2015 LEGO sets – German Toy Fair report

As we have discussed previously, January/February of every year is when the various large international Toy Fairs happen; first in London, then in Germany, then in New York. This is when LEGO themes and sets for the new year get revealed. At the London toy fair pictures and videos cannot be taken, but it is still an important event because we get a list of the new sets and prices. Read here: 2015 LEGO Sets โ€“ London Toy Fair Report

LEGO at the German Toy Fair 2015

The German Toy Fair took place this past week, and it is the first event where pictures and videos are allowed to be taken. Please note that not all 2015 sets and themes get revealed at this time, so for the full list of what’s coming this year I would suggest that you check the 2015 LEGO Sets – London Toy Fair Report. Also, some sets still have only prototypes and the minifigs are sometimes either absent or unfinished, but we can take a good look at most of the new sets. Images are from Atamaii.TV’s flickr page and from the Brickset database. So let’s dive in! ๐Ÿ™‚

โžก 2015 LEGO NINJAGO SETS: As we have discussed in the previous report, Ninjago is getting another wave of very exciting sets. Seven new sets are going to be released this summer, including an updated version of the LEGO Ninjago Destiny’s Bounty, and some beautiful dragons (see below). Also, there will be a series of new spinners that are operated by a rip-cord and can fly! Also, don’t forget to check out the freshly released first wave of 2015 LEGO Ninjago sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก 2015 LEGO CITY SETS: As we have discussed previously, LEGO City is getting two sub-themes later this year, one is space related, and the other is about deep sea exploration. The deep sea exploration sets look great. Also, while some people haven’t been favorable towards the somewhat juniorized space sets, I think they look good both in size and playability. The other highly anticipated set was the #60097 LEGO City Square, which includes 14 minifigures, a coffee kiosk, a LEGO store with a Pick-A-Brick Wall and delivery van, garage with a truck, and an orange/black trolley with a stop. It looks good, although I hope we will get better close-up pictures soon as it is hard to make out the details.

โžก 2015 LEGO CREATOR SETS: In the previous 2015 LEGO Sets – London Toy Fair report, we mentioned the #31038 LEGO Creator Changing Seasons set. This sounded pretty interesting from the description with different color leaf pieces to change the seasons. Now that we can see pictures, I have to say that I was expecting something nicer, although there are probably some parts of this set we are not seeing. If you take a closer look you will notice that the house is split in the middle, which seems to indicate some play features. Another LEGO Creator set that was displayed is the #31039 LEGO Creator Blue Power Jet. It looks very nice.

arrow: 2015 LEGO FRIENDS SETS: The sub-theme of LEGO Friends this year is pop star on the road. As you can see, the color-scheme is mostly black and dark-pink. The #41101 LEGO Friends Heartlake Grand Hotel looks super grand! The #41106 LEGO Friends Pop Star Tour Bus also looks nice, although I’m wondering why LEGO went in such a controversial direction with this wave. LEGO Friends has already been criticized for being too much representing the lifestyle of the rich and famous with malls, beauty-salons, Jacuzzis, yachts, private jets and pony-rides. Although I’m a fan of LEGO Friends, and in general I support the effort to involve girls in creative building, I thought the animal clinic, school, jungle rescue, and light-house sets were more realistic and fun that all this glamour and paparazzi of the rock star lifestyle. But what do I know? ๐Ÿ˜•

โžก 2015 LEGO ELVES SETS: I was really looking forward to seeing the #41078 LEGO Elves Skyraโ€™s Mysterious Sky Castle as I really like the first wave of LEGO Elves that will be released shortly, but I have to say I’m disappointed with the castle. I like some aspects of the set; like the different color sections for the four keys, and of course those pretty fence pieces, and the Pegasus, but I don’t like how they have done the castle itself – especially the tower roofs. But this is just my opinion. Let me know what you think…

โžก 2015 LEGO MIXELS SETS: LEGO Mixels is continuing with two other waves. Series 5 include brown/gold, blue/medium-blue, and yellow/red characters, and Series 6 includes purple/lavender, yellow/gray, and green/lime-green characters. It is interesting to note that these characters look bigger than the ones we got in previous series. Am I right? But whatever the size they are always fun. You can check out the currently available LEGO Mixels sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

โžก 2015 LEGO MINECRAFT SETS: As we have discussed previously, there will be a second wave of the minifigure-scale LEGO Minecraft sets, with four new releases: #21119 LEGO Minecraft Dungeon, #21120 LEGO Minecraft Snow Hideout, #31121 LEGO Minecraft Desert Outpost, and the #31122 LEGO Minecraft Nether Fortress. The new sets will be released in June. Below you canย get an overview of them, along withย some of the minifigures. And you can also check out the first wave of minifigure-scale LEGO Minecraft sets at theย Online LEGO Shop.

โžก 2015 LEGO TECHNIC SETS: Interestingly, everyone who has been to the toy-fair mentioned how cool the new LEGO Technic sets are. LEGO Technic is of course excellent, but it is rarely pointed out as one of the most exciting themes. In the video below you can see two of the upcoming sets, the #42042 LEGO Technic Crawler Crane and the #42043 LEGO Technic Mercedes Benz Arocs. They do look good!

โžก 2015 LEGO ARCHITECTURE SETS: The #21023 LEGO Architecture Flatiron Building and the #21024 LEGO Architecture Louvre were a nice and pleasant surprise. Both of them are excellent additions to the LEGO Architecture collection. You can check out the currently available LEGO Architecture sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

#21024 LEGO Architecture

Please note that the upcoming LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Legends of Chima, LEGO Jurassic World sets were not revealed, however you can read about them at the 2015 LEGO Sets – London Toy Fair Report. I also didn’t add the LEGO Scooby-Doo set as we just talked about those the other day and no new pictures were revealed at the toy fair. But even without those there is plenty to digest and think about for one day. What do you think? Which sets are you looking forward to the most? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! And in the meantime you can also check out the already released 2015 LEGO sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

YEEESSSS! These look great, especially the Ninjago ones! I might get a Minecraft Set or two, as I haven’t gotten any yet and me and by bro love the game (I have PC he and my 3 year old brother play it on the PS3). Also they have a load of cool new figs for it too shown in the spinny-wheel and a Blaze! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜›

  • BLProductions January 31, 2015, 11:31 AM

OK, here comes my essay on today’s post: ๐Ÿ˜‰
First, the summer Ninjago looks epic! I am 90% going to get the Morro Dragon (that depends on if I get the MechDragon), it looks like the best brick-built dragon ever in LEGO, at least in terms of scary/evil. ๐Ÿ˜€ The Bounty is also a huge improvement over the 2012 version. And the Airjitzu flyer things that you mention can be seen on Ronin REX (the 1st picture): it is the gold wheel with Kai in it. It looks odd, and I must say I like spinners more (yet I have none of those…). ๐Ÿ˜•
City looks good, though I think I will pass on those. Deep-sea could be a great sub theme if done right. The Creator seems good, that jet is pretty sleek, I like the dark blue.
The roof-tops to the Elves castle are held on by either Bearing plates and Friction pegs, or ball joints. I think I know where the Elves get their power… it’s in Loki’s staff, which Skyra is holding in the picture. ๐Ÿ˜‰
The Mixels certainly look bigger, I’m going to build some on LDD, and then compare. The yellow one is really cool, I hope the whole tribe is the same. ๐Ÿ™‚
Lastly, I want that Crawler Crane! That has to be the awesomest Technic crane ever! It resembles the 42006 Excavator from 2013, and is Power Functions, I note. The Mercedes Arocs looks like fun too, it has new pneumatic pumps as well. ๐Ÿ™‚
Also, LEGO Shop hasn’t fixed the Ultra Agents page… Drillex Diamond Job is still called “false.” They need to get their act together. ๐Ÿ˜•

    • admin January 31, 2015, 2:56 PM

I thought that may be a spinner! I just didn’t want to say it as I wasn’t sure. ๐Ÿ™„

Still waiting for Bionicle pictures…………………………this is taking too long. On a more upbeat note, the sets we actually can see look really nice. Ninjago looks good, the set in the first picture looked a little messy, but the dragon and the new Destiny’s Bounty look awesome.

  • Strider January 31, 2015, 1:04 PM

OMY GOSH…Never mind the darned waiting I found a youtube video with summer Bionicle sets..still taking it all in…just Google german toy fair lego bionicle, or something like that. The video starts by showing the January sets so don’t get scared off. Also, the video I saw was 13 minutes long, hopefully that helps you find it. (There was an editing problem so there is about ten minutes of blackness at the end…but whatever.) Ok, now I’m going to go watch all of it so I can publish this comment knowing it wasn’t fake…

It’s not fake. (Unless this guy is like the ultimate Lego customizer…but it’s not fake.)

  • Strider January 31, 2015, 1:18 PM

Ok. There are some new types of limbs on the Skull Warriors. They are grey and long, with joints only at either end. The Mask Maker is just like the other Protectors, but he has some interesting armor on his shoulders, and he is gold and blue. His mask and armor is gold, he has some trans blue limbs. Here is the interesting part. In the Skull Scorpion set, there is a gold Pohatu mask, that gets trans-green near the top, the same color as the Scorpions limbs. A similar version of Lewa’s mask is included in the set with the four armed Skull warrior. (The way it’s geared looks like all four arms can move.) Maybe the masks get infected? The skull warriors are very bony, and the one with the bow looks like it has a little too much color going on, blue, orange, black, grey. They don’t look as finished as the Toa, but for bad guys they are pretty awesome. There is a big Skull warrior, which I am assuming comes in the Mask Maker set. He looks great, with grey and trans-orange colors. There is also a new torso, the top is covered by the chest plate, (same as the Toa’s, I believe they all have printing on them,) but on the second half you can see bones jutting out from it on the sides. Sorry for the cluttered comment…I’m so pumped.

Is this the video you are referring to? http://youtu.be/RBi0Hx3RGoM

      • Strider February 1, 2015, 9:22 AM

Yes it was. Seems legit right?

        • admin February 1, 2015, 10:04 AM

Yes, the folks from Atamaii.TV personally participate in the German Toy Fair every year. So yes, their videos are very legit.

  • Eifiki Robertson January 31, 2015, 1:36 PM

    Hey folks,
Oo I think that there is a big difference in it . The toys as they come are amazing and there are those hamburs which were amazing there is a big attention toward them and the idea of them is really good. (given the fact that we are in 2015 already). The SJ and http://youtu.be/-VyBVAbFu3s confirmed the idea.
    Cheers.

    • admin January 31, 2015, 3:15 PM

Hm… what does this has to do with LEGO? ๐Ÿ˜•

  • David Tennant Lover January 31, 2015, 3:00 PM

No Lego Marvel Spider-Man lego photos. Dang. ๐Ÿ™ But at least you were aloud to take photos!

  • Agatha January 31, 2015, 4:05 PM

I totally agree with everything you said about the Friends sets. I was so hoping that animals would have been the focus and not the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

  • gid617 February 2, 2015, 7:51 AM

Well, I don’t get the Arjitzus at all… nor am I a fan of the way they look… at all. It seems like the entire thing is changing with the figs being inside the bubble; I don’t see how they can be knocked out. Also, based on the Morro packaging there don’t seem to be cards any more… which is probably a good thing as if so I would feel like collecting all of them! This way I’ll probably only get one or two mainly for figs and to see what exactly they’re like.
I definitely am interested in seeing the official pictures though! But I do think the March wave looks better.

Also, after seeing the episodes, they were pretty good; especially Kai (who is certainly my favorite ninja) and personally I rather liked Skylor. I do think the season felt a bit rushed toward the end (last two episodes especially); there was a lot more that could have been fleshed out (pretty much the opposite of the mega-weapon season). Nor do I particularly like the way more and more gets tacked on to the backstory without much consistency (more and more elements, another realm – wasn’t the underworld enough?). It’s like adding on to a house and pretty soon all the rooms are at different levels, etc!
[Slight spoiler follows, consider yourself warned.]
The magic was a bit of a cop out, although it did resolve a lot since after discovering that the Anacondri really weren’t so bad (which I’ll say didn’t go with Pythor’s story at all!) it didn’t really seem fair that they had been banished, and after Garmadon’s story he really couldn’t stay either. The entire season was rather inconsistent with previous seasons, although it did include several nods to them (and I really liked where at one point Zane’s old sense of “humor,” saying funny things in his super serious voice, came back!).
Frankly I kind of wonder how long TLG is going to keep pumping the Ninjago dragon. I know last time it ended there was all kinds of reaction, but how long can it keep going without getting more and more repetitive? Plus the end of spinners – specifically character cards – for me was like ending Ninjago anyways – I still collect all the Kai figures (which is about the only LEGO thing I collect – other than that it’s isolated sets or only for pieces) but it bothers me having all the figs and no cards for half of them! ๐Ÿ˜› I’d rather it just end! haha

Well, that’s my Ninjago rant for the day, ๐Ÿ˜†

    • admin February 2, 2015, 11:34 AM

My guess is that they will continue the Ninjago episodes until the movie comes out in 2016. Since originally they weren’t planning to make Ninjago this long, some discrepancies are understandable, but all in all I think the episodes are still enjoyable.

As far as the spinners, have you seen how they are used? You can fly them both bubble up to fly in the air, and bubble down to use it more like a traditional spinner on a hard surface. I think they are going to be lots of fun. I will post a video in the upcoming days where you can see them in action! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • gid617 February 2, 2015, 1:41 PM

Hmm, that does sound pretty interesting. Do you know what the idea is – if its a game?
Still don’t think I’ll end up with nearly as many as I have spinners, but they may be better than I initially thought! ๐Ÿ™‚

        • admin February 2, 2015, 2:35 PM

I did watch a video about it, but the accent of the person who demonstrated the spinners was so strong, I couldn’t make out what the game supposed to be, besides crashing your flying spinners into each other.

I like the flying aspect of the spinners it’s fun. What I don’t like is how they look; not LEGO-ish at all. I’m not planning to get a whole lot of these either. Maybe one or two. I also much preferred the original spinners because they are not just fun, but also look like LEGO. And the cards were great. Here I like the flying aspect, but I think they could have spent more time on making the spinners look like LEGO…

          • gid617 February 2, 2015, 6:43 PM

Exactly my opinion about their looks! Neither the bubble, or the other piece look like LEGO at all. But I’m not complaining too much, since this way I’ll have more for Pirates!

            • admin February 2, 2015, 7:45 PM

Yeah, there are so many choices this year! I’m glad you like the Pirates! ๐Ÿ˜›

          • BLProductions February 2, 2015, 9:57 PM

Maybe they couldn’t make them look any more LEGO-ish, since after all it takes some effort to defy gravity (at least momentarily) and being big a blocky doesn’t exactly help the flight capabilities of an object.
However, I do like the spinners better, even though I don’t have any (none at all! I really would have liked to get the Kai ZX one). They were very customizable, which increases the Lego-ness and playability of them. And the airjitzu flyers probably have no cards because they are not customizable like the spinners were. I sense that LEGO is pushing towards to many specialized functioning (spring) elements, which are large and don’t have very many different applications, and I’m not sure that it’s for the best. ๐Ÿ˜•

            • admin February 2, 2015, 10:19 PM

Well summarized. I have the exact same concern about all these specialized pieces.

  • gid617 February 2, 2015, 7:57 AM

By the way, Brickset has pictures of all the City deep sea sets, which are fairly good but nothing spectacular, unsurprisingly.

    • admin February 2, 2015, 11:35 AM

I would have loved these sets when I was a kid, as I liked playing with LEGO in the bathtub! ๐Ÿ˜›

      • kai February 2, 2015, 7:15 PM

I guess just the top part flies and the rest is a handle right? Also, I guess no one knows what price they will be yet eh? As for buying them it depends on the figures and the prices, I will most likely get one or two though!

        • admin February 2, 2015, 7:46 PM

Yes, that propeller thingy with the clear dome in the middle is the actual spinner. I haven’t seen any prices for them yet, but my guess would be around $10-$15?

          • BLProductions February 2, 2015, 10:09 PM

So when you activate the spinner, the gold piece stays put while the bubble launches, and it’s kept airborne from its spinning? Neat and weird at the same time. ๐Ÿ˜
I hope that there is something else coming with each flyer set, as I don’t doubt a $10-15 price tag on them.

            • admin February 2, 2015, 10:24 PM

The gold propeller looking thing with the bubble in the middle (with the minifigs inside) is what launches and flies. They fly up pretty fast when you launch them with the ripcord, then land on the ground and continue spinning (which makes it somewhat similar to the old spinners) until it eventually stops. Pretty fun. In the spinner-only sets there is a fairly elaborate brick-built handle, plus the spinner, the bubble, a minifigs and some weapons. That easily adds up to $10-$15.
