One of my favorite LEGO builders is Alex Jones (a.k.a. Orion Pax), well-known for his amazing LEGO creations and taking LEGO into the realm of true art. Alex also does commissioned work, and one of his most recent projects was a collection of 10 buildings from Springfield, hometown of The Simpsons. The diorama will be on display in a BRICK Works store in Taipei, Taiwan, beginning in July of this year, in case you happen to be that way. 🙂
I know that the LEGO Simpsons line is quite controversial. There are a lot of people who really dislike The Simpsons, and the fact that LEGO released #71005 The Simpsons House set as well as a series of minifigures. For others The Simpsons in LEGO form is a dream come true. Whichever camp you belong to, it can’t be denied that Springfield with it’s simply drawn buildings and bright colors just beg to be built out of LEGO. So that’s what Alex did. He shares on his flickr page that even though he is not a big Simpsons fan he really enjoyed working on this project. As you look through the pictures note all the details Alex was able to incorporate from the original buildings. You can also visit Alex’s flickr gallery and website for more of his LEGO creations.

Free cookie if anyone knows where the name Orion Pax came from.
From Transformers. Another name of Optimus Prime. Do I get the cookie? 😛
Yes, yes you do. 🙂
Those look cool. I’m not personally in to the Simpson’s line but I don’t have a vendetta against it either. I really enjoyed the Simpson’s Lego episode and probably would have liked the minifigures better had they looked like they did in the episode instead of being molded.
When I was reading this, I thought these were gonna be upcoming sets… why doesn’t he upload them to LEGO Ideas?
Not everyone wants to have their ideas made into actual LEGO sets. Also, with large detailed models it just doesn’t make sense as LEGO won’t be able to produce them in an affordable way. What some LEGO fans do is produce instructions for the sets they build and sell them or give them away free, so if somebody wants to copy their model they can.
I think I’m going to contact him and see if he sells/gives away LDD files for these…
To be honest, I don’t like Lego Simpsons, but, as I don’t watch or even care about the show, I have nothing against it. Some people will like it, others won’t. Many LEGO themes are like that.
I think the buildings are fantastically done, but some of them don’t match the picture very well (particularly the power plant). Although the church is great. 🙂
Oh, and this is the official Research Institute: http://brickset.com/article/11568/alatariel-reveals-and-reviews-her-official-research-institute-set
I saw that earlier and was doing to mention it but I didn’t. I think it looks great, a little disappointed they didn’t keep the same minifigure designs as I wish there were more female torso designs but I still think it looks great and I’m excited to get it.
I had the exact same thoughts; great little set, but I don’t like the minifigs – except for the newly printed one. I liked Alatariel’s original design for the minifigs. Anyway, it will be easy enough to change them up. 🙂
Oh, and the dino is great! 😀
And the chalk-board! 😀
Is the chalkboard the thing with the constellation sticker/print on it? (I think it’ll be a print)
My understanding is that the chalkboard is printed. 😉
Yeah, I wish they would make more female prints (and so do a lot of people, apparently) too. I can’t remember what the original project looked like, though. 😕
I also note a piece in two new colors: 1×1 round plate w/ hole in Light Grey and Brown. I’d really like to get that dinosaur, but my list grows too long. 🙁
I’m particulary sick of that blue print and that gray print for womens prints. They picked my least favorite ones XD
Agree on that… 🙁
Yeah, I don’t like the blue torso either. In fact, I don’t like that entire minifig. I’m okay w/ the astronomer person, actually. The lab worker I neither like nor dislike. 🙂
I believe the heads are old, though. (Maybe the glasses head is new.) I believe I have already picked up one or two of them on Pick-a-Brick in Copenhagen…
Amazingly accurate
(Especially the blocko store
I want these… make them lego 😛
I wish these were sets 😉 I would so get them all
I’m sure LEGO would be happy to make them if there would be people with piles of cash to buy them. 🙄
I would buy some 😛
However I’m saving my little birthday money to get either Sir Fangar’s sabre tooth walker or the X-1 Charger. (in episode 32 the X-1 charger is op and awesome)
I wondered about the build on the far right on ALex’s illustration, but it appears to be the lime tank from the power plant, Officer Quimby’s police car and Radioactive Man (or what was his name now?) and sidekick investigating some nuclear waste dumping, something like that…
Ah, Radioactive Man and Fallout Boy …
Go – release! 🙂
YES!!!MAKE MORE SETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guys do u know if its for sale
Or did you find someone who created springfield and wants to sell it
