ranger Colby City Showdown gives you plenty of elements for building a Western town, the #79110 LEGO Lone Ranger Silver Mine Shootout comes with a huge assortment of earth-colored pieces, and the #79111 Constitution Train Chase is one of the greatest looking LEGO trains, and also includes a whole circle of train-tracks for a very reasonable price!
The LEGO Lone Ranger sets are no longer available at the Online LEGO shop, however you should still be able to find them at LEGO retailers as well as the Amazon LEGO Store. If you have been eyeing LEGO Lone Ranger for the sets themselves or for parts and minifigures, I would suggest you pick them up as soon as possible as prices will rise significantly once the they are no longer available on store shelves. You can see the listings on Amazon here – stock is limited: LEGO Lone Ranger Sets on Amazon
What do you think? How did you like the LEGO Lone Ranger theme? Are you sad to see it go so soon? Did you pick up any of them, or are you planning to? Feel free to share in the comment section below! ๐

My four year old son loves the stage coach and train set so I consider the sets a success in my eyes but for Lego with license fees and having to design them with a movie in mind kinda limits what could have been done with the sets. If Lego would have just created a Western style series of sets then it probably would have been more profitable for the company.
Well, I personally thought the movie was the best movie of 2013, it was funny, exciting, fun, it had action, and it was a movie for the whole family to enjoy. Yes, maybe it wasn’t the old Ranger, but it was a nice new twist to the character. The whole train chase scene gave me goosebumps from when the theme started until the very end. The same thing happened with John Carter, Disney went all out with a very cool movie and it flopped at the box office. With Carter I thought it was more the name they chose, a title like Princess of Mars or warlord of Mars could have been more attractive to the public, like on the original comics, even Deja Thoris would have been better.
As far as TLR sets… awesome!!! I was only able to pick up the Silver mine, and I started building it last night, it is a very cool intricate build, lot’s of rock formations and small pieces, I got halfway done at 12:30 a.m…. I really hope I can find the train and the stagecoach at a 50% discount soon… I’m gonna hit a Wal Mart 30 minutes away this weekend, where a month ago they had the train as well as a Toy Story train, I hope they are still there at a deep discount, because as I’ve noticed tehre are not many LEGO shoppers in that small city.
I think the issue with Western movies is that they just don’t have that many fans any more. I don’t know anyone (LEGO fan or otherwise) under 20 who is into Western. I liked Cowboys and Aliens and The Lone Ranger wasn’t bad either, but both of them flopped. For LEGO releasing a theme that doesn’t resonate with younger generations as a movie tie-in was actually not a bad idea. This way they could test the market with the most focus on it and also give older fans something to be happy about.
BTW, I have an article ready for tomorrow that I think is really interesting. I won’t spoil it for you, but one point in it is that adult LEGO fans make up only 5% of LEGO’s sales. Yes, we make a lot of noise online (so it looks like our numbers are bigger than it is) demanding Western, and other classic themes, and LEGO will do the best to accommodate us with some large exclusive sets, but the fact remains that their consumer base is still mostly children – and I think that’s a good thing. ๐
I kinda like western, and I’m under 20. Also, though there weren’t many buildings, the Lego Movie has some western-themed sets (i.e. Creative Ambush, Getaway Glider).
And I think I saw Cowboys and Aliens. Wasn’t Harrison Ford in it?
Of me and my brothers, we have only one of the sets, the Calvary Builder set, and my youngest brother has that. I was last to see the sets when they came out, and was left with Comanche Camp to get, but I didn’t like it enough to get it (I was focused on SW).
And on the topic of articles, is there a minimum age limit to contribute?
As far as contributing articles, no there is no minimum age limit. What is required though is good writing skills and thoughful/helpful articles, while still being yourself. You are writing to tens of thousands of readers and subscribers of all age groups. Our youngest contributors are not even teens yet, but they have the AWESOME factor. If you are interested to write just let me know. ๐
Yeah, a very old Harrison Ford was in the Cowboys and Aliens movie. He still have that wicked smile though. ๐
Well… I have good writing skills. The article I had in mind was a description of the summer SW sets, but the pics are preliminary images I found on Google so I’d have to learn how to link things ๐ . But maybe that should wait a month, so there’s more info (I already have price/figs) from the NY Toy Fair?
Anyways, I do have an Awesome factor, as I take after Darth Maul (If you don’t know, that’s from Lego SW The Empire Strikes Out) Still… ๐ ๐
That’s a good topic. As far as images, yeah, it is probably best to wait a bit. I like to have good pictures. I know that both the BrickShow guys and Ace from FBTB are going to the NY Toy Fair, so there should be good pictures by the end of this week. Of course I know who Darth Maul is! I have been a lifelong Star Wars fan! ๐
Oh good. I only recently got interested in SW (mid-2012), but Maul is one of my top 3 SW characters. ๐
As for the Toy Fair, I hope there will be good pictures for the Star Wars, as no one has paid much attention to it so far ๐ ; and I hope there are Hobbit pics ๐
Yeah, I hope so too both about SW and The Hobbit. Ace from FBTB is a huge SW fan, so if they are displayed I’m sure he will cover them. I’m not sure if any Hobbit sets will be displayed as they aren’t supposed to be out until towards the end of the year, but we shall see…
I think there are a few under 20 western fans (I like western, and would have gotten several LR sets if I had got the chance), but for those who just like western, the tan fig color isn’t so great, and as far as the movie, that flopped. Given the TLM western style sets LEGO must think there is some interest in western. Do you know how well those are doing?
The LEGO Movie is so new, it would be hard to know which sets within the theme sells the best. Maybe in a couple of months I could ask my contact at LEGO for some figures. They are not a good representation of LEGO Western though in the sense that The LEGO Movie sets are quite wacky. However the fact that the CUUSOO Western project made it to 10,000 votes seems to indicate that there are at least 10,000 LEGO Western fans. Still, LEGO didn’t approve it, so their market research may be indicating that it is not a good theme to re-introduce.
I agree with you micho, I thought it was a great movie, I mean sure, it probably wasn’t exactly like the old lone ranger but I thought people always where complaining about how movies are always the same. (then again, people always find the littlest things to complain about and make it bigger than it should be.) as far as the sets go, AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! (gee I’m tired of being serious like in the first part of that comment. ๐ ) I have the stagecoach and the train, and they are awesome! oh, just something random but I actually rode in a stagecoach before! ๐
You rode on a stagecoach? I’m jealous!
yes! it was AWESOME!
I didn’t think The Lone Ranger was that much of a good film, and certainly not the best film of the year. As far as the year’s best film, have you seen World War Z?
I am very disappointed about TLR retiring, they were my favorite product theme in years. I have the stagecoach and the silver mine, the latter being my favorite set ever.
Perhaps there will be an equably good theme in the future?
I thought the TLR movie was great. My problem was the person that played Lone ranger wasn’t very strong in that role. Johnny Depp stole the show. The other thing what LEGO could have done, is put the LONE RANGER in the LEGO MOVIE .
That’s a brilliant idea! They could have sold a lot more sets. Perhaps it was a logistic issue though. It takes years to develop a movie, and The Lone Ranger was delayed so many times and even shelved for a while, that it would have been tough to bring the two movies together.
PLUS TLR is Disney and TLM is Warner Bros.
Johnny Depp stole the show in Pirates of the Caribbean, as well. I believe the LR team had thought that out well in advance in pre-production.
I thought the Lone Ranger sets were pretty neat and well designed , but they didn’t draw much attention. It was an o.k. movie and I think the LEGO sets would have gone off better if the movie was better and more younger children friendly.
Laura, that’s very true. I actually hope that young kids weren’t watching the movie. It had some really dreadful scenes that I didn’t like even as an adult. But I get scared easily. ๐
I really didn’t like the movie a bit, and I actually walked out almost at the halfway point. I am a teen, but I get scared really easily with that sort of thing. Thankfully my dad took me to Ender’s Game and that made up for it! =D
If a movie doesn’t work for you that’s the best thing to do. Otherwise it can haunt you for weeks! It is not worth it.
Well, it did haunt me until about 4:00PM when I finally got some sleep! =P I don’t even do well with scary STORIES! *shivers*
Me neither… ๐
For anyone in the US, the stores “Tuesday Morning” are currently selling the LR Silver Mine set at $40 – not a bad deal if you missed the $35 sale at Walmart. It’s a great set, cool figs and very good parts pack.
how do you guys find these Wal-Mart deals? I go to Wal-Mart all the time. ๐ฅ
It depends on the WM too. The new Super WM we have here hardly ever have any LEGO sale, but the old WM (now closed) had killer sales. The two were only a couple of miles from each other when both of them operated at the same time. What LEGO sets they carried and what was on sale was totally differerent. ๐
my Wal-Mart isn’t a super Wal-Mart its just a regular Wal-Mart. but its a new one so I guess there won’t be any awesome deals.
I don’t mean to advertise other websites but if you search for “LEGO investing forum” on Google you’ll find several places that list all the good ongoing LEGO deals. Of course you have to be quick as these sales don’t last. Now, depending on where you live you may not be able to find any sales at all, just because there is nothing to clearance given how popular LEGO is.
There is a good website that talks about local deals called BricksOnTheDollar. Chris updates the site daily talking about Target, TRU, Wal-Mart and other local store deals… he also has a YouTube channel and BrickLink store. I’m subscribed to his feed and it seems like most of the deals come up at Target. I haven’t heard him mention Wal-Mart as often. For LEGO store and Amazon deals you guys can use the links in the right-hand side-bar here at TBB. They link directly to their sales pages. ๐
Yes, Target does have good sales, but my dad won’t take my brothers and I there because of some cyber-hack-robbery thingy (I don’t know how its named). ๐
As for Walmart, that’s where my family gets most of our Lego, because it’s close and the nearest Lego Store is over an hour away. But I live in New Jersey, and there’s almost never a sale at Walmarts. Though in October 2013 I got a SW set for $3 off. ๐
Yeah, I have heard about that Target security breach! Something like 100 million people’s credit card information and personal details were stolen during the holidays. But you can still shop there for cash.
I really liked these sets, but oh well.
It is really too bad to see these sets leaving store shelves so soon. I only got the train, but I think that it is the best LEGO train ever! As for the movie, it wasn’t my favorite movie, but I thought that the train scene at the end was awesome!! My Wal-mart has sales every so often, and the other day they had the Lone Ranger Train for 49.00 and Colby City Showdown for 35.00.
Carbo, I agree about the train, it is really well done, and the fact that you get a full circle of tracks is awesome. Funny, I was just thinking of you this morning, like I haven’t seen you around for a while. ๐
Oh no! :O I need to get the Stage Coach whatever-the-officail-name-is set soon! I didn’t like the movie, but that set is really neat, in my opinion! ๐
Hey, where’d that first image come from, the one with the train and the outlaws. Was that a poster?
I think I got that from LEGO’s Facebook Page a long time ago. ๐
Do you happen to have a bigger version? I’d love a copy.
Let me check. I’m pretty sure I did have one, but usually once I resise them to what I need I delete the large version. But I will check for you.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like I have the larger version anymore. I looked through all my files. ๐
