The LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets are some of the best value money can buy, because each of them includes building instructions for at least three different alternate models. This increases both the play-value of the sets, as well as the number of interesting building techniques you can learn. To say it simply, LEGO Creator sets are very fun and very interactive. ๐
For this summer, we get five new LEGO Creator sets; one focuses on vehicles, one on space exploration, and the last three are houses. The houses are particularly interesting, because besides having their own alternate building instructions, they also have modular sections you can swap around (much like in the LEGO Minecraft line). LEGO calls this the “new-for-June-2017 LEGO Creator modular system”. In addition, the three sets can be combined to create a super large dream house. Below we will look at each of the five sets in more detail. ๐
โก #31066 LEGO CREATOR SPACE SHUTTLE EXPLORER: This set is similar to previously released space shuttle models in the LEGO City line, however because this is a LEGO Creator set, you can do a lot more with it. The main model is a very impressive space shuttle, and the two alternate models are a moon station and a space rover. If you would like to build a larger space station, you might even consider getting more than one set, as the models are compatible in style, scale, and color. Here is the official description: Carry out daring space missions with the Space Shuttle Explorer, featuring an authentic white, black and gray color scheme, large engines, opening payload bay with robotic arm, satellite with foldout wings and a minifigure cockpit with tinted canopy. This 3-in-1 LEGO Creator model rebuilds into a Moon Station or a Space Rover for further outerโspace adventures. Includes an astronaut minifigure with a removable jetpack. Space Shuttle Explorer measures over 3โ (9cm) high, 10โ (26cm) long and 7โ (19cm) wide. Moon Station measures over 2โ (6cm) high, 7โ (18cm) wide and 4โ (11cm) deep. Space Rover measures over 2โ (6cm) high, 5โ (13cm) long and 3โ (8cm) wide. 285 pieces. Price: $29.99 – BUY HERE
โก #31070 LEGO CREATOR TURBO TRACK RACER: While vehicles are common in the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 collection, they tend to be a bit generic in both part-selection and design, because the focus is on having three alternate builds. The Turbo Track Racer however brings the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 vehicles to a whole new level. The design and features are so well done, that it can easily fit in with the more advanced LEGO Creator Expert vehicles, as you will see in the video-review by JANGBRiCKS. The two alternate models are simpler, but also very good looking. This set is a true winner. Here is the official description: Climb into the cockpit of the powerful Turbo Track Racer, featuring a light-blue color scheme with a broad white racing stripe, white rear spoiler, black and white rims with low profile tires, automatic upswing doors and a detailed cockpit with roll cage, racing steering wheel, speedometer, moving gearshift, emergency brake lever, and flame-yellow and gray adjustable racing seats. Also features an opening rear hatch and hood, detailed engine with chrome colored grilles and moving parts, tinted windshield and detailed headlights, taillights, exhaust pipes and wing mirrors. This 3-in-1 LEGO Creator model rebuilds into a Forklift Truck or a Cool Blue Racer. Turbo Track Racer measures over 2โ (7cm) high, 8โ (22cm) long and 4โ (12cm) wide. Forklift Truck measures over 5โ (14cm) high, 8โ (22cm) long and 3โ (10cm) wide. Cool Blue Racer measures over 1โ (5cm) high, 9โ (23cm) long and 4โ (12cm) wide. 664 pieces. Price: $59.99 – BUY HERE
โก #31067 LEGO CREATOR MODULAR POOLSIDE HOLIDAY: This is the smallest of the three new LEGO Creator houses, but it still has a number of interesting features and options. First of all, there are three main models, and each of the models also have modules that can be swapped around for a different layout. Still, I would say that, by itself, this set is the least interesting of the three, however it does add some valuable elements to the combined model. Here is the official description: Enjoy a wealth of summer activities with the Poolside Holiday set, featuring a house with a red and tan color scheme, rooftop terrace with flowers and barbecue, and a garden area with trees, greenery, swimming pool and a table tennis table with rackets. Interior details include a guitar amplifier, flat-screen TV and a sofa. Mix and match the buildable modules to create a rooftop pool or a rooftop garden, and easily swap the window, door and other modular sections to customize the house. This 3โinโ1 LEGO Creator model can also be rebuilt to create a Skate Park Holiday or a Music Garage Holiday. Includes 2 minifigures: a girl and a boy. Poolside Holiday measures over 4โ (12cm) high, 7โ (20cm) wide and 5โ (13cm) deep. Skate Park Holiday measures over 5โ (13cm) high, 6โ (17cm) wide and 4โ (12cm) deep. Music Garage Holiday measures over 5โ (13cm) high, 5โ (13cm) wide and 4โ (12cm) deep. 356 pieces. Price: $29.99 – BUY HERE
โก #31068 LEGO CREATOR MODULAR MODERN HOME: This set includes 30 more pieces than the previous one for the same price. The building system is the same; three alternate models, and each of the models feature smaller sections that you can swap around. You can watch the video-review below to see all the features, and here is the official description: Build the bright and airy Modern Home, featuring a white, brown and pale-blue color scheme, large windows, solar skylight, upper-level bedroom and balcony with parasol, and a ground-level room with sofa and armchair. Mix and match the buildable modules to create a rooftop terrace, and easily swap the window, door and other modular sections to customize the house. This 3โinโ1 LEGO Creator model can also be rebuilt to create a Lakeside Home or a Garden Home. Includes 2 minifigures: a woman and a boy, plus a buildable dog figure. Modern Home measures over 6โ (16cm) high, 5โ (15cm) wide and 3โ (9cm) deep. Lakeside Home with jetty measures over 4โ (11cm) high, 6โ (16cm) wide and 7โ (19cm) deep. Garden Home measures over 5โ (14cm) high, 5โ (15cm) wide and 5โ (15cm) deep. 386 pieces. Price: $29.99 – BUY HERE
โก #31069 LEGO CREATOR MODULAR FAMILY VILLA: This is the largest of the three new LEGO Creator houses. Here you can really appreciate the alternate models, as well as the smaller modules that can be removed and swapped around. This system gives you infinitely more ways to customize the buildings without taking the whole set apart. Here is the official description: Enjoy urban adventures at the 3-level Family Villa, featuring a red-tiled roof, white facade with lots of windows and colorful details, plus a garden area with a basketball hoop, outdoor fireplace, mailbox, doghouse and a stairway that leads to a mid-level terrace with a sun lounger. Interior details include a bedroom and kitchen, tables and a sofa. Mix and match the buildable modules and easily swap the window, door and other modular sections to customize the house This 3โinโ1 LEGO Creator model can also be rebuilt to create a Golf Hotel or a Summer Villa with a swimming pool. Includes 3 minifigures: a man, woman and a boy, plus a buildable dog figure. Family Villa measures over 8โ (22cm) high, 14โ (36cm) wide and 5โ (14cm) deep. Golf Hotel measures over 9โ (24cm) high, 11โ (30cm) wide and 5โ (13cm) deep. Summer Villa measures over 5โ (13cm) high, 7โ (20cm) wide and 9โ (23cm) deep. 728 pieces. Price: $69.99 – BUY HERE
โก LEGO CREATOR COMBINED DREAM HOUSE: As I mentioned at the beginning, you can combine the #31067 LEGO Creator Modular Poolside Holiday, the #31068 LEGO Creator Modular Modern Home, and the #31069 LEGO Creator Modular Family Villa to create a dream house with endless play opportunities. To put together the combined model, you use the already built modules of the three sets, so it only takes a few minutes to do the whole reconfiguration. In the video-player below, you can see all five of the sets in more detail (including all of the alternate models), as well as the combined model for the LEGO Creator houses.
The #31066 LEGO Creator Space Shuttle Explorer and the #31070 LEGO Creator Turbo Track Racer are both very solid sets that are some of the best examples of the 3-in-1 LEGO Creator line. And the three LEGO Creator houses expands the 3-in-1 concept even further with the added modular system, plus they can be combined into a giant model with infinite possibilities. Sets like these are what make you really appreciate the continued innovation and ingenuity that happens at the LEGO design headquarters. You can find all the new sets under the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Hmm.. I might want to pick up the modern home, for the bricks, the build and the building techniques…
Creator sets are always an excellent choice. ๐
That’s true!
I really like the racer and the shuttle. The modular houses is an interesting idea, but they just don’t fit with my collection. I would like to see the modular setup in other sets too. It reminds me of Lego in the old days.
Yeah, having alternate builds is always appreciated as it gives less creative people an option to build more then one thing out of a set. The modular design have been showing up in other LEGO Creator sets as well, and also the LEGO Minecraft and LEGO Friends sets. It’s a great idea in my opinion. ๐
Do u actually review these sets or do you just look at the photos and describe them? How do these count as reviews?
Jerome, when a large wave of new sets come out we usually review them first by theme, and then discuss the most interesting ones individually in more detail. This way, those who are interested in a new set or theme can get a quick overview, and our contributors have more time to get some of the new sets and review them in greater depth.
It also depends on what our contributors are interested in. For example one of our regular contributors likes to analyze new sets based on the techniques used. I prefer to modify official sets so usually write about that, and other contributors write about interesting new parts and their potential use in custom builds. These are not overall reviews, but focusing on specific aspects of a set or theme.
When it comes to new sets, what we write about also depends on what our contributors are able to purchase based on their interest and resources. None of us are rich, so we can’t get every single set. We write about what we can get our hands on. We are all doing this in our free time for the love of the hobby. Talking about LEGO is not our day job (it would be awesome though!). ๐
By the way, anyone is welcome to contribute. We do have people who regularly write on all kinds of topics related to the hobby, and others contribute whenever they are inspired or have the time. Reviews are really not our focus. We do like to cover new sets at least as an overview, so our readers are aware of what’s available, but there are so many other websites that are doing general reviews already.
We also collaborate with other websites and reviewers like Brickset, The Brick Show, JANGBRiCKS, Sariel, and others, and share and/or link to their reviews. It’s really not possible for a single person, small group, or even a large team to cover everything. Except if you are Batman, because Batman is rich and awesome, and he can have it all and do it all. ๐
Well done ๐
