The #76051 LEGO Marvel Super Hero Airport Battle is a set I have been eagerly waiting for every since seeing the first pictures. Why? Because of that Giant Ant Man! While I normally write summary reviews for new wave of sets, I think this one needs it’s very own review, as I feel that the giant minifigure is significant in LEGO’s history. 🙂
LEGO has been releasing large characters in a number of themes like LEGO Castle, LEGO Bionicle, LEGO Legends, of Chima, LEGO Star Wars, and more. And while they are great, they have a very different look than normal LEGO minifigures, even when the large character also got a standard minifig version.
The Giant Ant Man in the #76051 LEGO Super Hero Airport Battle is the first time LEGO released a large version of a character that still looks like a minifigure. And what an excellent large figure this is! It is sturdily built and durable, it has fully posable legs and arms, and the head can turn as well – basically it has the same articulation as a regular minifigure, with some extra articulation in the arms.
I really hope that LEGO is going to continue with more scaled up minifigures like this in many other themes. I was planning to make some of my own, based on the Giant Ant Man design, but unfortunately the head is a brand new piece. It only comes in this one set, it is printed with Ant Man’s face, and no other similar piece is available at this time. I would love to have the same piece in yellow with the classic LEGO smiley face so we can make generic large minifigures! 😀
Giant Ant Man is not the only cool thing in the #76051 LEGO Marvel Super Hero Airport Battle. There is also a very sleek looking Quinjet. This is the third version of the Quinjet released by LEGO, and while it is the smallest, it has some very nice shaping when looking at it from the front, and directly from the back. From the side it doesn’t look as good with those little wheels and abruptly cut off back section, but other that that, it is a great looking Quinjet, with a particularly nice cockpit area and color-scheme.
The minifig selection is also excellent, with Captain America, Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, War Machine and Agent 13, plus an Ant-Man microfigure (a spare is included, so you really get two). Agent 13 is unique to this set, and Iron Man and Scarlet Witch comes with a unique variation. In the video-review below you can see more details about the set and the minifigures.
If you are interested to pick up this set and play with the new giant figure, the new Quinjet, or collect the minifigures, the #76051 LEGO Marvel Super Hero Airport Battle is available under the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes section of the Online LEGO Shop.
So what do you think? How do you the giant minifigure? Would you like to see more large characters like this? And what you think of the rest of the set and the minifigures? Is this a set you plan to get? Or do you already have it? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below! 😉

This shows I really haven’t been paying attention.
I’ve had my head down building some back log.
That large Ant-Man puts this set at the top of my list!
We definitely need some generic minifigure giant head pieces!
Could this be a test to see if a Stay-Puff marshmellow man is viable I wonder?
Oh! Interesting! I did hear rumors there may be more Ghostbusters sets, and you could very well be right! 😀
Giant Ant-man’s hands are perfect for holding bricks with holes for pins to slide through.
I love this set, I probably will buy soon, but I need to recuperate from bday spending. I hope LEGO does more of these especially with generic faces. Also Admin in about one hour my walking on LEGO challenge video will be up! We walk on them, speed step on them, jump on them (I fall and start bleeding), and walk on our hands and knees. lol PAAAIIIN!
And… I’m afraid to ask this… why are you torturing yourself? 🙄
Because it was my bday! lol, here is the link https://youtu.be/LNr3Z59vsfw
LOL! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun! And you even cleaned up! Good for ya! I did a glass walk and 50 foot firewalk in the past, but I think LEGO is even more painful than glass, although fire is still worse. 😀
Actually if it is coals and you walk normal, coal is terrible heat transferring that you won’t feel a thing. Where with LEGO and glass, well that is a different story…
You can actually burn your feet pretty bad on a firewalk. But it is always the people who are the most nervous about it. If you walk normally at an even pace, like you said, it is fine. I only burned my foot a little bit at the end, because a piece of coal stuck between my toes and I didn’t notice it until it started to sting.
Ow, ya when I fell backwards it actually cut my skin and I started to bleed, it still hasn’t healed and it bruised my hand at the same time.
Yeah, I saw that! It was a bad fall. Ouch! 🙁
In all honesty I just wanted to to this…..if you watch during the normal walking it looks like I don’t feel the pain so my friend even asked “Do you even feel it?”
And to think of all the skaters that made a career out of that…
The meta involved in Ant-Man sets is irresistible. First we got brick built giant Lego bricks to scale with a normal minifig Ant-Man, now we have a brick built Giant-Man and a microfig Ant-Man.
Oh, yes, good point about the giant bricks! Those were awesome too! 😀
And normal bricks, not part of the main build, included for comparison…
Yes! 😀
This looks super cool! You should all check out my blog at aninjagoblog.wordpress.com
I would suggest you post this in the Ninjago section as it has no relevance to this discussion. 😉
