The #71016 LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart is now available for LEGO VIP members at the Online LEGO Shop! This has been a highly anticipated set, and the second in the LEGO The Simpsons line. The set will be available for general release on May 1st, but if you are a LEGO VIP member I highly recommend you get it right away, because I’m pretty sure the first batch will sell out very quickly. Also, as I predicted previously, the release of the LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart generated new interest in the #71006 LEGO The Simpsons House, which is now shown as out of stock. There is no need to panic, I’m sure LEGO will make more, but paying attention to patterns like this is a good idea in general. 🙂
We have discussed the super exciting #71016 LEGO The Simpsons Kwik E-Mart previously, and you can find the full press-release here: LEGO Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart & New Minifigs. Below I will include again the official description for your convenience, in case you don’t want to go back to the previous post to read it. Also, since the press-release the designer-video also became available and I include that as well (just scroll down).
Welcome to The Kwik-E-Mart—your one-stop shop for convenience foods at inconvenient prices! This highly detailed and iconic LEGO version of The Simpsons store is packed with more rich, colorful details than a Mr. Burns birthday cake has candles! Walk under the huge Kwik-E-Mart sign and join Homer, Marge and Bart as they browse the aisles filled with beauty products, diapers, dog food, pastries, fruits, vegetables and more—including Krusty-O’s and Chef Lonelyheart’s Soup for One. Then head over to the refrigerated cases where you’ll find Buzz Cola, chocolate milk, various other drinks and snacks… and frozen Jasper! There’s also a Buzz Cola soda fountain, juice dispensers, coffee machine, arcade games, ATM and stacks of Powersauce boxes.
At the counter, Apu is ready to tempt you with a variety of printed magazines, comic books, cards, tofu hot dogs, freshly expired donuts and his ever-popular hallucination-inducing Squishees. At the back, there’s a storage closet complete with rat and an exit. On the roof you’ll discover Apu’s secret vegetable garden, while outside this amazing model features bright-yellow walls, 2 phone booths, a stack of purple crates, and a dumpster area with ‘El Barto’ graffiti, opening door and an iconic blue dumpster that also opens. You can also remove the roof and open out the rear walls for easy access.
This set also includes Snake (a.k.a. Jailbird), who loves nothing more than stealing cars and robbing the Kwik-E-Mart—but this time Chief Wiggum is hot on his tail in his police car. Capture this bandit and return peace to the town of Springfield and the amazing Kwik-E-Mart. This fantastic set includes 6 minifigures with assorted accessory elements: Homer Simpson, Bart Simpson, Marge Simpson, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Chief Wiggum and Snake (a.k.a. Jailbird). 2179 pieces. Price: $199.99. See full description and more photos at the LEGO The Simpsons section of the Online LEGO Shop.
The #71016 LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart is such a winner! I predict that this set is going to be a huge seller, and not just for Simpsons fans, but those who would like to add a sweet little convenience store to their LEGO City layout. And those new printed pieces are excellent! If you are a LEGO VIP member you can get the set right now under the LEGO The Simpsons section of the Online LEGO Shop.
So what do you think about this set? Is the LEGO Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart a day-one purchase for you? This is a day one purchase! No doubt about it!
I’m an adult so it’s difficult for me to understand the attraction of cartoon themes.
It’s probably nice but not anything I’d ever be interested in.
Yet, you have no difficulty understanding the attraction of a children’s building toy?
Nah, but seriously, it’s just a medium, and a lot of adults find an appeal in it, for a multitude of reasons.
Yeah. Ironic, huh?
But, apart from that, Legos are exceeding well conceived, designed and executed. They’re capable of an enormous amount of variety. I’d say they actually inspire creativity. That puts them in a very elite class of objects. Nothing wrong with that. I’d say it’s downright appealing. …even if children are the target market.
I just picked this up today as a surprise for my husband. We are in our early 30s and have grown up watching the show. To this day it is one of his favorites. I bought him the Simpsons House last year for our anniversary and it was the first lego set I helped (I use the word loosely as I am sure I delayed the entire process) put together.
