A couple of days ago Warner Brothers released the latest trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive from Batman fans and LEGO fans alike. The film is scheduled for release on February 10th 2017, and so far this is the fourth trailer related to the movie (see links to previous trailers at the end of this post). In addition, a couple of more of the upcoming sets were also revealed, so there is a lot of excitement about those as well. So let’s talk about all this awesomeness. ๐
In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble โ LEGO Batman โ stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Jokerโs hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up. Watch below.
As you can see, this is going to be a hilarious film that both adults and kids can enjoy, and many people are already saying it might be the best – or at least one of the best – Batman movies ever made. It certainly looks like a good candidate! The animation, the voice actors, the story, the humor, and all those Batvehicles and Batcostumes are just perfect! Unfortunately there are still a few more months before we can see the movie, but in the meantime we can take a look at the LEGO sets upcoming LEGO sets.
There is going to be a whole collection of sets based on The LEGO Batman Movie, just like we have previously seen with The LEGO Movie. So far LEGO revealed pictures of six of the new sets. We have discussed some of them already, but for the sake of completeness, I’m going to list all of them here again, along with some of the newly announced sets.
โก #70900 LEGO BATMAN MOVIE – THE JOKER BALLOON ESCAPE: This is a small set with Batman and The Joker, who got an awesome balloon-operated contraption on his back. Batman wears the new yellow utility-belt, which many LEGO fans are looking forward to. Then there is a dangerous looking storage-tank with a timer, dynamite, some controls, and those sweet new macaroni-bricks to create the red pipes. I’m already very fond on this small set, and the price is excellent. 124 pieces. Price: $14.99
โก #70901 LEGO BATMAN MOVIE – MR. FREEZE ICE ATTACK: Help Batman defend the Gotham Energy Facility from Mr. Freeze’s Exosuit assault and save the security guard from the ice prison in The LEGO Batman Movie: Mr. Freeze Ice Attack set. The set features Mr. Freeze’s posable Exosuit, with room for a minifigure and a stud-shooting freeze gun, plus a detailed power plant build and an opening ice prison. Includes three minifigures: Batman, Mr. Freeze, and security guard. 201 pieces. Price: $19.99
โก #70905 LEGO BATMAN MOVIE – THE BATMOBILE: The set comes with Batman, Robin, Man-Bat, and the Kabuki Twins. I love Robin’s goggles attached to his hairpiece! The Batmobile itself is quite interesting with red highlights, and a new translucent-yellow windscreen that LEGO Classic Space fans will be very happy about. 581 pieces. Price: $59.99
โก #70906 LEGO BATMAN MOVIE – THE JOKER NOTORIOUS LOWRIDER: Here we get The Joker, Batgirl, and Harley Quinn. All three minifigures are amazingly detailed and include some new pieces. The lowrider itself is already causing a lot of excitement amongst LEGO fans for its radical look and colors. We definitely needed a lowrider in LEGO! 433 pieces. Price: $49.99
โก #70908 LEGO BATMAN MOVIE – THE SCUTTLER: You can see this awesome looking vehicle in the trailer above. Minifigures includes are Batman, Joker, Poison Ivy, Commissioner Gordon, Barbara Gordon, and Robin.776 pieces. Price: $79.99
โก #70909 LEGO BATMAN MOVIE – BATCAVE BREAK-IN: Defend against The Penguin’s Duckmobile invasion of the Batcave in The LEGO Batman Movie: Batcave Break-In set. The highly detailed Batcave features a rotating transformation chamber for Bruce Wayne to transform into Batman, rotating Batcomputer control center with multiscreen elements and elevating platform function, and a prison with an exploding escape wall function. The Batcave also has a rotating wardrobe with alternative Scu-Batsuit, Raging Batsuit, or the Bat-Pack Batsuit minifigure bodies for Batman. Dial up the conflict by using the Batboat’s spring-loaded missiles against the Duckmobile’s dual stud-shooters and flick-missiles. Includes four minifigures: Batman, The Penguin, Bruce Wayne, and Alfred Pennyworth. 1,045 pieces. Price: $99.99
โก #70912 LEGO BATMAN MOVIE – ARKHAM ASYLUM: Bust into Arkham Asylum with Batman and banish The Joker. This highly detailed LEGO Batman Movie set features the massive asylum model with many different areas – including Dr. Harleen Quinzel’s office, ward office, four cells, an X-ray security scanner, canteen, visitors room and laundry room – plus a separate five-story lookout tower, police car and loads of play-inspiring accessories. The first wave of The LEGO Batman Movie sets should be available in January. In the meantime you can also check out the regular LEGO DC Super Heroes sets at the Online LEGO Shop.

I am not even a batman fan…
… but I am going to watch this great movie.
By the way: I want that car of the joker (I love the parts!)
Yeah, based on the trailer we could expect an excellent movie, Batman fan or not. There are lots of great parts in these sets, so hopefully we will have a chance to review them soon! ๐
So awesome! Can’t wait! Really like the beast looking thing and the lowrider!
Yeah, that beast is one of my favorites too! ๐
Good god, there are a lot of big sets for this wave. There is a grand total of 2 sets in my price range.
There will be more sets to come, 15 in total in the January wave. Many we haven’t even seen yet. ๐
The movie looks like it will be hilarious, and the sets look pretty good so far. The level of detail on Arkham Asylum is great; I hope the interior rooms look as good as the exterior. I think the Mr. Freeze Ice Attack is the worst of the revealed sets, simply because it’s the least interesting. Brickset has names for a Riddler, a Clayface, and potentially a Killer Croc set, and a Penguin Limo (which sounds cool), and hopefully these are not like Mr. Freeze’s set.
Anyways, my favorites of the revealed sets are the Batmobile, the Scuttler, and the Batcave. The Batmobile has lots of good parts (and the new windscreen and bat-rudder part), and is definitely a new take on “Batmobile.” The Scuttler is part-bat, part-dog, and it looks awesome. I still don’t know what that light-grey brick beam does; it looks functional, but I see no function, unless the set transforms. Finally, the Batcave: the suit rack is my favorite part, but the rest does look slightly better than 76052. The Bat-boat and Penguin’s Duckmobile are quite neat as well.
Also: http://brickset.com/article/24413/even-more-city-2017-images City (excluding police) is looking fairly good in 2017. The Pizza Van could have looked better, though. One thing I’ve noticed is the lack of new 2017 pieces on any sets revealed except 10255, save a few, like the new wheel-covering on some City sets. I’m probably wrong, though; the SW, Ninjago, and NK sets will no doubt have a bunch of new parts on themโฆ. ๐
BTW, admin, 1 typo: the article says “Shuttler” instead of “Scuttler.” ๐
Good points, and agree with pretty much all your points. Interestingly, I got an update from my contact and LEGO and he gave me a list of the 15 Batman Movie sets that are coming in January. For some reason many of the set numbers don’t add up with what we have in the Brickset database. The point is that are still a good number of sets we don’t know about. We should definitely get more info by the end of the month though.
As far as the City sets, the Police ones are pretty much the same as before, but I do like some of the other sets. I think the Buggy and the Stunt Truck look pretty sweet. I agree about the Pizza Van. I don’t think the colors are right and the hood looks a bit weird. But it is a nice idea still. And with some modification I’m sure it could be made better. But why does it have a giant gold crystal inside? ๐
It is possible that they will be slowing down with new parts. They introduced a lot of very useful pieces in the past couple of years, and I’m sure they haven’t fully exploited the possibilities with those yet. LEGO likes to keep their parts-list nice and tight, so we may be just seeing recolors and such. I think it would make sense. Of course I could be wrong! ๐
15 sets isn’t surprising to me; the LEGO Movie theme had more, and multiple waves of sets as well. However I don’t see why your intel differs with Brickset’s. Someone has it wrong, but, as you say, we will know by the month’s end. Hopefully the Technic will be revealed before the 19th, though, so I don’t buy the Arctic Truck and then see something cooler for next year. ๐
I like the Buggy and the Stunt Truck as well, although most likely I will never get either. That’s not a giant gold crystal in the Pizza Vanโฆ those are giant French fries! Fried to a crisp golden-brown. I think. ๐
It would be nice if they cut down on new parts. I’ve actually seen a lot of 2016 pieces on 2017 sets, so you could be right about just recolors. However, I recently read that LEGO designers have many new part designs planned for production in future years, so there could be just as many new parts in 2017. My count so far is only 9, but 5 of those are just from the Assembly Square.
BTW, what is the code to that first smiley you just used? I don’t recognize that one.
The LEGO Movie had 13 sets in the first wave, then more in later waves, so yeah, this is about the same. My understanding is that there will be more to come. Probably some of the bigger sets will be released in the summer.
I thought those might be French fries, but I have never seen French fries in a pizza place (except maybe on the kids’ menu). Maybe they are bread sticks? ๐
Are you talking about the rolley eyed smiley? The code for that is : roll : (without the spaces). ๐
P.S.: Here is a list of smileys that should work on Wordpress sites: https://en.support.wordpress.com/emoji/
Ok, so it seems there will be more TLBM sets than TLM sets. Hopefully that means no important scenes from the movie are missed.
Bread sticks are as odd as French fries, I would think. Pizza is already bread (just with cheese and other things on it), so why would you sell more bread without toppings? I suppose the set description will confirm just what it is.
Yes, that’s the smiley. Did they just change them again? That one looked different a few weeks ago. Thanks for the list, now I can use this one: :/ in addition to my favorite ๐ . ๐
Every pizza place I have ever been to serves breadsticks. They are super yummy. Basically pizza dough sprinkled with cheese. They serve them at pizza places as an appetizer while you wait for your main meal. (Source: I love pizza!… and breadsticks!)
Yeah, it looks like the roll smiley may have been updated a bit. Previously it had rolly eyes and a regular smile, but now the smile is crooked. Good eyes! ๐
Hm, ok then. I haven’t been to a “pizza place” in many years (if I have ever been), so I wouldn’t know. Breadsticks seem like a good strategy for filling you up before the main meal arrivesโฆ at least that’s my experience with Olive Garden. ๐ I’m still waiting for the official set description to clarify what it is. What are the chances it’s just gold? ๐
Hm, the asylum might be really good for parts if the minifigures were worth selling.
I think those prisoners are going to sell very well! ๐
