The long-awaited summer sets for The LEGO Movie are now starting to trickle in at various LEGO retailers, and will also be officially released next month. One of our most favorite LEGO reviewers JANGBRiCKS got all three of The LEGO Movie summers sets, and have already done a full review on each of them, so let’s take a look! 🙂
➡ #70814 THE LEGO MOVIE EMMET’S CONSTRUC-O-MECH: Construction vehicles are awesome. Mechs are awesome. So what could be better than construction vehicles and mech’s combined? There are a lot of fun details in this set, so the video-review below will really help to see all the features. Also, here is the official description for your convenience: Get ready and prepare for the ultimate battle with evil Lord Business. Join creative forces with Master Builder Emmet to make this massive Mech. Open up the cockpit and place Emmet in the driver’s seat. Knock over anything that gets in your way with the swinging wrecking balls. Grab a Skeletron in the Mech’s excavator bucket or rotate the roller to iron out the opposition. But hurry before Lord Business glues the whole world together. Includes 3 minifigures with accessories: Emmet and 2 Skeletrons, plus an Angry Kitty figure. 708 pieces. Price: $59.99
➡ #70815 LEGO MOVIE SUPER SECRET POLICE DROPSHIP: This is the largest vehicle for the Robo Police in The LEGO Movie line, and is capable of carrying quite an army! If I were into army-building, I would definitely get several of these. In my opinion it is on par with LEGO Star Wars dropships! Check out the details in the video-review below, and also here is the official description for your convenience: Oh No! Lord Business’ Robo Police have invaded Cloud Cuckoo Land in their high-tech Dropship and are in hot pursuit of Emmet, Batman, Green Ninja and Johnny Thunder! With a pair of Robo SWATs at the controls in the dual cockpit, fire up the rocket boosters for lift-off. Once airborne, turn the rear control to rotate the boosters and surge forward in fly mode. Fire the stud blasters and target the heroes with the rotating front cannons and rooftop rifle. Open the sliding side panels to access the weapon rack and extend the zip line to lower the Robo SWATs to the ground. Make a smooth landing and then try to capture Emmet and co in the Dropship’s removable prison. Includes 8 minifigures with weapons and accessories: Emmet, Batman, Green Ninja, Johnny Thunder and 4 Robo SWATs. 853 pieces. Price: $79.99
➡ #70816 BENNY’S SPACESHIP, SPACESHIP, SPACESHIP!: This set has been causing such a flurry of excitement in the LEGO community there is hardly any words for it besides SPACESHIP! and AWESOME! When you watch the video-review below you will see that the set lives up to the expectation and hype in every detail. Also here is the official description for your convenience: Go intergalactic with The LEGO Movie Benny’s Spaceship, spaceship, SPACESHIP! with detachable wing flyers plus Robo Police interceptor. Benny may have spent too much time in space with a lack of oxygen, but this wacky character is also a Master Builder. Help him construct the Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! of his dreams then help the heroes to evade the Robo Police interceptor. Includes 4 minifigures with accessories: Benny, Astro-Kitty, Wyldstyle and Emmet (in robot disguise). 939 pieces. Price: $99.99
Benny’s Spaceship is surely a must for any LEGO Classic Space fan, or any fan of The LEGO Movie. I have already been hearing people discussing getting several of this set to build even more spaceships – expect a new wave of fans for LEGO Classic Space and a lot more awesome LEGO Classic Space creations hitting LEGO forums and galleries! The construction mech and police dropship are also very solid sets. In general, The LEGO Movie product-line has been incredibly fun and creative. The summer sets will be officially available next month, and if you don’t have them already, you can check out the currently available sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

SPACESHIP SPACESHIP SPACESHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 That set looks cool! 😀
Yeah, I built it last night. It is incredibly fun! Now I’m working on modifying some parts of it. But it is my current most favorite LEGO set. 😛
What?! You all ready have it?! 😮 My favorite of the summer TLM sets is the Constructo-mech, but I can’t get it (I’m saving for Hurricane Heist) 🙁
And my current favorite set is the Republic Gunship, which I now have and I’m up to bag 6 already!! 😀 (My birthday was thursday)
The only LEGO set that has taken me over a day to build was… the death star 😛 It took me 2 days (20 hours building time)
None of my sets have taken me over a day to build except the ones where I space building them out over a few days (like the Gunship). 😛
YOU HAVE IT?? Lucky! 😀
Yeah, stayed up until 2 AM last night building it. 😛
Hm, I have a question for you. Does the set come w/ any of these pieces, in this color?http://brickset.com/parts/6004990
The moment I started watching the review I pulled up LDD and started building. 🙂
Yes, there are at least a few I can remember from building it. Definitely a couple at the front of the small spaceships attached at the wings. According to the part-count there are 5 in the set in light-bluish gray.
Are you sure that the ones on the mini ships aren’t these? https://brickset.com/parts/4654580
In the cockpit, there are two trans. 1×1 round plates. Are those on one of the 5 of those plates? 😕
Oh, yeah, you are right the ones in the small ships are the 2x2s. Sorry about that. I just looked though the instructions as I couldn’t remember where they went. So one is in the cockpit, like you mentioned, and the other four are in the little black fighter jet. They are used for attaching the wings sideways. Hope this helps some. 😉
Ah, yes, thank you! 🙂 I haven’t built the black ship yet, but I’ll do it soon.
I am going to get this set today at TRU! I can’t wait !
I am going to get this today at TRU! I can’t wait!
Sorry, i posted the same comment two times…
The sets are cool but I’m trying to stick with my town / city theme. I just bought the icecream truck so I can have an icecream truck. I also want to get the Flying Flusher so I can have the truck and bathroom build. I still want to get Rescue Reinforcements, pretty much for the Blacktron Fan and Fabu-fan torsos which I have not been able to find on Bricklink. Admin, you have bricklink superpowers, are you able to find them? $70 is a lot for 2 torosos or for the minfigures themselves.
Kim, the rescue reinforcement minifigs are not yet parted out on BL. You can find the two minifis here: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?M=tlm042 and https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?M=tlm041. I actually recommend getting the minifigs as a whole instead of just the torsos because they also have sweet hair-pieces, and both of them have dual heads with braces! These are the only minifigures ever with braces so they are very unique.
Right now both minifigs are in the $10-$12 range, and you may not want to spend that much. I think prices will come down to probably around $7-$8, but I wouldn’t expect lower than that as they are both highly desirable by old-timers. When the torsos will get listed I expect that the price will be in that same range too. Yes, with unique minifigs it is often worth to just get the whole minifigure instead of the parts as the parts can add up being the same or more as the whole figure. Then either put back the unvanted parts on BL and recoup some of your money, or just keep them for other projects. 😉
Definitely get the Flying Flusher.:)
I agree, $70 is a bit much for Rescue Reinforcements, but you could probably get the whole set for your city scape. Apparently, it’s possible to build the fire mech into a fire truck, and you could try to make the helicopter into and actual windmill. That way you can add a windmill and fire truck to your collection. Of course, you can also sell the micromanager and robot minifigs to get some money back. Just wait until it goes on sale somewhere. 😉
It may be worth it then to get Rescue Reinforcements then. I don’t tend to be very good at finding sales on Lego, especially when they go on clearance at Lego.com but I’ll definitely be on the look out for it. Can’t have enough firetrucks and the windmill would be cool. I didn’t realize they could be built as “normal” things because I didn’t see an accompanying picture like the other sets.
Kim, there are no official instructions for rebuilding the fire-mech into a fire-truck, but it is quite possible. See Jang’s video here: http://thebrickblogger.com/2014/03/the-lego-movie-fire-mech-alternate-model/
There is an article I wrote previously with a video from JANGBRiCKS where he shows off his alternate model for the fire-truck. See here: http://thebrickblogger.com/2014/03/the-lego-movie-fire-mech-alternate-model/
Ahh good to know. I’ll definitely check that out to see if I like the model he presents. The windmill copter does have some intriguing parts. Jury still out but I definitely want those minifgs!
Build windmill using copter! the blades on the copter is the spinning part of the windmill, then use the rest of the parts to build a small tower. 😉
Awesome! Thank you! Yeah, parting out special minigures can be pretty tricky. I’m still toying with the idea of parting out Bill and Mary from Idea Book 6000 or just buying them. Bill is not that expensive but Mary is tricker to get or more expensive because she either needs to be imported or she costs, I thought it was $20 but it might be a little less than that from a U.S. seller. I have a scan of the sticker sheet that their torso stickers came from so I’m checking the quality on that when printed on sticker paper before I make my final decision.
Kim, I do that sometimes too with stickers. Once I print whatever design I want coat it with a layer of clear nailpolish. It actually brightenes up the colors and of course also provide protection for the sticker. 😉
Oo great tip! Thanks!
I tend to part out almost all minifigs to ebay as generally I care about bricks far more (300+ knights is enough!) but totally agree from BL get the whole fig its usually the same as the torso/legs your after especially if a rare print.
I will definetly be getting this set. I will be sharing what i think of it with you and maybe even a reveiw!! and also i have to agree with you that jangbricks is AWSOME
I need an army of Bennys to man every position in the Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
I actually have thought of that too. I already got 3 more blue Classic Space guys to join Benny, but I think I’m going to get even more. 😛
