There has been rumors of LEGO working on an Ultimate Collector Series Super Heroes set for some time that was going to be unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Every year LEGO has a significant presence at Comic-Con with presentations, giveaways and revelations of new sets. It is a huge event LEGO fans excitedly look forward to all year, and most LEGO news sites and forums cover extensively. 🙂
Interestingly, USA Today spilled the beans almost a week earlier and revealed official pictures of the #76023 UCS LEGO Batman Tumbler. Whether USA Today published the article accidentally or was it with the full cooperation of LEGO is not known. Up to this reveal LEGO did an excellent job keeping the set under covers with not a single leaked image. Anyhow, at this point all of that is history, so let’s talk about this beast! 😀
If you are a Batman fan you probably know already that this is not the first Tumbler LEGO ever released. In 2008 there was a really sweet version of the Tumbler in the #7888 The Tumbler: Joker’s Ice Cream Surprise set. And more recently a mini version of the Tumbler was released in the #30300 LEGO Super Heroes polybag. But as far as Ultimate Collector Series we only got the #7784 UCS LEGO Batmobile back in 2006, so yeah, the #76023 UCS LEGO Batman Tumbler is very exciting news for Batman fans!
The #76023 UCS LEGO Batman Tumbler is based on Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight movie trilogy, and is 15 inches (40 cm) long 9 inches (24 cm) wide and 5 inches (15 cm) high. It has a rugged and fully armored exterior with adjustable top wings and oversized rubber-tread racing-tires (the front wheels are a brand new design). The inside is also extensively detailed with various consoles and gadgets.
Although the #76023 UCS LEGO Batman Tumbler is larger than minifigure scale (as most Ultimate Collector Series sets), two exclusive minifigures are also included to excite collectors: Christian Bale’s Batman, and Heath Ledger’s Joker. LEGO did release several variations of the Joker before, however this is the first appearance of the villain based on Heath Ledger’s version. I’m pretty sure these are going to be very desirable minifigs that will demand high prices on the secondary market. 🙄
Besides the Tumbler and the minifigs, there is also a display-stand with details on the Tumbler and a place for the minifigs to stand, which is standard for UCS sets and enhances the displayability of the set. One thing though is that black LEGO sets are huge dust-collectors (well, all LEGO sets are, but dust really shows up on black), so if you plan on displaying the Tumbler, you really need to find a covered display option like a clear plastic box, or shelf with glass doors.
The #76023 UCS LEGO Batman Tumbler includes 1,869 pieces and the price is going to be as follows: US $199.99 – CA $229.99 – DE 199.99€ – UK £159.99 – DK 1699.00 DKK (Euro pricing varies by country). This is actually a surprisingly low price for a licensed UCS set with the price per piece in US dollars just a bit over 10 cents. But it is a huge and expensive set, so it is nice for LEGO to keep the price as low as possible. The LEGO Batman Tumbler will be available exclusively at official LEGO stores and at the Online LEGO Shop in September, with early access to LEGO VIP members in August 18th. Admin, why are there two posts in one day?
Just a glitch. 😉
Is that why I can’t get to the SW post below this one?
Probably. I took it off as soon as I noticed the glitch.
Awesome! I think this is a great addition to the Ultimate Collector Series!
Love it, if I had enough money I’d get it. 🙂 I really want a Batman figure from the movies. The Joker’s hair is nice, too.
So, admin, two posts today? You forgot this set: http://brickset.com/sets/76025-1/Green-Lantern-vs-Sinestro 😉
Awesome!
Not a big Batman fan, but that set looks awesome. Also, thanks for the tip about dust and black bricks–just bought the Tower of Orthanc–looks nice and shiny now, so I’ll be sure to keep it well-cleaned. 😀
Ryan, yeah, black needs quite a bit of care. The Tower of Orthanc is a beautiful set! Keep it shiny! 🙂
Admin if you want a website for ninjago and chima… there is one called watchcartoononline.com… however there are many ads on it.
Russell, yes, I’m aware of that. But thank you. 😉
hey admin! is this gonna be a limited set?
It’s an exclusive, so the availability is somewhat limited – you know; you will probably not find it at Wal-Mart, but the Online LEGO Shop, LEGO stores, Amazon and TRU should be carrying it.
