That looks like a great model! Its seems like a bit of a juxtaposition to me to put that tiny, shady looking little laundromat right next to the big fancy bank, but whatever. I like the picture of that minifig putting cash in the washing machine, though! That’s so funny.
In big cities combinations like this can easily happen. In fact, I used to live right next to a bank that looked pretty grand like the bank in this set, with little mom and pop stores next to it. This was in Chicago. So yeah, quite similar setup. Especially if you put the Detective’s Office next to it. 🙂
Instant buy! Looks fantastic! They should have called the set Money Laundering. ;D
LOL! Agree on that name! 😀
I like the pink bank robber on the roof…
It’s always the quiet ones…
LOL!
Will VIP’s get early access?
No, LEGO specifically stated in the press-release package I received that there will be no early access to VIPs.
OMG must get!!!!! I will have holiday money by that time!!!! I’m so excited!! It’ll be perfect to break my Lego fast that I’m doing for the rest of the year as I try to catch up with my old stuff and my 3 newest, the Detective’s Office, Ferris Wheel, and the Winter Toy Shop!!!!
You got good taste to some of the nicest LEGO sets! 😀
Great news for those waiting to complete a square block. in their modular town, as this makes a 4th corner modular. Very nice design once again and interesting parts usage on the cornice of the roof using the pulleys for added texture.
Yes, the pulleys are very interesting.
I love the use of the gold bars in grey for the stone work. very nice set!
I also thought that was a brilliant usage of the gold bars! 😀
OMG! The modulars keep getting better and better! How do they do that?
LOVE the ” laundered” money, the chandelier, the elaborate windows & skylight, whatever that bas relief figure is over the door, the apartment or whatever that’s over the laundromat. I love these buildings that incorporate premises with very different architecture! I’m interested by the bench and that new tree form. The espresso machine is a hoot. Can’t wait to see the vault door.
Thank you Lego Group for the 2X VIP points. They — plus what I’ve accumulated through the year — will put a very nice dent in my son’s annual Christmas in January prezzie. But the truth is, even tho he’ll have the fun of the build, I look forward to buying it and giving it just as much every year! This year’s entry does NOT disappoint!
Yeah, the Double VIP Points is a great time to get extra points for sets like these! 😀
Is that the Maltese Falcon sitting on the filing cabinet?
Good point… Might be some hidden MacGuffins lurking around the building…
Oh! Just noticed that the glass barriers for the bank tellers are door panels flipped on their side. Clever technique there.
Yep, and there are many other very interesting little details like that. That’s one of the reasons why the Modulars are so awesome; all the fun building techniques and clever usage of parts. 😀
Wow this is an amazing set! I can’t wait to build it. It’s nice to have your expectations exceeded. I really didn’t expect this design.
You know, I was thinking about designing either a bank or a laundry mat of my own when I had some time. So glad I don’t have to since this would far and away exceed my capabilities.
The only thing bad about this set is that it’s released in January
Yeah, that’s true. Previously they were usually available in December – perfect for Christmas.
I am so Buying this set immediately!!!
Another modular building that looks to raise the bar again. While I love the Detective’s Office, I think the Parisian Restaurant is still my top favorite when it came to building enjoyment. This one, just from all the little details and micro builds, looks like it might give the Parisian Restaurant a challenge for that position. The story of this one will fit very well alongside the Detective’s Office.
I’m loving all the little details and nods. I see what looks to be a Maltese Falcon, a bottle of laundry detergent (looks like Tide), a news posting that references Scooby Doo, the safe looks to borrow elements from the coin bank they sale (with a functioning lock), the gray “gold” bars on the front, the double doors, the rest of the building decor on the outside, the corner clock, and more. The printed windows are a nice touch. Also, good use for the Wolverine claws. Any idea as to what the elements on the roof’s edging are?
If I had any concerns or questions, it would be that it looks like the chandelier is attached to the roof piece instead of from the side. That would make it a challenge to lay the roof piece down when removing it from the building. Secondly, the wall that separates the laundromat from the bank doesn’t go all the way up. My guess is to make it easier to fit fingers/hands in there. I wonder if the rest of the wall is attached to the underside of the second floor or if it is missing. If it is attached to the second floor, that too might make it more of a challenge to set it down.
Needless to say, I am definitely ordering this when it first becomes available. Here’s hoping I can snag one before they go on back order. The Detective’s Office I remember ordering the morning it became available and it went on back order and delayed shipping very quickly within just a few hours.
I just ordered this on New Years Eve day. So far I have six modular and I hope it’s a nice addition to my city. It does look a bit smaller then the other corner building though. The Palace Cinema and The Grand Emporium tower over the smaller modulars like The Pet Shop and Detective Office. As a corner building I don’t think this will go with the older, larger modulars well. It will have to go with the newer ones like the Detective Office and French Restaurant.
Nice! I’m sure you will enjoy the set. It is just a tad smaller than the Pet Shop. I have mine next to the Town Hall and it looks fine.
